‘Steve Jobs’ Disappoints in First Full Weekend With 7th-Place Box Office Showing
As the first full weekend in theaters for Aaron Sorkin and Danny Boyle’s Steve Jobs film comes to a close, early box office results have been disappointing, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Estimates put the film’s take at $7.3 million from nearly 2,500 theaters, well below expectations and only good enough for seventh place on the weekend.
Michael Fassbender as Steve Jobs and Seth Rogen as Steve Wozniak in ‘Steve Jobs’
Those backing Steve Jobs had wanted to land somewhere in the teens, but are counting on a long run throughout awards season (an A- CinemaScore should help word of mouth). Jobs is over-indexing in upscale theaters in major cities, including the Bay Area — home of Apple — but falling flat in Middle America. Two weekends ago, the $30 million movie scored the top location average of the year to date when opening in New York and Los Angeles. Through Sunday, its domestic total is $10 million.
“We’re going to redouble our efforts to support these markets,” said Universal domestic distribution chief Nic Carpou. “It’s working great in these theaters now, and we want to make sure it continues to do so.”
The film has generally received a positive reception from critics, particularly for Michael Fassbender’s portrayal of Jobs. Those more familiar with Jobs’ history and those closest to him have, however, been less satisfied with the film, in many cases taking issue with the way Jobs is portrayed and some of the artistic license that deviates significantly from actual events.
Sony might buy Toshiba image sensor division and expand its camera empire

A quick look at Statista and IDC research firms will show you that Sony is not doing great selling smartphones when compared to its competition. But this doesn’t mean they are doing badly in the mobile industry. In fact, they currently dominate the mobile imaging market.
Sony has been a main supplier of camera sensors for manufacturers like Apple, Samsung, Xiaomi, Motorola and others. You have heard the word “Exmor” being thrown around, right? Yeah, Sony’s cameras are all over the smartphone business, but plans for expansions don’t seem to be ending where they currently are.

According to “sources with knowledge of the deal”, Sony and Toshiba are getting ready to sign a deal for 20 billion Yen (close to $165 million USD). If all goes smoothly, this would make Sony the owner of Toshiba’s image sensor division, which would include the plant in Oita, Southern Japan. Toshiba would then pull out of this business and look for greener pastures in other markets.
Of course, Sony declined to comment and Toshiba didn’t say much, but the latter at least gave an answer when contacted. A Toshiba official told Reuters the company was still debating what the best option for their LSI semiconductor and discrete semiconductor businesses was. Not that this tells us anything, but they are also not denying the rumor.

Toshiba is currently not in a bad position, following an accounting scandal in which they overstated about $1.3 billion in earnings going back to 2008/2009. Now they are trying to reconsider their business strategy and the imaging department just might be better in Sony’s hands.
On the other hand, this will simply make Sony a much stronger player in the mobile imaging market, but we are not exactly complaining. They do a good job and will probably only improve thanks to this deal. Of course, if it actually goes through. The deal will probably go public soon enough, so stay in focus!
LG V10 isn’t selling particularly well, even in South Korea
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
If you’re LG, you’d generally expect that any devices you release will sell pretty well in your native country of South Korea – after all, they own the second or third largest population of smartphones there. Unfortunately, it would appear that this is quite far from the truth as the recently released LG V10 didn’t even make it into the top 10 of smartphones sold domestically in its first week on the market. The LG V10 came in 15th, beaten out by the chart topping Samsung Galaxy Note 5, and Samsung’s other various devices like the Galaxy A5 and Galaxy Grand Max making up the rest of the top 10.
That’s got to be disappointing for LG who billed the LG V10 as a premium device to replace the LG G4 in the interim before the LG G5’s release. And it’s not all that bad a phone either – if anything, it offers one of the more unique experiences on any smartphone with its second display and wide-angle selfie technology. It’s a stark reminder of how competitive the smartphone market is right now – even with companies putting everything they can into a smartphone, sometimes they can’t even get decent sales out of it.
What do you think about the LG V10 sales in South Korea? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

US worries Russia would cut undersea data cables in a conflict
Many military commanders will tell you that it’s wise to cut the enemy’s lines of communication. However, the US is concerned that Russia may take this advice one step too far. The New York Times understands that Russia is positioning submarines and spy ships near hard-to-reach segments of undersea data cables, hinting that it might sever internet connections in the event of a conflict. As you might gather, that would create serious problems for the world as a whole, not just Russia’s enemies. Depending on the line, a cut could disrupt internet access (and thus economies) in countries that wouldn’t even be involved in the fight.

