Verizon HTC One M7 getting Lollipop this Thursday

While the One M9 is the current hotness from HTC, the original One (m7) still remains a solid handset and is still enjoyed by many as a daily driver. The biggest downside for Verizon One M7 owners is the lack of Lollipop, something that Sprint and T-Mobile owners have had for a while now. The good news is that this is finally changing!
HTC’s Mo Versi took to Twitter today to announce that Verizon has approved the Lollipop update for the M7, and the OTA will begin pushing out this Thursday.
The update to Android 5.0 will include all the security enhancements of Lollipop as well as a number of visual tweaks including improved notifications and a redesigned recent apps panel. One of the biggest changes in vanilla Android is Material Design, and while the update will bring some of these aesthetic improvements, they will be much less noticeable due to HTC’s custom skin.
We’ll be sure to update this post as soon as the update goes live. Verizon M7 owners, now that Lollipop is finally here, do you plan on keeping your phone longer or are you preparing to update to a newer device in 2015?
Samsung’s Galaxy S6 Active might have passed through the FCC
We’ve seen ‘Active’ versions of Samsung’s Galaxy smartphones since 2013 with the Galaxy S4, and now Samsung is looking to continue on that path with the Galaxy S6 Active.
Yesterday we saw leaked photos of Samsung’s rugged spin-off, and today it’s possible the device, touting model number SM-G890A, cleared through the FCC. There hasn’t been official confirmation on what this device is, but based off of the similarities of last year’s model number for the Galaxy S5 Active, SM-G890A, its likely that this is the Galaxy S6 Active.
The Samsung Galaxy S6 Active is expected to have identical specs of the Galaxy S6–the same Exynos 7420 SoC, 5.1-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED panel, 16-megapixel rear camera, and a 5-megapixel front shooter. The only difference the S6 Active might see is a larger, 3500mAh battery over the S6’s 2600mAh solution.
This same device showed up in the Bluetooth SIG database not long ago as well.
These are just rumors, and since this device cleared through the FCC, it shouldn’t be long before we hear something official on the matter.
Do you think this is the S6 Active? Could we see an AT&T release date quickly approaching? Let us know in the comments.

LG’s G Pad X 8.3 tablet is headed to Verizon with Android 5.0 and stereo speakers in tow
Following up on his earlier leak saying that Sony, LG, HTC and Apple were sending the Xperia Z4, G Pad X 8.3, Desire 826 and iPad Mini 4 respectively, to Verizon, @evleaks has posted a picture of the alleged LG G Pad X 8.3, as seen above.
There isn’t a ton of details to be gleaned from this leak, although it does appear to be sporting stereo speakers that are situated on the brushed metal rear panel, much like the original G Pad 8.3 tablet. An obvious sign that the G Pad X 8.3 will have a cellular version is the 4G signage under the Verizon branding. Looking at the image of the front of the device, it would seem that the tablet is running Android 5.0 Lollipop with LG’s latest UX 4.0 overlay.
There are no details about pricing or availability as yet, but I’m sure we learn more details about the LG G Pad X 8.3 soon. For me personally, I hope that this is the high-end successor to the original G Pad 8.3 that many of us have been waiting for. What sort of specifications would you like to see in the LG G Pad X 8.3?

YotaPhone 2 receives some major changes, now available in white
The YotaPhone 2, touting an OLED display on the front and an E-ink solution on the back, today has received some major changes.
As earlier reports suggested, the first of those changes is a major price cut. The YotaPhone 2 can now be purchased for £440 in the UK and €599 in the rest of Europe, which is quite a price cut when you consider it was 100 more last year. These prices put the 32GB model at about $680 in US dollars.
While the device isn’t available in North America yet, Yota plans on bringing the device to the U.S. in July with the help of an earlier announced Indiegogo campaign. Additionally, it was unveiled earlier this year that the device will be available on one of the four major carriers in the United States.
Besides a price cut and a possible North American launch, the YotaPhone 2 is receiving some major software changes, which the company says is largely because of Android Lollipop. The software update has improved the phone’s performance, responsiveness, and even the camera.
Yota today has also released a white model of the YotaPhone 2. For the most part, it’s identical to their black option, the only real change users will notice is that the colors are inverted on the E-ink panel.
Overall, this unique dual-panneled smartphone is a genius design, and we’re looking forward to a US release. Are you? Let us know in the comments.

ASUS ZenWatch 2 launching in Q3 2015 with improved battery life
While the likes of the LG G Watch R, Watch Urbane and the Moto 360 have taken all the attention among the Android Wear smartwatches, the ASUS ZenWatch has also received considerable praise from the customers.
A new report now suggests that the successor to the wearable will arrive in the third quarter of the year and will sport significantly upgraded hardware. The company CEO Jerry Shen brushed aside rumors of the smartwatch facing release delays and said that the ZenWatch 2 will be shown off at Computex Taipei between the 2nd and 6th of June.
It is also said that the ZenWatch 2 will come with a 4-day battery life, double the amount of battery that the current model offers. It’s not known if the smartwatch will sport a different display design this time around, but luckily we don’t have to wait long to find out.

FreedomPop foraying into the UK markets in July
Popular American prepaid carrier, FreedomPop recently announced its intentions to launch its services in the UK. The carrier has now mentioned that this plan will officially come to fruition starting in July this year.
Customers of the service will receive 200 minutes of voice, 200 texts and 200MB of cellular data for free, which is enough to attract customers towards its offering. The carrier hopes to bring its services to other regions of Europe as well as Asia in the future. They are reportedly planning to get about 100,000 customers in the UK this summer, which might be a realistic target considering the demand for low cost carriers in the UK.
The carrier will also offer the ability to get a new SIM for a foreign country using the same number. This will let you make foreign calls at local call rates, saving you plenty of money. This service is said to cost £2 when it is revealed in a couple of months. There have been plenty of low cost carriers launching in the UK recently, so FreedomPop will fit in well.

LG reportedly confirms arrival of its 2015 Nexus handset
Earlier this year, it was said that Huawei was in the running to make the next Nexus smartphone. This device was said to be sporting a 5.7 inch display. Subsequent reports mentioned that this was only one of the two Nexus devices that Google was looking to launch with the second one made by LG.
Today, a new report from a tech site seems to have confirmed through sources within LG that this is indeed true. This basically means that LG’s third Nexus smartphone could be launching this year, making them Google’s favorite OEM.
Of course none of this is set in stone at the moment, but launching two Nexus phones makes sense for Google considering the way the market is reacting lately.
We’re still some distance away from the launch of this handset, so it’s too early to comment on the hardware of the device yet. But since this is supposed to be a smaller alternative to the 5.7 inch Nexus handset, we expect the display to be at least 5 or 5.2 inches in size.
What do you think?

Watch Samsung’s Galaxy S6 Edge get blown to pieces with a Desert Eagle
Drop tests and unboxing are commonplace on YouTube, but how about videos where smartphones get shot with a Desert Eagle? That’s a bit more unique.
In this video, YouTube channel Unbox Therapy brings us a Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, covered in dbrand‘s carbon fiber skin, against the Desert Eagle. I think you’ve got a pretty good idea of what happens. But, shot in 4K with the Phantom Flex4K Ultra HD video camera, this is some of the most beautiful destruction you’ll see, especially if you’re, well, watching it in 4K. Take a look for yourself:

I’m not sure which is more enjoyable. The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge getting blown up with a Desert Eagle or a hole being shot through the iPhone 5S with a 50 caliber sniper rifle.
