[New Game] Alien Creeps TD a tower defense alien killing machine
Looking for a new tower defense game to kill the long work hours of Wednesday? Outplay Entertainment Ltd just released a new one that looks pretty good called Alien Creeps TD.
The title gives the gist of the game. It is a tower defense game that pits you against an age old alien invasion story line. It brings over 50 insane challenges to complete, 25 explosive two minute rounds optimized for mobile, 60 achievements, 50 towers to use and upgrade, Heroes to deploy, reinforcements and airstrikes to share with your friends (via Facebook login. Not required to play though.)
Unlike some of the other tower defense games I have played, this one has a bit more to it. You don’t really have the ability to place the towers where you want like you do in Field Runners. The Aliens have a pre-determined path and you can only build your towers on pre-determined bunker locations. You have to use your engineer between matches to upgrade your towers, which takes time or gems, once upgraded then you can use the energy collected killing aliens to upgrade during battle. During game play you have control of physical troops from infantry towers, as well as your heroes, air strikes and the Tesla tower. This small addition makes the lack of freedom in tower placement a non issue really. The audio is great and the animations are smooth so far and there seems to be some pretty good replay value with each mission having three levels to complete.
Alien Creeps TD is a free title for all Android devices, which does mean it offers up in-app purchases. Judging from the first bit of gameplay you should be able to play a large majority of the title without spending money. However, with some upgrades and other areas of the game drawing up “time until completion” you might end up dropping some cash to move things along faster.

iOS 8 Hidden Features Video: Battery Usage By App, Hidden Photos, Siri Hands-Free, and More
Apple released iOS 8 to the public today, giving millions of users their first look at the new operating system. Along with all of the major features, like Continuity, Notification improvements, Messages upgrades, and the introduction of third-party keyboard/Touch ID access, there are also dozens of other minor tweaks and changes that have been introduced in iOS 8, both ahead of the OS’s initial launch to developers and across the beta testing period.
Outlined in the video below are some of the most interesting and handy tweaks in iOS 8, including automatic credit card scanning, expanded weather options, quick access to contacts, a hands-free mode for Siri, hidden photos, and more.
We’ve been collecting and cataloguing minor feature changes to iOS 8 since the first beta was released, documenting the development of new features and providing a one-stop location for all the changes that have largely gone under the radar.

For example, in beta 4, Apple introduced a Tips app that offers iOS 8 users information about all of the new features in the operating system. Beta 5, meanwhile, added location information to photo collections in the Photos app, and beta 4 saw a Control Center redesign.

List of Third-Party Keyboards Now Available for iOS 8 Users
iOS 8, released to the public today, includes an API that allows developers to create system-wide third-party keyboards for the first time, which will let users select from a range of different keyboards with unique functions.
We’ve rounded up a list of the best third-party keyboards currently available to you find the keyboard best suited to you. Some of these keyboards are in the App Store now, while others will begin rolling out today following the launch of iOS 8.
SwiftKey (Free) – SwiftKey is a gesture-based keyboard that allows users to type by dragging their fingers from key to key. Along with offering predictive suggestions, SwiftKey integrates with SwiftKey Cloud to let a user’s preferences be backed up and synced across all devices.
Swype ($0.99) [Direct Link]- Like SwiftKey, Swype is a gesture-based keyboard that allows users to drag their fingers from key to key in order to create words. Swype’s built-in predictive text engine determines what was being typed, and it offers predictive punctuation to speed up typing. Swype also includes several different themes for custom looks. SwiftKey and Swype are fairly similar, and Re/code has done a review comparing and contrasting them.
Minuum ($1.99) [Direct Link] – Minuum is a resizable keyboard that can be shrunken down (via swipe gestures) to allow more of the screen to be seen. Minuum also takes advantage of a robust autocorrect feature that automatically corrects spelling as words are typed and offers word suggestions.
Fleksy ($1.99) [Direct Link] – Fleksy is known as the fastest keyboard in the world. It incorporates advanced autocorrection features to interpret what’s typed (which improves over time) and it uses swipe gestures to make it easy for users to delete, add punctuation, spaces, and select alternate autocorrect suggestions. It also includes support for emoji and offers a resizable keyboard.
TouchPal (Free) [Direct Link] – TouchPal is another keyboard that lets users drag a finger over letters in quick succession to spell words, suggesting different choices based on input. TouchPal also offers a design that’s similar to the standard keyboard, but it incorporates quick access buttons to allow for easy insertion of punctuation and special characters.
TextExpander ($4.99) [Direct Link] – Built into an update of the existing TextExpander app, the TextExpander keyboard allows users to type in short abbreviations, which are then spelled out fully. For example, tyvm might become thank you very much.
KuaiBoard ($1.99) [Direct Link] – Formerly known as QuickBoard, KuaiBoard is not a traditional keyboard. It’s designed to let users insert chunks of frequently typed text like signatures, address information, billing information, and more. As outlined in our full hands-on post, KuaiBoard lets users create blocks of text that can then be inserted anywhere. It also has a feature that automatically detects a user’s location, allowing it to be typed into a text message or email.
Third-party keyboards require users to install a separate app for each keyboard. Once downloaded, a keyboard can be turned on in the Settings app. In Settings, go to General –> Keyboards –> Add New Keyboard and tap whichever keyboard needs to be installed. From there, it is easy to switch between available keyboards by holding down on the Globe or Emoji icon in any app that supports keyboards.

