64GB Motorola Nexus 6 on sale for just $369.99 through Expansys USA

Nexus-6-Google-press-render-2

That’s right, folks. Motorola’s 64GB Nexus 6 is on sale for just $369.99 through online retailer Expansys USA, indicating that a handful of new Nexus devices is just over the horizon.

The Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X is expected to be unveiled on September 29 at an event in San Francisco. That said, the Nexus 6 has been on sale quite a bit from different avenues, and it’s probably because retailers are trying to get rid of as much stock as possible to make way for the new devices.

This is a drastic price cut considering that the Nexus 6 when it first launched costed a whopping $699. Another important thing to keep in mind is that, despite the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P being on the way, the Motorola Nexus 6 is still an amazing smartphone. If you don’t mind not having the latest and greatest, this is a perfect device at such a low price point.

Anyone picking one up?

dbrand // Samsung Galaxy Note 5 skin review

No stranger to quality skins for your device, dbrand have done it once again with their Samsung Galaxy Note 5 skin in a variety of colors. They sent across their carbon fibre and gold metal skins for the Note 5 for us to review.

If there’s any testament to just how easy it is to apply a dbrand skin then it’ll be managing to apply the carbon fibre skin to my Galaxy Note 5 one-handed whilst juggling a newborn baby in my other hand. It was a simple, and first time, application without any air bubbles whatsoever. That’s thanks to the quality material these skins are made of and the easy application process.

My favorite of these two Note 5 skins is definitely the carbon fibre, which gives the Note 5 such a premium and unique look. What is especially good about applying a dbrand skin to the Note 5 is the feel that it then gives the Note 5 back after application. The new glass back of the device is especially slippery and a fingerprint magnet, so whilst it looks great, isn’t the most practical. The dbrand case changes this and gives it a nicer, grippier feel.

On the negative side of the Note 5 dbrand skin is the way it sits on the curved rear glass of the device; the carbon fibre skin I have applied doesn’t seem to sit flush with the curves and is slightly raised, which gives a bit of a sharp edge to the skin. I can see it’s not fully stuck down to the curves and do have to occasionally apply pressure to re-stick it. It by no means flaps about, but is certainly not fully flush to the edge. I plan on testing this out with the gold metal version to see if it exhibits the same behaviour.

Otherwise, dbrand have delivered another quality skin for the Note 5 that not only improves the look and feel of the device, but provides a lot more grip to the glass back. You can check out the full range of dbrand skins for the Galaxy Note 5 at the dbrand store.

Android 6.0 Marshmallow set to roll out October 5, according to Telus

nexus-6-first-impressions-13-of-21

According to Canadian mobile service provider Telus, Google is planning to roll out Android 6.0 Marshmallow to both the Nexus 5 and Nexus 6 beginning Monday, October 5th. We already know that Google is holding an event on Tuesday, September 29th, where the company will most likely announce its two new Nexus devices, the LG-made Nexus 5X and Huawei-made Nexus 6P. This is when we’ll get more availability details regarding the next version of Android as well.

As you can see from the attached screenshot below, Telus’ software update information appears to be three months old. However, MobileSyrup says this information has been just recently updated, but we might still want to take this information with a grain of salt.

Telus Android M software update

Even though this rumored roll out date is tentative, the date still fits in perfectly with how Google normally handles software updates with Nexus devices. Do note, however, that October 5th is when the update will likely begin rolling out to devices, so it may be a little while longer than that before all Nexus devices get the update.

Be sure to stay tuned to Android Authority for more information regarding Android 6.0 Marshmallow, new Nexus devices and more.

Runtastic shares workout data with Jawbone’s Up app

If you fancy Jawbone’s line of activity trackers and track your afternoon jog with Runtastic, you can now keep all of your stats in one place. Data gathered by Runtastic during your workout can be sent to Jawbone’s Up app where you can store info on nutrition, sleep, goals and more. Of course, Runtastic has its own wearables, including the new Moment analog watch. What’s more, Jawbone’s Up app no longer requires one of the company’s trackers to tally your daily details, just like Runtastic’s software, so there’s a few gadget/app combos that’ll work just fine with both Runtastic and Jawbone’s gear. To take advantage of the partnership, you’ll need Runtastic 6.3. Once you connect it with the Up app, all of your info will sync automatically.

freedompop

FreedomPop, the Los Angeles-based service provider that offers users “completely free mobile service”, is expanding its reach into other countries starting today. The MVNO has just announced that it’s bringing the popular “Basic 200” plan to the U.K., which gives users 200 minutes, 200 texts and 200MB of data each month for free. Well, it’s free after you pay the £6.99 fee for SIM delivery and activation, but that’s still a pretty great deal.

To help get more consumers in the region on board, FreedomPop is offering the first 10,000 users who sign up for the service a special plan that gets you 1,000 minutes, 1,000 texts and 1GB of data for free for the first month. If you’d like to keep this plan after your first month, it will cost you £9 per month. There’s also a £12 per month plan that will get you 2GB of data along with unlimited talk and text.

If you’d still like to go the free route but are looking for more data, you’ll be able to complete various third-party offers like taking surveys or downloading coupons for extra data. Additionally, you can share and receive data with your friends and family members who are also FreedomPop users, which will likely come in handy if you’re in a pinch.

FreedomPop plans to bring its service to seven other countries within the next year, and to over 20 markets by the year 2017.

New Samsung Gear VR cost $99 and works with any new Samsung phone

samsung gear vr $99Oculus had their Connect 2 livestream today where they announced they are once again partnering with Samsung on another Gear VR. The headset will cost only $99 and will ship just before Black Friday. The best part is it works with all of Samsung’s 2015 phones.

The previous Gear VR headsets got good reviews, but cost a lot and would only work with one phone, either the Note 4 or Galaxy S6/S6Edge.

This new version will also feature a new trackpad design that has a D-pad built into it. This will make it much easier to actually feel what you are doing. It has a few other changes too, such as being 22% lighter and more comfortable to wear.

It will ship this November in the US and will be out worldwide soon after.
