HTC Talks Ultrapixel Technology in New Technical Translation Video
HTC is at it again with their new technical translation campaign. First, we got to know HTC’s most brilliant feature from the HTC One, BoomSound. Then they talked about the metal body of the One, which we can all agree on was a sexy about the One. Now we get a technical translation of HTC’s ultrapixel camera technology, and just like the other videos, the hilarity arises.
When HTC announced the ultrapixel technology, many of us scratched our heads. When you hear megapixel, its familiar and the more the merrier. HTC felt like changing the game by lowering the megapixels, but assured us that ultrapixels will all but make up for it, especially when it comes to low light. Anyways, check out the video below and let us know what you think of it.
[LEAK] Flip cover case for the All New HTC One leaks out, as well as suggestion of a Google Play Edition
We’ve all seen the Samsung S-View cover and everybody’s attempts to recreate this flip cover case in one way or another. While this kind of case is tried and true, we’ve been waiting to see if someone can do something original and thankfully, it looks like HTC has. Evleaks leaked earlier today the above image which appears to show a flip cover case for the All New HTC One, but instead of having a window to show notifications, this particular flip cover case looks like it uses holes in the cover to give a dot matrix-like read out. It’s a very intriguing idea and there’s a lot that can be shown on such a read out; it’s obviously not as precise as having a window to your screen, but it can be very useful for just getting general notifications or the time.
A few hours later, evleaks also posted this picture, which appears to show the previously mentioned flip cover case but in different colours. The original tweet that these cases were leaked in also had the following comments: “look for M8 to arrive as a Google Play Edition“. That’s not so much a surprise as the HTC One was also made into a Google Play Edition, but for those of you who like your devices with stock Android, you’ll be happy to know you can go that route with the All New HTC One.
What are your thoughts on this type of flip cover case? And would you get the All New HTC One Google Play Edition? (that’s quite a mouthful) Let us know what you think in the comments below.

Android 4.4.2 OTA update for the HTC Butterfly S rolling out Now
HTC appears to have been working quite hard lately to get its Android KitKat update out to all its HTC One handsets, only narrowly missing its promised target. The job of updating the rest of its devices, however, isn’t over yet and today we’ve been told that the Android 4.4.2 OTA update for the HTC Butterfly S is starting to roll out today.
The 737MB update brings the Butterfly S all the KitKat goodies as well as cloud printing support, Bluetooth profiles and security enhancements. If you’re not one to wait for OTA updates to get to you, you can head over to this XDA forum page where the update has been captured and ready for your download.
Presumably HTC is going to continue pushing out Android 4.4.2 updates, and the next in line could be the HTC Butterfly, A.K.A the HTC Droid DNA; I guess we’ll just have to see. Any Butterfly S users seeing the update yet? Let us know if you do in the comments below.

Goophone copies the all new (still-unannounced) HTC One
If you’re going to clone one of 2014′s hottest Android flagships, you might as well clone others, right? Goophone certainly thinks so. It just launched the Goophone M8, a smartphone that bears an uncanny resemblance to the all new (and still-unannounced) HTC One. Not that the similarities are much more than skin deep, mind you. Goophone’s attempt at keepin’ it real fake uses capacitive keys instead of the new One’s on-screen buttons, and we doubt that the middling (if octa-core) processor, 1GB of RAM and 3G data speeds will have HTC breaking a sweat. It only costs $230 to get Goophone’s knock-off, though. And hey, it comes in gold — if you’re only looking for an ostentatious design, you might as well save some cash.

HTC introduces entry-level Desire 310
We all are looking forward to March 25 when HTC will unveil the “All new HTC One”, which will be HTC’s next flagship smartphone. But HTC also has a soft corner for entry-level devices as well, and they just introduced a new budget friendly Android phone. Presenting the HTC Desire 310; a successor to Desire 300, featuring core HTC features like the BlinkFeed and video highlights.

The phone is made to go head to head with devices like the Moto G. With specs like a 1.3GHz MediaTek quad-core processor, a 4.5 inch display, a 5-megapixel camera, a 3-megapixel front-facing camera, dual-SIM card support; so overall, it’s not a bad package.
However, HTC is not planning to target developed markets with this smartphone, so it will be only available in Taiwan this April. HTC decided to focus more on “Desire” brand this year, and recently we also saw the Desire 816 which is a beautiful device.
What are your thoughts about this new smartphone? Should HTC bring it to US and UK markets as well?

HTC’s overpriced Desire 310 ready to underwhelm Europe in April
When the Desire 310 popped up on HTC’s Chinese site a few days ago, we wrote it off as a regional product with no international aspirations. Well, we were mistaken, and though there’s no word on the low-end handset coming to the US, it’s most certainly bound for Europe. HTC didn’t invite the Desire 310 to party at MWC, but then again, there’s not much to celebrate. The handset bundles a 4.5-inch, 854 x 480 display with a 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek CPU, a gig of RAM, 4GB of storage (expandable via microSD), a 5MP camera, 2,000mAh battery, 3G connectivity and Android 4.2. It’s an incremental improvement over the Desire 300, with a few design tweaks like the omission of soft keys (a recent trend for HTC). We’re told in the UK that the Desire 301 will arrive at O2, Vodafone and Carphone Warehouse at the end of April in a selection of hues, and the folks over at GSMinfo.nl note a recommended price of 169 euros for The Netherlands, or around £140 (UK pricing isn’t available yet). With the far superior Moto G going for £100 on pay-as-you-go or £130 unlocked in the UK, though, we can only suggest HTC raise the stakes soon if it’s serious about betting on lower-end devices.

