Wide list of BlackBerry apps get published on Google Play
BlackBerry is getting ready to go near full-time Android. With pre-orders already being up in some countries/carriers for the Priv, BlackBerry seems to be in its final stages for its transition to Android.
Throughout the day you may have come across some new BlackBerry branded applications in the Play Store. In case you’re wondering, these are the real deal. BlackBerry listed several apps today including a BlackBerry Launcher, BlackBerry Camera, BlackBerry Password, BlackBerry Keyboard, DTEK, BlackBerry Services and exFAT. One could now assume that BlackBerry has finished its final stage in terms of software and is moving forward with its big ecosystem transition. However, not all apps can be downloaded from any Android device, so are limited to what we assume for now is just the Priv handset. If you want to take a look at what is available, you can search BlackBerry Limited on the Play Store to find them.
All that BlackBerry has done could soon pay off, however it also has the chance to backfire. It’ll be interesting to see if the market has a response to this major change. What do you think? Is it too little too late?

Chase Launches ‘Chase Pay’ Payments Service to Compete with Apple Pay
JPMorgan Chase & Co today announced plans to launch its own payments service to compete with Apple Pay, reports Re/code. The news comes courtesy of Chase CEO of Consumer and Community Banking, Gordon Smith, who announced “Chase Pay” at the Money20/20 payments conference in Las Vegas.
Chase Pay will work via QR code instead of over NFC, allowing customers to make purchases with their smartphones by showing a QR code to a cashier. If that sounds a lot like the MCX Consortium’s upcoming CurrentC platform, it’s because Chase is partnering up with MCX for its payments service.
The MCX Consortium, which promotes the QR-based CurrentC app and payments service, consists of collection of merchants like Walmart, Target, Sunoco, Kohl’s, Best Buy, Rite Aid, CVS, Lowe’s, Sears, Shell, Michaels, 7-Eleven, and more. Once available, CurrentC will be available as a payment option in all of these retail locations, as will Chase Pay.
In some of these stores, customers will be able to pay by showing a QR code within the Chase Pay app. In others, Chase customers will have to use Chase Pay inside MCX’s own CurrentC app. It’s not clear which of the MCX member retailers will support which method.
CurrentC has been in development for multiple years, giving Apple Pay an edge with its earlier release timeline. While most MCX members were originally subjected to an exclusivity agreement, that has since expired, leading several MCX Consortium members to offer support for Apple Pay. Chase itself also supports Apple Pay, allowing Chase credit cards and debit cards to be used with Apple’s payments service.
CurrentC and Chase Pay are both slated to launch in 2016.
Nexus 6P Android 6.0 Marshmallow factory images now available for download

Google has just posted Android 6.0 Marshmallow factory images for the Nexus 6P. There are two images available as builds MDA89D and MDB08K, though Google hasn’t specified if either of the images are specifically for something like Project Fi or T-Mobile.
The company just released Marshmallow factory images for the Nexus 5X almost a week ago, just one day before the LG-made devices began shipping out to the masses. We still aren’t sure when Nexus 6P pre-orders will start shipping, though we have heard that some lucky users have already started receiving their new devices. Hopefully the arrival of the factory images signal that more pre-orders will begin to roll out soon.
Just remember that flashing a ROM will restore your device back to factory settings, so you’ll want to have everything backed up before you do so. If you’ve tried tinkering around on your new device and want to revert back to stock, the factory images can be downloaded at the link below. And if you’re wondering how to manually install Marshmallow on your Nexus device, feel free to read our guide here.

