‘Avengers: Infinity War’ will be filmed with IMAX cameras only

The final planned Avengers films, Avengers: Infinity War – Parts 1 & 2, will be the first movies ever to be shot exclusively with IMAX cameras, Variety reports. First, directors Anthony and Joe Russo will try out a new, lighter 2D digital camera from IMAX and Arri to shoot 15 minutes of Captain America: Civil War. Then, they’ll plan the Infinity War movies around the IMAX camera. The first Infinity War film is due on May 4, 2018, while part two is scheduled to hit theaters on May 3, 2019. “The Russos are going to spend the next 15 months or so designing the making of the Avengers films with these cameras in mind,” IMAX Entertainment CEO Greg Foster said. “They’re not looking at this a week before they start filming or only focusing on an important section of the film. This is something that’s never happened before.”

Spotify wants to get into online video

Spotify on an iPhone 6

Spotify is virtually synonymous with streaming music, but it may be poised to shake things up in the near future. Wall Street Journal sources claim that the company is planning to launch a web video service. It’s not certain exactly what the focus would be, although Spotify is reportedly reaching out to both YouTube-focused creators as well as old-fashioned media outlets in the hopes of licensing content and creating original programming. You likely won’t need a paid subscription to watch, and the offering might even tap your music habits to suggest content — you’d see different videos if you listen to downtempo music instead of dance tracks.

If the leak is accurate, Spotify might unveil the video platform as early as a just-announced event on May 20th. There’s certainly some pressure to act sooner than later. The company’s up-and-coming nemesis, Tidal, has made a point of offering music-related videos alongside songs. Meanwhile, YouTube is headed in the opposite direction — it’s expanding to music subscriptions after years of focusing solely on moving pictures. A Spotify video service would be less about trying to conquer new territory and more about fending off rival media services that promise more features.

Google brings you a Street View look of the world’s oldest island, Madagascar

madagascar-streetview

Google Maps has been a step ahead of the competition when it comes to offering navigation and precise details about a particular location. A week ago we saw Google offering Street View imagery of the Loch Ness river marking the anniversary of the first alleged sighting of the monster.

Users have now been treated to Street View images of the world’s oldest island, Madagascar. You can walk through the island at your leisure using Street View and check out the abundance of wildlife and flora scattered across the island. You can even take a canoe across the Sambirano river and explore the island that way.

Of course, you can also opt to view the island from a distance, which gives you a proper look of the entire island. This is an excellent initiative by Google to bring images from remote parts of the world to the users on a global level.

Google has brought these images to Street View in accordance with the Department of Water and Forests: University of Antananarivo, the Madagascar Ministry of Culture, and Madagascar National Parks.

The Madagascar Island is located in Southeast Africa. You can find the Street View images of the entire island from the link here.

Straight Talk offering up to 5GB of 4G LTE data if you bring your own phone

straightalklte

American prepaid carrier Straight Talk has now made some changes to its Unlimited 4G LTE data plans. The carrier mentions that users will now be able to get 5GB of high speed LTE data, beyond which the speeds will be throttled to 3G or 2G depending on your location.

To avail this offer, customers will have to bring their own device and will not be able to use one of the many handsets on offer from Straight Talk. The carrier’s $30 ‘All You Need’ plan is exempt from this promotion.

Interestingly, this deal is applicable for both existing and new customers of Straight Talk. The carrier points out that this is a special offer which means that it might not be available for long, so interested users will need to hurry before the carrier changes its mind.

LG G4c expected to launch in Europe early June

LG_G4_From_NYC_02

Similar to Samsung’s history of launching Mini devices alongside its flagships, LG is expected to launch the LG G4c, the mini version of the G4, in European stores early June.

Keep in the mind, the LG G4c is no LG G4; the specs have been ridiculously trimmed down. LG’s G4c features a 5-inch 720p IPS display, powered by the Snapdragon 410 chipset. Sporting a 1.2GHz processor and 1GB of RAM, the device doesn’t have much power like it’s big brother. The smartphone has only an appalling 8GB packed in it, but there is a microSD card slot for expandable storage.

LG G4c

It also comes with your standard camera features–an 8-megapixel shooter on the back, LED flash, and a 5-megapixel performer on the front.

The device will be launching in Germany the first week of June, and more regions from there on out. Priced at $318, you will find the smartphone to be a bit pricey for the value it has. Since the OS takes up most of that 8GB’s of storage, you’ll be forced to purchase a microSD card, if you want an optimal running smartphone.

In terms of value, even with the LG G4’s disappointing lack of Quick Charge, it might be best to spring for that $199 on a two-year contract. What do you think?

New South Korean chip plant to begin production in first half of 2017, Samsung says

samsung_logo_with_people

Samsung Electronics revealed that its new South Korean-based chip plant will begin production in the first half of 2017. As smartphone earnings begin to slow, the company hopes that the new plant will provide more growth.

Based out of the city of Pyeongtaek, Samsung plans on investing 15.6 trillion won or $14.4 billion in the factory, which is the largest amount of money Samsung has ever committed to a single facility.

“The Pyeongtaek semiconductor plant will play a central role in solidifying leadership in the mobile and server markets, which have shown rapid growth in demand recently, and securing share in the next-generation internet of things market,” Samsung said in a statement.

It’s obvious that the Korean tech giant has big plans and high hopes for this particular plant, as the company plans on investing yet another 10 trillion won to boost the plant’s capacity. That won’t be an immediate investment, and there was no word on when that is to happen, but we’ll probably hear about it closer to when the plant begins production in 2017.

It’s not clear as to what Samsung’s new plant will be producing, but there are rumors saying that it plans to produce DRAM memory chips. Another division of the plant could be allocated to producing mobile processors, which certainly isn’t too far-fetched of an idea, especially with Samsung’s move away from ARM chips. In the end, the tech giant will likely adapt the plant to market demands at the time of production.
