Microsoft Outlook will clean up your email by default
If you saw Microsoft’s Clutter feature and dreamed of a day when your email inbox was always under control, you’re about to get your wish. The folks in Redmond have revealed that Outlook (both on the web and in the Office 2016 Preview) will turn on Clutter by default for new and existing mailboxes in June. Once it’s activated, you’ll only have to see high-priority messages in your inbox until you’re ready to dive into a folder containing everything else.
This sounds like it could be annoying if you weren’t expecting a change, although there will be some measures to prevent this email cure from being worse than the disease. Clutter won’t turn on if you’ve tried the feature before and decided against it. Also, Microsoft is replacing Clutter’s inbox notifications with less frequent alerts (no more than one per day) that appear when new types of not-so-important messages show up. No, this probably isn’t going to save you from being looped into inane office banter, but it could make sure that you spend more time doing your job and less time wading through mail you’d rather ignore.

Xposed Framework module GravityBox now compatible with Android 5.1 Lollipop

Developer C3C076 has just recently announced on XDA that the popular Xposed Framework module GravityBox has added compatibility for Android 5.1 Lollipop. While there’s still no official Android 5.1 release for Xposed quite yet, users can download the unofficial 5.1 port and use it in conjunction with the newest version of GravityBox.
It should be noted that the newest version of the module is missing a few small features including the omission of some signal cluster tweaks and status bar coloring. Apparently adding in these features would require a major rework due to dual SIM support introduced in Android 5.1 Lollipop. The developer has also unlinked ringer/notification control volumes, which can no longer be controlled within the phone’s sound and notification settings – only within the expanded volume panel.
This new version isn’t guaranteed to work on non-Nexus/non-GPe devices, so issues will likely be present if you try to flash it on a device that has a skin. The developer also says that folks who flash this version should try to avoid using a soft reboot, as it will most likely cause apps to rebuild from scratch every time, which could take some time. 50% of T-Mobile’s customers said to be on Family Plans
According to T-Mobile, over 50% of its customers are on their Family Plans. It is said that these plans cover an average of 2.4 lines. The carrier is optimistic that it can add more users to its family plans over the coming months.
The information was given away by the CFO, Braxton Carter. The carrier has been popular for undercutting its contemporaries in the industry and also for its highly disruptive mobile data plans. Although the carrier lacks the coverage areas enjoyed by Verizon or AT&T, there’s no denying that T-Mobile has had a significant impact on the market.
Carter also reiterated that people on Family Plans stick around longer than single line subscribers, which is a valid point and good for the carrier in the overall scheme of things. But when we consider the fact that T-Mobile offers heavy discounts on data for these plans, the number of subscribers doesn’t matter all that much. This has been a rising concern for the investors as well given that the Average Revenues Per User or the ARPU goes down.

Prioritize your lockscreen with Next Lock Screen (Monday Makeover)
There is a plethora of apps out there that allow you to customize just about every single thing on your android smartphone without even rooting. That is why we have started the weekly series “Monday Makeover.” Each week we will take one of these customization apps and talk about setting it up, discuss the features of it, and show you how you can make your android device truly one of a kind. Last week we talked about APUS Launcher. This week we are taking a look at Next Lock Screen.
What is Next Lock Screen?
Next Lock Screen is a lock screen replacement that adds some cool features to your phone. Many people do not think of their lock screen as anything more than the screen you have to get past before you can do anything with your phone, but Next Lock Screen turns this idea on its head. You get your normal clock and notifications, but there are more features to this app. At the bottom of the lock screen, there is a row of apps that can be pulled up to view even more apps and quick settings. This feature allows you to open the apps you need right from your lock screen, and the apps that are displayed depending if you are at home, at work, or on the go.
Why should I use Next Lock Screen?
If you feel like something is missing from your lock screen or you want to squeeze out as much productivity as you can from your phone, you should check out Next Lock Screen. You can have your go to apps right on your lock screen which will keep you from having to search through your app drawer and finding it. Plus, you can see all of your upcoming calendar events in one place.
How do I use Next Lock Screen?
Next Lock Screen has a nice menu that appears when you first open the app that walks you through the basic setup for the lock screen itself. After finishing that, you will be brought to your new lock screen where you can take in all of the changes that have just happened. At the top, you will see your time and weather widget. Tapping on the weather part will bring up a three day forecast and some current weather information.
If you have any upcoming calendar events, they will be visible underneath the time. This is where you will see all of your notifications. At the bottom, you have quick access to apps and you can view more by swiping up from the bottom the lock screen.
At the top right of this app area, you can change your location between “At Home,” “At Work,” or “On the Go.” The apps shown will change depending on your location. You can tap and hold on an app to move it around the grid or remove it. If you want to add more apps or quick settings, you can tap the plus sign at the bottom right.
The “Settings” menu gives you some more customization options to make Next Lock Screen exactly what you want. You can change the wallpaper, enable or disable Next Lock Screen, and add a screen lock. I recommend setting your system screen lock to “None” because otherwise you will be taken to you phone’s stock lock screen after getting past Next Lock Screen. You can also change which notifications are shown on your lock screen. Finally, you can show music controls, change your weather units, customize your status bar, and hide apps to they never show on your lock screen.
Where do I get Next Lock Screen?
Next Lock Screen is available for free from the Google Play Store.
Next Lock Screen does a great job adding productivity to your lock screen. It is an app that anyone who wants more functionality should place at the top of their lists. For a free app that does not show any ads, Next Lock Screen is extremely polished and seems to get updated regularly. Have you used Next Lock Screen in the past or are you planning on using it? Tell us your thoughts about it in the comments! While you are down there, please leave some suggestions for apps you would like to see featured on a future Monday Makeover. Have a great week!