Moto Exit: Punit Soni announces his departure from Motorola
Vice President of Product Management at Motorola, Punit Soni, today announced his departure from the company. A post on his Google+ account tells us he’s leaving Motorola “after a couple of amazing years in the best job I ever had”.
The news, which comes rather abruptly, arrives at an interesting time for Motorola. In the big scheme of things we have the pending transition over to Lenovo. More immediately, however, we’re seeing the launch of the next-gen Moto X and Moto G smartphones.
Looking over some of Soni’s recent interactions we can’t help but sense a general dissatisfaction with the smartphone industry. When asked a few days ago whether we might expect a Verizon Developer Edition of the new Moto X he said no, later adding the following:
I agree we have to change the system. I will keep these thoughts front and center in my mind regardless of what role/where I am in the future. I am sorry that these devices are not more open. But we got to keep hacking away at the system.
Perhaps there was some butting of heads and conflicting viewpoints happening between Motorola and wireless providers. Or, worse, maybe there’s some discord with the Moto ranks. We’ll be curiously watching what happens within Motorola over the next few months, how about you?

AT&T brings Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S to its tablet lineup
Starting today, AT&T will be taking pre-orders for the Samsung Galaxy Tab S in both the 10.5 and 8.4 inch sizes. Shipping is expected to take place on Sept. 23, or if you want to wait to buy them in store you just have to wait 3 days longer.
Both tablets qualify for AT&T’s Next plan, for 0 down and $31.50 a month for the 10.5 inch flavor and $26.50(both for 20 months) for the 8.4 inch version. If you want to buy them outright, the 10.5 version will be $629 and the 8.4 inch version will be $529 with no annual contract.
If you’re confused as to which tablet this is specifically, because of Samsung’s wide assortment of tablets, the Tab S is the tablet with the high resolution Super AMOLED display. Most other tablets use LCD technology which doesn’t allow for high contrast and vivid colors like the Tab S. The Tab S is also super slim and has a soft-touch plastic back similar to that on the Galaxy S5. Samsung powers the Tab S with an Exynos 5 processor with 3GB of RAM to allow seamless multitasking which Samsung does superbly well. In addition to the high end hardware, the Tab S also comes with a fingerprint scanner for additional security.
AT&T is also offering 50% off the Tab S keyboard with the purchase of either of the Tab S tablets.

T-Mobile’s Uncarrier 7.0 plan is here, check it out before the 23rd!
Today is the day! T-Mobile’s new Wi-Fi CellSpots are available in stores, and the other facets of their Uncarrier 7.0 plan are in full effect!

After a week of waiting, I walked into my local T-Mobile corporate store to see about picking up a new Wi-Fi CellSpot. They had them in stock, but barely knew what the devices were, let alone how they would process an order for one, so I waited for the kind representative who had the bad luck to have to assist me to read up on what exactly the device is, does, and how to sell it.

The representative disappeared behind the employee doors and re-emerged with the coveted Wi-Fi CellSpot. I began to salivate, idly thumbing the raised numbers on my debit card, ready for throw my $25 at T-Mobile. He placed the box on the counter before me.
Another five minutes of reading followed by a confused “I’m not sure I can sell this yet” and the near hospitalization of the representative, were I not a praying man.
After another 20 minutes of listening to the salesman talk to customer service he redirected his attention to me with bad news, and some unexpected good news.
The bad news was that I wouldn’t be paying the $25 deposit required of post-pay customers to take home my very own CellSpot today, I would have to wait seven business days for the router to be shipped to me. The good news, however was that because I came in before September 23rd, I wouldn’t have to pay the deposit at all.
If you want one of these bad-boys, get to a store before the 23rd so you don’t have to pay the deposit.

CordCruncher Mic’d Headset review
Back in the summer of 2012, we took a look at CordCruncher’s original headphones. We had a bit to say about these bad boys, and now the company has improved their model by adding an in-line microphone.
The Cord Cruncher Mic’d headset is wrapped around a sleeve of non-latex rubber. This headset has good sound quality and now a built in mic to ensure that you can meet all of your audio needs. The lows, mids, and highs are pretty good no matter the genre of music/audio. Bass and Treble do pretty darn well. The only thing we were possibly left looking for was better noise isolation for the earbud tips.

Adidas miCoach teams up with MyFitnessPal, combines fitness and nutrition tracking
Balls, shoes, watches… Adidias miCoach line of smart things has been expanding to track your activity, no matter what you’re into. Until recently, the fitness platform was a closed one, meaning all that precious data was siloed from non-Adidas software. Now, the company has partnered with MyFitnessPal so that your digital coach can know what you’re eating in addition to how hard you have (or haven’t) been working out. Users can choose to automatically sync their data with MyFitnessPal, which, according to Adidas, will let folks “gain new insights that will enable them to balance nutrition and exercise.” Exactly what insights it’ll provide remain unsaid, but at the very least you’ll be able to compare your caloric intake and expenditures in one place — self-imposed guilt trips have never been easier.

Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin has struck a deal with Boeing and Lockheed to build space rockets
Wondering why NASA gave Boeing the lion’s share of its space taxi funding? Jeff Bezos could have something to do with it. Shortly after NASA awarded Boeing $4.2 billion in funding, the Wall Street Journal claimed the company padded its bid with a partnership with Bezos’ Blue Origin. Turns out, the WSJ was right: today Blue Origin and the United Launch Alliance (a joint venture of Boeing and Lockheed Martin) entered an agreement to fund and build the Blue Origin BE-4 rocket engine. Basically, Boeing is going to build NASA’s space taxi capsules and Bezos’ rocket company is going to launch them out of our atmosphere.
It’s a sensible alliance — the ULA has been the government’s preferred rocket provider for awhile now, while Blue Origin is striving to build better rockets for a lower price point. Still, it’ll be awhile before we see capsules climbing on Blue Origins engines: the plan is to develop and test the BE-4 over the next four years. Full scale testing isn’t expected until 2016, and the rocket even fly until 2019. Still, that’s right on schedule, and the firms expect the rocket to be an integral part of our nation’s next-generation launch setup.
