The unlocked HTC One is now only $499

Less than two weeks until the arrival of the All New HTC One, HTC drops the price of the One to $499. We can’t say that this is unexpected – many companies try to get rid of some existing stock before the new one takes over.

Oddly enough, the HTC One with the $100 discount is still pretty expensive compared to other unlocked smartphones. If HTC discounted it by $200, then they might have something. But the unlocked All New HTC One will most likely come in at around $600, so you wouldn’t really be justifying the cost if you bought the One.

Hold off until HTC announces the All New One on March 25th. If the new phone isn’t very good, you might want to consider this option.

New HTC One sold on eBay in Verizon packaging for $500

Given the vast number of leaks about HTC’s all new One, its upcoming flagship launching March 25th, it’s almost surprising that it was this long before we saw a retail unit sold on eBay. But hey, it’s finally happened, although we must say we’re a bit puzzled as to why the sale only netted $500. Naturally, the final retail price will be a bit higher than that. Regardless of price, the fact that it comes in its packaging is more important because it has most of the specs listed on it.

We can’t take this as official confirmation of the phone’s specs — it’s all mere speculation until the One launches on the 25th, so it could still easily change between now and then. However, the box tells us we can expect a 2.3GHz Snapdragon 801 chipset, a 5-inch 1080p display, microSD slot for expandable memory and 32GB internal storage, a 5MP front-facing camera, UltraPixel rear camera with f/2.0 aperture, a Nano-SIM slot and 2GB of RAM. Curiously, the eBay listing has been taken down already, but it appears that the damage is already done and the phone is likely already on its way to the lucky winner.

Leaked ad explains why HTC’s putting a ‘Duo Camera’ in its new One

GSM Arena is reporting that it received a leaked ad that sheds some light on the mystery behind HTC’s next One and its dual backside cameras. Should the information prove true, the handset will feature a larger 5-inch display and its shooters will allow for improved low-light capabilities and after-shot focus adjustments.

Leaked ad explains why HTC’s putting a ‘Duo Camera’ in its new One

Ever since a leaked image showed off dual cameras on HTC’s next One (aka the M8), the rumor mill has been trying to figure out what they’re for, exactly. Now, an ad from Australian carrier Telstra leaked to GSM Arena appears to have removed all mystery. First off, the phone is referred to as the “All New HTC One (M8),” in the copy, likely to distinguish it from the last model. As for the “Duo Camera,” it’ll bring improved low-light capabilities and let you select the focus of a shot after it’s been taken — as predicted. You’ll also be able to highlight significant areas of a shot, soften the background and add 3D effects. Another big reveal is the 5-inch, full HD, scratch-resistant screen (a step up from the last One’s 4.7-inch display), along with dual “BoomSound” speakers. Finally, the latest Sense 6.0 version will let you double tap the screen to turn on the phone and swipe to access apps and social info. The ad looks like the real McCoy, but if you’re still capable of any skepticism, all will be revealed in exactly two weeks.

[LEAK] ‘HTC Duo Camera’ may be the official name of the All New HTC One’s dual-sensor Camera

HTC Duo CameraAustralia is known for many things: kangaroos, koalas, being amazing at cricket and being home to Crocodile Dundee. On this particular occasion though, we might have done the Android community a favour by leaking the official name of the All New HTC One‘s dual-sensor camera in a magazine ad. In the ad, Telstra refers to the camera as the ‘HTC Duo Camera‘, which isn’t quite on the same level as ‘BoomSound’ or ‘UltraPixel’, but it’ll do. As we’ve suspected all along, the Duo Camera will have Lytro Camera-like abilities (read more about the tech behind it here) and will be able to:

“Create vivid images even in low light and professionally edit memories after you’ve taken the shot. Choose where to focus, highlight what you love, soften backgrounds and add 3D effects.”

As well as possibly leaking the camera’s name, rough pricing for the device was also provided. Off-contract from Telstra, the All New HTC One is going to run you $840 AUD, which equates to about $760 USD; it must be noted that Australian prices tend to be a bit higher than the norm, but expect the phone to still be in that ballpark. The ad also makes reference to Sense 6.0 and introduces some of the abilities it has, like double tapping the screen to rotate the orientation of the screen.

What do you think about the naming of the camera as the HTC Duo Camera? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

[LEAK] Lots more photos of the All New HTC One leak out, unsurprisingly looks exactly the Same

photos of the all new htc oneBy now, most of you will have already seen a substantial number of photos of what is going to be the All New HTC One, HTC‘s next flagship device, which is expected to be announced at a March 25th event. In fact, some might say that we’ve probably seen too many leaked photos of the device already (Seriously, does everybody have one or something?). But for those who don’t think they have, or haven’t seen any, you’re in luck as today we have many more photos of the All New HTC One for you to look at.

photos of the All New HTC OneThere’s nothing terribly new in the photos (12 in total), or at least, nothing that we haven’t seen before from the formerly codenamed, HTC M8. Confirmed yet again is the dual-sensor rear camera, as well as the general design of the device. Probably of most note is one of the photographed devices is a China Mobile device, which is good news for those of you who are customers there, but a close second would be the photos that show the All New One posing with its much bigger brother, the HTC One Max. The 5.9-inch Max positively dwarfs the All New One, which is expected to come out a 5-inch device. Check out all the photos below:

HTC’s next One leaks again in all-angle photo shoot

HTC’s upcoming successor to the One, codenamed M8, has been a leaky ship while sailing to its March 25th launch. But the latest set of photos from a Chinese Weibo site leave nothing to the imagination, showing a possible China Mobile retail model from nearly all angles. Of interest are the speaker grills, which seem to be coated with a clear layer of material, possibly for protection. The leaker also said that the M8 used a lot of new CNC process tech, resulting in a very tight build on the handset. Otherwise, the gallery confirms details we’ve already seen and several pics with an HTC One Max show the relative size. To cap it off, @evleaks has has shown a possible LED smart cover for the M8, which mimics one we saw for the Alcatel One OneTouch by showing the weather, time and other info. Head after the break to see the smart cover, or for an all-around view of the (alleged) M8, check the gallery below.

How would you change HTC’s 8X?

It seems like forever ago that HTC was making Windows Phone devices, but it’s not even been a year. HTC’s 8X earned plenty of praise for the fantastic performance, build and battery life – not to mention the display and camera. The downside, of course, was Windows Phone 8, which, at the time, was still too young to hit the spot for our tame phone reviewers. But what about you? We guess that plenty of you would have picked up this phone, so share with us your experiences and what, if anything, you would have changed.