Microsoft wants to keep your online data secure while you’re using it
There are plenty of security measures to keep your online files safe, but they frequently diminish or disappear when you’re actually using those files. What if someone tries to swipe your data while you’re working on it? Microsoft thinks it can help. It just unveiled VC3 (Verifiable Confidential Cloud Computing), a system that keeps your info secure at virtually every step. Whenever you open content, it’s sent to a locked down device which limits access to you and you alone — theoretically, this prevents even insiders (such as coworkers, cloud providers or government spies) from intercepting your secrets.
It’s not clear how soon VC3 might reach services, and it’s mostly targeted at businesses. You might not get to use it when you’re dipping into Office 365 at home, unfortunately. However, it could help stem the tide of data breaches at hospitals, stores and other big organizations. You might not have to worry that your bank is exposing your personal details during an account update, even if it’s just for a brief moment.

What’s on your HDTV: ‘House of Wolves’, ‘Late Show’ finale
Summer doesn’t officially begin for another month, but most of our favorite TV shows are ready to go on vacation now. Shows wrapping up their seasons this week include The Following, The Flash, Battle Creek and a few others. Of course, following Mad Men’s finale last night is an even bigger, as David Letterman turns out the lights at The Late Show for the last time Wednesday night before Stephen Colbert takes over in September. Bungie is releasing a second Destiny expansion with House of Wolves, adding the Prison of Elders, Trials of Osiris and a few other wrinkles to its online shooter. Look after the break to check out each day’s highlights, including trailers and let us know what you think (or what we missed).
Netflix binge watchers watch out — the sci-fi drama Between debuts Thursday night, but instead of arriving all at once, you’ll have to wait a week for each new episode to appear. That’s to keep things in sync as the show airs on regular TV in Canada, depicting a town where a mysterious disease has killed off everyone over the age of 21. Finally, there’s a ton of new Blu-ray releases this week but it’s 80s classic (yeah we called it a classic) Ski School that’s caught our eye.

Russia is making its own smartphone platform, sort of
When Russia said it was reducing its dependence on Western technology, it wasn’t kidding around. Communications Minister Nikolai Nikiforov recently met with Finland’s Jolla to talk about developing an “independent” Russian mobile operating system based on Sailfish OS. He’s concerned that 95 percent of phones in the country use foreign software like Android or iOS, and wants to foster a domestic platform that both boosts the economy and is less susceptible to mass surveillance. Yes, Sailfish technically comes from another country, but its open source nature would allow for customized software where there shouldn’t be any secrets.
If all goes according to plan, outside operating systems would make up no more than 50 percent of the Russian mobile space within the next decade. It’s not clear how Nikiforov plans to get people flocking to this in-house OS, however. As competitors to Apple and Google can attest, simply having another platform isn’t enough — you have to convince buyers that it’s worth switching from what they already own. Russia may not have much trouble getting government workers to jump ship, but that doesn’t mean that everyday phone users will follow suit.

TWRP adds support for Qualcomm encryption on the OnePlus One

Owners of the OnePlus One will be happy to know that the latest build of TWRP now supports native Qualcomm encryption for the handset. In an announcement on Google+ earlier today, developer Ethan Yonker (Dees Troy) explained that Qualcomm encryption generally offers better performance than ‘stock’ Android encryption, making this a welcome addition to the custom recovery platform.
AOSP is apparently making the move towards supporting native Qualcomm encryption, likely because it supplies a significant increase in read-write speeds over AOSP’s software method. This means we’ll probably begin to see Google and other OEMs start using this type of encryption on future devices, since Qualcomm already supplies hardware to a huge amount of mobile device manufacturers.

The latest build of TWRP for the One supports the decrypting of CM11, CM12, CM12.1, as well as Oxygen OS. However, there are a few things you need to know before you can get your hands on all of the benefits. The developer explains:
If you didn’t encrypt using CM 12.0 nightly on or after 16th of January 2015, you probably aren’t getting the performance benefits of Qualcomm’s encryption. It also appears that the Oxygen OS team did not add support for Qualcomm encryption. If performance matters to you but you need to be encrypted, then I’d suggest sticking with CM.