Take a tour of Microsoft’s new Fifth Avenue flagship store
Microsoft’s first flagship retail store is opening its doors tomorrow in New York City, just a few blocks from Apple’s iconic glass cube store on Fifth Avenue. This isn’t your typical Microsoft store: It spans five floors in a grand building, and it’ll sport a glass facade that offers a direct view inside. You definitely won’t miss it while walking down the street. Upon entering the store, it’s not hard to feel a sense of deja vu from Apple’s retail style. There’s plenty of hardware spread out for you to fondle on fashionable tables, including Surface Pro 4s, Surface Books, new Lumia phones and a slew of other hardware from Windows PC makers. And there are several “Answer Desks” located throughout the store, which will offer assistance with any piece of Windows hardware, no matter where you bought it. Check out our walkthrough after the break. Slideshow-333319
Cut the Rope: Magic swinging into Android devices this December

Many of us are bad with birthdays, but ZeptoLab wants to make sure you don’t forget about them this year. The gaming company is responsible for the acclaimed mobile series Cut the Rope, a franchise that has just turned 5. In-game gifts were available as a form of celebration, but the the team also wants to surprise you with some great news – another Cut the Rope game is coming!
The new title goes by the name of Cut the Rope: Magic, which still features Om Nom (not like he is going anywhere by now) and offers a new “adventure with magical twists to the series’ popular physics-based puzzles”. The only sad news is that ZeptoLab is not saying much else here. We have no real images of the game and the press release is not exactly the most descriptive.
“For five years, we’ve continued to develop the Cut the Rope games by adding new elements, expanding the story and coming up with new features. Today we’re happy to announce the fifth installment in the series — Cut the Rope: Magic, coming this Christmas, as per our usual Cut the Rope tradition.” -Misha Lyalin, CEO at ZeptoLab
Like with any magic trick, we suppose the surprise is the most important element. But we assume the mechanics will be similar: the game is all about getting the candy to Om Nom while catching the most amount of stars. The only difference here is that there will be some magic tricks involved.

The company didn’t fail to remind us about their success in the mobile game industry, which is actually quite substantial. The game series has obtained over 750 million downloads over these 5 years. That’s no small feat, for sure.
What we do know is that Cut the Rope: Magic is coming to a smartphone near you very soon. It should be hitting Android (and iOS) come December. No pricing details are mentioned, but all other Cut the Rope titles are free to download and include in-app purchases – the same will likely apply to the upcoming game. More details are to be unveiled “in the coming months”, so be ready!

Gameloft’s next big title is Sniper Fury
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
Gaming on our mobile devices is a very lucrative and addicting business. Gameloft is a solid competitor when it comes to bringing titles out that draw crowds. Their portfolio crosses to just about any genre that your heart desires, and to some you didn’t even know you liked. On Friday they announced another title that will be launching soon entitled Sniper Fury.
The sniper only genre isn’t a new one by any means, but solid sniper targeted games that are worth the time and/or money are few and far between. I have played a number of them and Hitman: Sniper from Square Enix has been my personal favorite to date. Not to say there aren’t others out there worth play as I haven’t played them all. Gameloft doesn’t allude to much with the announcement other than it is coming and attached a small teaser trailer to watch.
They do let us know that Sniper Fury uses the latest rendering based technology that was behind Modern Combat 5: Blackout. Anyone that has played that title knows it looked pretty amazing. On the landing page for the game they are offering up additional goodies for those who pre-register and get others involved. Most of which seem like they will turn out to be in-app purchasable options like:
-
5 x SPOTTER
Handheld device, developed from secret bio-radar technology. Identifies and localizes all enemies, human or mechanical, within firing radius. It detects even the slightest of movements, so be sure not to get startled by local wildlife.
5 x SLOW TIME
Amazing medical stimulant that was recently developed in Western Europe. Grants the human body supernatural reaction and movement speed. Perception will tell you that time has stopped. Vital advantage when facing deadly enemies.
5 x PIERCING BULLET
This chemical-warhead rifle ammo enables the penetration of all armor types. The corrosive tip causes damage that’s unprecedented for a weapon classed as a rifle. This is the scientifically guaranteed “target neutralizer.”
Perks are perks. Go sign up for the game and share for perks when the title drops.

ESPN is no longer displaying content on YouTube
YouTube Red was announced this past week and may have left a few providers unsatisfied. ESPN being one of them.
Due to the creation of YouTube Red, ESPN will apparently no longer provide content on YouTube. This is reportedly due to rights and legal issues. However, Disney, the parent company of ESPN, just signed a deal that will include its content on YouTube Red. Which is kind of strange. Unfortunately those are all the details we have right now. Here’s the official statement made by ESPN regarding the service:
“ESPN is not currently part of the Red service. Content previously available on the free YouTube service will be available across ESPN digital properties”

Apple sued over iOS 9’s eagerness to chew up cellular data
Not happy that iOS 9’s WiFi Assist feature is quietly gobbling your iPhone’s cellular data for the sake of boosting your WiFi performance? You’re not alone — and you might get compensation for your troubles. A California-based couple has filed a class action lawsuit accusing Apple of doing too little to warn iPhone owners about WiFi Assist’s data use. Allegedly, the guide it posted in response to concerns about the feature doesn’t cut the mustard. It “downplays” the kind of overage charges you could rack up after upgrading to the newer iOS revision, according to the complaint.