HTC Desire 310 gets officially announced, fills out HTC’s line-up to start 2014
HTC seems to be in device release overdrive these last few weeks; while still not talking much about the inevitable release of its next flagship, the All New HTC One, it has been releasing the other devices that will make up its family of devices to start 2014. Joining the Desire 816 and Desire 610 is the HTC Desire 310, unsurprisingly the tail-ender of the Desire family, bringing budget hardware for hopefully what will be a budget price.
The Desire 310 will have a quad-core 1.3GHz processor with 512MB, 4GB storage with microSD support, and a 4.5-inch 854×480 resolution display. Along for the party will also be a 5MP rear camera and 0.3MP front camera, with all the standard connectivity features: Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, 3G (no LTE of course) and a 2,000mAh battery. No software version was specified for the Desire 310 but its been previously rumoured to be running Android 4.2.2.
The Desire 310 looks awfully similar to the specs of the Nokia X, and while it’s a no-brainer for us as to which one to pick, for the consumers on the fence, the Desire 310 needs to be priced competitively to have a chance of winning the budget market over. What do you think of the HTC Desire 310? Would you consider getting one? Let us know your opinion in the comments.

AT&T to pick up the HTC Desire 610
At MWC HTC announced two new mid-ranged smartphones. The HTC Desire 816 and the Desire 610. Both have an emphasis on design and affordability over high-end specs. As per the norm, HTC didn’t make an announcement to who an where the two new devices would be going specifically. They did make mention of the 816 headed to China though.
The HTC Desire 610 is supposedly going to be a global device that will hit a plethora of carriers and continent sometime in May. So the story goes. HTC has been slipping in the sales department as of late, not for the lack of trying. The HTC One did well for them, but that is the only device that stands out in most peoples minds lately. HTC does need a good mix of high-end and mid range devices in multiple markets to gain some of their footholds again. According to the infamous Evleaks, AT&T is inline to pick up the HTC Desire 610.
HTC Desire 610 headed to AT&T.
— @evleaks (@evleaks) March 5, 2014
That is as far as the talk goes though. A global launch in May is listed on HTC’s website, but it also say ‘Across Europe’. The Desire 610 doesn’t have terrible specs and would make a pretty good little device for plenty of people.
Desire 610 Specs
- 4.7-inch qHD screen
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 Quad core, 1.2 GHz
- 1GB RAM
- 8GB internal storage
- MicroSD card slot
- 2040 mAh battery
- 8 MP Rear camera
- 1.3MP front camera
We will have to see what the budget friendly midranged device will end up going for, and in what colors, when AT&T gets to announcing it.

New HTC One dual-lens camera shown off in detailed leak

Leaked images and videos of the HTC One‘s successor are a dime a dozen, so we’ve already seen every possible nook and cranny of the device. Why, then, are we reporting on the latest find by @evleaks? It gives us the closest and clearest look of HTC’s rumored dual-lens camera setup so far, which is shaping up to be one of the most intriguing features on the phone. It features a smaller lens just above HTC’s standard lens and dual-LED flash, but the purpose of is still a complete mystery. Plenty of theories exist, and we reported on the most likely possibilities demoed at Mobile World Congress last week. Ideas include the ability to cleanly magnify distant subjects without using digital zoom, enhancing low-light performance (which was an area HTC focused on with the One), quicker autofocus and the ability to change a picture’s depth of field. Whether or not these particular benefits show up, it’s hard to dispute that a parallel-lens setup is indeed coming to HTC’s new flagship smartphone.

[LEAK] More photos of the All New HTC One leak out as well as a Benchmark
Just in case you hadn’t already had your fill of photos of the All New HTC One, here are another set of leaked photos for you to enjoy. By now, there’s very little that we haven’t already seen of the device after quite a lot of it was covered in a 12-minute walkthrough video leaked earlier this week, but apparently that’s not going to stop anyone breaching HTC‘s non-disclosure agreement.
While the photos might not generally be of particular interest, there is one photo which shows the All New HTC One‘s performance on the Quadrant benchmarking software. Seeing as the All New One outperforms the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and Xperia Z Ultra, both which possess the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, it’s pretty fair to conclude that the All New One is probably making use of Qualcomm’s newest chipset, the Snapdragon 801. While that’s just speculation, with 3 weeks still to go till the big day on March 25th and the rate at which these leaks are coming, we wouldn’t be surprised if we had a specifications leak in the very near future.
What do you make of these photos and the benchmark? Does the All New HTC One perform as you expected it to? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
