Alleged Sony Xperia Z3 sized up next to the original Samsung Galaxy Note

sony_xperia_z1_720

In past few weeks, we have seen the Sony Xperia Z3 a few times, and according to the information we have so far, it looks like a worthy successor to the Sony Z series. Xperia Z3 will be running a Snapdragon 801 chip with the latest version of Android. However, folks over at XperiaBlog managed to get their hands on some new pictures of the Xperia Z3, alongside the Samsung Galaxy Note.

Xperia-Z3-versus-Galaxy-Note1The picture above gives us an idea about the dimensions of the Z3, it’s almost equal to the original Galaxy Note, but a little less wider. Also, another picture is shared below which shows that Xperia Z3 will have slightly round edges unlike the predecessors.

Samsung cuts ties with factory following child labor findings

Samsung has announced that it has suspended dealings with one of its manufacturing partners after an activist organization found “serious and persistent” labor violations at a facility in China. China Labor Watch investigated Dongyang Shinyang Electronics and found multiple instances where at least three underage girls were hired to work 12-hour shifts making parts for Samsung’s phones. The report also alleges more widespread issues at the factory, including a lack of safety training or equipment, refusing to hire male workers and forcing employees to work up to 120 hours of overtime — more than three times the legal limit.

Samsung has issued a public statement saying that it will no longer source parts from the factory pending a full investigation. For its part, Dongyang Shinyang claims that a local employment agency is responsible for hiring its personnel, and would have intervened if they “had any idea what was going on.” For now, however, Chinese authorities are involved, and if the claims are found to be true, then Samsung will sever ties with its former partner for good.

Report: Samsung to launch Galaxy Alpha (AKA Galaxy F, S5 Prime) against iPhone

galaxy s5 prime

Samsung will debut its long rumored Galaxy S5 Prime later this fall and take on Apple and it’s next-gen iPhone, reports the Korean media. Slated to arrive in August, the device also known as a Galaxy Alpha, is the aluminum/metal premium we’ve heard about for months. Expected to fill the gap between the Galaxy S and the Galaxy Note lines, it could be part of Samsung’s IFA announcements. We should look for some more concrete details to surface in the coming weeks; Samsung historically hosts its own Unpacked events around the larger conference.

August 13th is the release date of the Samsung Galaxy F (or Alpha), says ETNews

August 13th is the release date of the Samsung Galaxy FThe Samsung Galaxy F has been in and out of the news lately with nothing particularly concrete surfacing; apart from knowing what the device will likely look like thanks to quite a few press renders of the device, the release date of the Galaxy F has been a grey area. Thankfully though, ETNews has come out and given us something relatively specific, saying that August 13th is the release date of the Samsung Galaxy F, or as what they are calling it in Korea, the Samsung Galaxy Alpha.

The report alleges that this release date was chosen to combat the imminent release of the iPhone 6, so it makes sense for Samsung to release its first ever “luxury” device in its wake. The Galaxy F is expected to have a slightly larger screen than the Galaxy S5, but instead house a Snapdragon 805 processor which powers a Quad HD display. All previous rumours also point towards the Galaxy F having a metal body, which would be a nice change for typically plastic Samsung devices.

What do you think about seeing a Samsung Galaxy F release in a month’s time? Let us know your thoughts below.

Galaxy S4 Active meets lawnmower

shattered galaxy s4 active___

Samsung’s Galaxy S4 Active smartphone was announced about a year ago. Buffed up Galaxy S4 got some attention in the past year, although probably not as much as Samsung would have liked. We have a rather interesting story for you about the adventures of this phone.

Reddit user yapinjapin1 claims his friend’s S4 Active “met” the lawnmower. Here’s the gist. his buddy was mowing the lawn and listening to some music on his device, at one point the device fell out of his pocket and ended up under the lawnmower. He turned off the lawnmower and pulled the device out of there just to notice that it was hit by the lawnmower’s blade and damaged it significantly. The phone itself was still operational, even though the blade took off a part of the upper right corner of the phone. Music was still playing after it happened and he claims the phone functions just fine, there are even some pictures to prove that as you can see.

FIrst thing that came to my mind when I saw this was: “Ouch!”, and immediately after that initial shock: “if I stumbled upon this on YouTube in a video format I’d laugh my a** off”, even though I’d be incredibly upset if something like this happened to me. In any case, it’s an interesting story. Did something like this even happened to you? Any accident including your phone you’d like to share perhaps? I personally only dropped a phone a few times without damaging it significantly, nothing to write home about.

If you’re buying an Android Wear watch this weekend, read this first

Android Wear is finally here. Two devices were launched at Google I/O: LG’s G Watch, and Samsung’s Gear Live. Both became available in the Play store this week, and while we’re sure you read our comprehensive review, with much of the spec-sheet almost identical (the same 1.2 GHz processor, 512MB RAM, 4GB of storage and IP67 waterproof rating) there’s not a lot to call between them. But there are some things to consider. We break them down for you here; just jump into the gallery below.

Samsung keeps its distance from the Android pack with Galaxy Apps store

Samsung has spent the last several years trying to separate itself from the rest of the Android pack. Of course, that was much to the chagrin of Google. And while the two apparently reached an agreement to reduce the amount of bloat and branded services, Sammie is quite ready to give up on building its own ecosystem just yet. The company announced a major redesign and rebranding of its own app store, which is now known as Galaxy Apps. The goal, according to WonPyo Hong, president of the media solution center at Samsung Electronics, is to provide “differentiated solutions and services.” And that including delivering “hundreds of apps exclusively available to users of Samsung Galaxy mobile devices.” Though, what compelling apps are included in that and whether or not anyone will use them is still not exactly clear.

The move seems particularly interesting in light of Samsung’s apparent decision to hand over the reins of its enterprise friendly Knox project to Mountain View. Elements of the security suite are going to be incorporated into the next version of Android and security features for the OS will be entirely controlled by Google. But that leaves Sammie in a slightly awkward spot, it doesn’t want to be a commodity handset maker, but ways to stand out are increasingly hard to come by. Whether or not a streamlined, exclusive app store will be enough to do that is debatable. And there’s always the chance that this will rub Google the wrong way and lead to another round of tense negotiations between the maker of Android and its largest hardware partner.

Are we there yet? A century of the smartwatch in pictures

With two Google-powered smartwatches currently on sale, and the circular Moto 360 already causing a stir among design geeks, wearables are one step closer to securing a place on our wrists. And while many of us aren’t ready to strap on a Gear Live, G Watch or Pebble just yet, that doesn’t mean the smartwatch is a new concept. In fact, depending on your definition of “smart,” these gadgets have been fusing time-telling with extra functionality since the early 20th century. From wrist-borne spy cams to radio-controlled timepieces, here’s a look at this wearable’s evolution.