Android Marshmallow update for the LG G4 stops roll out due to technical reasons
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
LG was obviously very proud to be the first non-Google manufacturer to announce that their flagship smartphone would be updated to Android Marshmallow, but there’s been a bit of a hiccup. According to reports on Reddit, the Android Marshmallow update for the LG G4 has been stopped in Poland with LG citing “technical reasons” for the delay. We’re not quite sure what the issue might be, but we’re glad LG stopped the update rather than continue the roll out and deal with the bug later (which they kind of did for Android Lollipop on the LG G3 and then never fixed it); however, there’s no word on when the roll-out may start again.
This isn’t the first time a manufacturer has halted an update to deal with issues – Samsung did so not long ago with the Android Lollipop. In the end, it’s always better to find the issues before they’re widespread complaints, but you kind of get the feeling the manufacturers are rushing at breakneck speed to get these updates out instead of carefully making sure they’re optimized for their devices.
What do you think about the delay to the Android Marshmallow update for the LG G4? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Germany investigates claims of NSA-backed malware spying
When word got out that both the US’ NSA and the UK’s GCHQ were likely using purpose-built Regin malware for their spying campaigns, that raised more than a few alarm bells… including in the German government, apparently. The country’s prosecutor’s office has launched an investigation into a report that Regin infected (and thus monitored) the laptop of a Chancellery division leader. Officials aren’t jumping to conclusions yet, but it’s easy to guess where their suspicions lie — the concern is that allies are hacking into the devices of multiple German higher-ups, not just its Chancellor. If the evidence holds up, it could worsen political relationships that have already turned a bit sour.

Facebook’s mobile notifications say more about the world around you
Facebook’s mobile app practically revolves around the notifications tab, but it can be a pretty insular place. It won’t show much about what’s happening in your friends’ lives, let alone the outside world. The social network wants to change that, though. It’s rolling out an expanded notifications tab that will show you friends’ life milestones, events you’ve joined and a few details based on pages you’ve liked, such as sports scores and upcoming TV shows. You can also see local goings-on if you like, including movies, restaurants and weather. This isn’t exactly Facebook’s take on Google Now, but it’ll certainly seem familiar.

MasterCard aims to bring mobile payments to every gadget
MasterCard is envisioning a future of ubiquitous payments, where practically every device has the ability to pay for things at contactless terminals. The credit card company unveiled a new program today with precisely that goal, and it has also lined up a bunch of early partners, including GM and wearable companies Nymi and Ringly. It also looks like MasterCard isn’t just looking at typical gadgets — it even wants payments in things like fashion accessories (designer Adam Selman is another launch partner). It’s not hard to see why MasterCard is making this push. Seamless payments are convenient for customers, but it’s also essential for MasterCard to gain a foothold in the post-credit card era. And smaller companies will likely need some help if they want to integrate payments (Jawbone, for example, teamed up with American Express for the Up4).
AT&T introduces Data Perks, where you can take surveys in return for free data
AT&T has introduced a new program called Data Perks where users can take surveys and complete other promotions in turn for data. All you have to do is download the Data Perks app, start taking surveys and completing other offers, and then you begin accruing data for taking these surveys.
For example, you might see a video promotion to watch, which will reward you some 100MB of data after watching the full 10 minute video. Other promotions might want you to fill out a survey from an advertiser, which will give you 25, 50, or maybe even 75MB of data.
AT&T says you can earn up to 1000MB of data during a single billing period. Obviously they couldn’t splurge and offer that extra 24MB of data to make it a gigabyte per month. That’d be going just a bit too far in the name of generosity. Another requirement is that you have a postpaid account with AT&T, prepaid accounts aren’t eligible to participate in Data Perks.
When it comes down to it, this isn’t really a great incentive. You’re completing time consuming surveys and watching lengthy ads, making it not even really worth your time–24MB here, 50MB here, and so on. It might be nice in wanting to avoid overages, but that’s about it.
What do you think of Data Perks? If you want to give it a try, hit the download link below.

Facebook’s mobile app will now have a better notification tab
Facebook has announced that they will be updating the current notification tab for their mobile app. On top of your normal notifications, you will now see a more useful, personalized list of cards such as friends’ birthdays and life events, sports scores and TV reminders. These notifications will be populated from pages you’ve liked, and upcoming events that you’ve joined.
You can also add other optional information that is tailored for you based on your location, if you have Location History enabled in the mobile app. This includes the following:
- Things happening around your community, like local events and news
- Updates on weather conditions and severe weather alerts
- Movies playing in theaters near you
- A list of nearby places to eat, with links to the places’ Facebook Pages and reviews
Each card will have an arrow to allow quick customizations of each item or category. Your current notifications setting will not be affected. This new update will begin rolling out today.
