Samsung has certainly done a fairly good job of turning their update image around over the last few months. I remember a time when updates to anything over a year old was a pipe dream and if it did land, it would be for the international variant. Now we are seeing a near weekly push from one carrier or another to one device or another that is putting Android 5.0 Lollipop in the hands of consumers. Today we see word on the Sprint support page for the Samsung Galaxy S4 in regards to updating to Android 5.0 Lollipop.
Sprint is a little caddy about what all is included though. We have seen Verizon start pushing Lyft into updates while AT&T is pushing Uber in. Sprints last update to the Galaxy S4 was back in July of 2014 and brought along the HD Voice icon and some Google security patches. With the Lollipop update that is all they list in the description section. Not that it is a bad thing if they just handed over Android 5.0, but I am sure there are apps removed, things fixed and possibly new things included.
If you are still sporting a stock Samsung Galaxy S4 on the Now Network, then be on the lookout for a software update. It will be rolling out in stages as usual, but you can always head into Settings > More > System Update > Update Samsung Software > Check Now. Undoubtedly you will need well over 50% battery life, a solid Wi-Fi connection and plenty of time to kill for the file to download and install. Previous updates on other carriers seemed to land around 1GB. In the end, you should end up Android 5.0 Lollipop with version number L720VPUGOD2.

Blur Premium Privacy Protection, 74% off
Unless you’re a drug dealer or terrorist, I’d imagine you value your phone number, e-mail address, and credit card information. Throughout the course of interacting in the online and physical world, you’re often pressed to fork over that information even when the recipient doesn’t always engender a lot of faith in you. There’s nothing like a creep-o encounter on Craigslist to make you question your faith in humanity.
What if you could pick and choose who you give your real phone number to and who you supply with a dummy number that routes to you? What if you could save your inbox from the bombardment of junk e-mails when signing up for a new service? Blur Premium Privacy Protection reinstates privacy in your life by doing all of this and more.
Blur creates temporary masked e-mail addresses, phone numbers and credit card details so you’re completely in charge of your personal information. Who doesn’t want to be invisible to hackers? Blur also helps you manage and organize your passwords with included encryption. Your login information can be stored on mobile and desktop for one-click access.
Meet a potential partner at the club and not sure if you’re ready to give them your direct line? Masked phone number. Traveling and uncomfortable with exposing your true credit card digits? Create a time/balance-managed alternative number (valid anywhere CC’s are accepted). A subscription to a private solution like Blur usually retails for $195 but AndroidGuys can claim lifetime security for just $49.99!

Flickr update brings new features to keep your 1TB of photos organized
Recently, Yahoo owned Flickr announced they would be offering 1TB of data back-up for photos, for FREE. That’s right, if you did not know, Flickr will store up to 1TB of photos for free. 1TB of photos can be up to 500,000 photos which is nearly impossible to organize if you have taken that many. Not only is the photo storage free, but Flickr claims the photos will stay private which is probably the most important factor when choosing a back-up service.
To help keep you photos organized, Flickr updated their Android app with a feature called ‘Camera Roll’. The new feature is supposed to make sifting through your collection of photos easier – you can view your entire history of photos by when they were taken and when they were uploaded. Camera Roll also includes bulk editing tools, and ways to quickly add titles, descriptions, tags, and other metadata. Even thought he photos are set to private, Flickr also offers a simple way to share photos socially.
Flickr also created a tool to help with uploading files and that feature is called ‘Uploadr’. Uploadr is compatible with Mac and Windows, and it lets you easily upload thousands of photos from wherever you are storing them on your computer. Once you select the photos you want to upload, you are free to go about your business until the process finishes. It doesn’t get much more simple than that, and since the photos are in the cloud, you should not have to worry about having external storage hooked up to your computer, in case your primary hard drive fails, anymore. Not only can you bulk upload, but you can also bulk download those same files.
I downloaded Flickr onto my phone yesterday and now I can cancel my Dropbox 1TB data back-up plan.

OnePlus One touchscreen issues still remain for some, fix said to be on its way

The OnePlus One debuted last year with the motto “Never Settle”, promising an experience that would stand above the competition at an aggressive price. While they lived up to delivering a solidly spec’d handset with a killer price tag, it hasn’t exactly been smooth sailing for the company, or its consumers. OnePlus has come under heavy fire in the past for its marketing, its invite system, its customer service, and its quality assurance. In particular, there have been many reports going back as far as last year about potential issues with the touchscreen.
When the reports of touchscreen issues first originated, OnePlus investigated the issue and said they were relatively confident that the issue did not have to do with hardware. Through their tests, they concluded a software solution would do the trick. And yet here we are today, with a number of users still facing touchscreen issues.
Here we are today, with a number of OnePlus One users still facing touchscreen issues.
While OnePlus did offer up a software fix back in February, unfortunately it didn’t resolve the issue for everyone. For what is it worth, OnePlus says they are well aware of the lingering issues and are working with Synaptics to release a final firmware fix that will address any remaining touchscreen issues. There is no exact word on when that will hit, however.
Considering the fact that software didn’t fully fix the problem last time, it’s hard not to be a little skeptical about whether or not a final firmware fix will make any real difference. Many of the users still reporting issues with the touchscreen believe it is an issue of hardware, not software, and that it supposedly has to do with a faulty design in the grounding of the device. Regardless of what the root issue is, we hope that OnePlus eventually finds a way to address it for both the sake of users and for the company’s reputation.
Are you a OnePlus One user, if so, do you have touchscreen issues? Let us know about them in the comments below.

Sponsored by: CubX
[Price: Free]
CubX is a puzzle game that employs a unique spin on the game of Tetris. Instead of controlling the blocks and where they fall, you instead control the platform that they fall on. Blocks can come from both the bottom and the top and you can engage in various game modes to challenge yourself. It’s a bit difficult at first but quite enjoyable once you get used to it. It’s also totally free with no in-app purchases.

Hello and welcome back to Android Apps Weekly! Here are the big headlines from the last week:
- The latest Humble Bundle came out this last week and it features some great games. You can pay whatever you want and get The Last Express, Spaceteam, and Tilt to Live 2. If you beat the average, you can have Monument Valley, Blek, and Joe Danger. It’s a cheap way to get some great games and give to charity.
- Google is currently testing a new method of converting websites so that they load four times faster and consume 80% less data. This is great news for people in countries like India and Indonesia where data connections aren’t so good and it’ll help the rest of us a little bit too.
- Google has also officially acquired an app called Timeful. Timeful is an app that combines to-do lists, calendar, and scheduling all in one place and then tries to help people get it all done. Ostensibly, Google will be using this in their own products to make them smarter.
- Everyone remembers Snake, the classic mobile game that used to come on old cell phones. The original creator has announced that he is launching a sequel called Snake Rewind to the Google Play Store. We don’t have an exact release date but it’ll be out this month.
- In our last bit of news this week, a woman got out of a hostage situation by ordering a pizza. She convinced her attacker to let her order some pizza for her kids and used the special instructions box in the Pizza Hut app to ask them to phone for help. Everyone made it out okay and the hostage taker is now in jail. Awesome.
To see the rest of the Android apps and games headlines, news, releases, and updates, don’t forget to check out this week’s newsletter. We have a lot more stuff in there that we couldn’t fit into the show and we release every single Friday. Wrap up
That’s it for this week folks! If we missed any great Android apps or games news, let us know in the comments!
Galaxy S6 getting performance improving update in Europe

The Galaxy S6 has been showered with praise, but that doesn’t mean it’s without flaws. One glaring issue that many users are facing is subpar memory management that causes background apps to be closed sooner than normal. That can get annoying really fast, as you can imagine, especially when you consider the caliber – and price tag – of the Galaxy S6.
The good news is a fix for this software issue should be coming. Last week Samsung UK announced on Facebook that “micro-updates” are in the works to improve the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge’s performance and stability, and now one such update has hit a device belonging to the folks at GSM Arena.
According to the website, the update brings a noticeable improvement in performance and stability. Bearing the G920FXXU1AODG code number and weighing 138 MB, the update reportedly made the European version of the Galaxy S6 run “a lot snappier.”
Unfortunately, the OTA changelog doesn’t specify what kind of stability improvements and bug fixes it brings, so there’s no guarantee that the dreaded RAM-clearing bug has been solved for good.
European Galaxy S6 users, have you encountered the memory issue? Any recent OTA updates?

Mini version of LG G4 coming, reportedly called the G4c

Last year’s LG G3 flagship had no shortage of low and mid-range variants including the G3 Beat, G3 Stylus, and G3 Vigor. To little surprise, it seems LG is content to repeat this trend, as newly leaked details surrounding the LG G4c have now emerged.
Just like the LG G3 Beat, we are looking at a miniaturized version of LG’s flagship, with stripped down specs to match. The LG G4c is powered by a Snapdragon 410 processor with just 1GB RAM. Other specs include a 720p 5-inch display, 8GB storage, microSD, an 8MP rear cam, a 5MP front cam, and the new LG UX 4.0 — built on Android 5.0 Lollipop. As you can see in the images, the LG G4c also has the same diamond patterning on its plastic back that you’ll find with the plastic version of the G4. The shape of the rear volume and power buttons also match the G4.

It’s unclear exactly how wide of a launch the LG G4c will enjoy, or even if that will be its final name when it launches. The rumor mill does suggest it will start rolling out in Europe, starting with Germany in June, but nothing is set in stone just yet.
While we understand that some consumers like smaller phones, it would be nice if more manufacturers followed Sony’s cue and delivered a compact experience that still manages to offer a big punch. What do you think, interested in the LG G4c? Conversely, would you be interested in a smaller G4 variant if it still offered similar specs to the full-size model?
Drone owner gets a Royal telling off for flying near Windsor Castle
If you’re a drone enthusiast living in the UK, heed this advice: Don’t fly anywhere near land owned by the British Monarchy. Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are already banned from Royal Parks and now, a pilot has been told off for flying within 50 metres of Windsor Castle. The Queen was visiting the royal residence when a tourist flew his drone nearby, breaking rules set out by the Civil Aviation Authority. Police officers quickly stepped in and explained the legislation to the pilot — the Metropolitan Police Service says “no further action” was necessary, but reports suggest he was also asked to delete his footage. As consumer drones become more prevalent, we suspect incidents like this will happen more often — if you want to make sure you’re never caught out, be sure to read our guide first.
