The NoPhone Zero offers the least advanced technology on the market at an aggressively low price
New phones are offering extremely high resolution screens, fingerprint scanners, and all kinds of other ridiculous, space-age technology in rectangular packages. The NoPhone Zero takes a different approach, though, offering the least advanced in available smartphone technology. In fact, the NoPhone Zero offers so few features and does so little, you’d be surprised to learn that it’s even a phone.
The NoPhone Zero is an incremental upgrade over the original NoPhone, with a slick, minimal design of straight, edged plastic. It’s about the size of any high-end smartphone in 2015, but there are no pesky buttons or screens to interfere with the experience.
The groundbreaking device is up for backing on Kickstarter with a reasonable $5 asking price and a cheap $2 shipping price. At that price, you could probably afford to buy yourself and several of your social media-addicted friends a few NoPhone Zeroes.

[Deal] Score a heavily discounted factory unlocked Galaxy S6 Edge from eBay
If you’re in the market for a new phone and don’t mind buying a slightly older model to save some cash, eBay is running a fantastic deal on a factory unlocked Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. It’s not the newer model with the bigger screen, but the original Edge is just a few months old and it’s still a powerhouse of a phone.
The deal is offering all three colors of the device for just $499, and it’s completely unlocked for any GSM carrier. Plus, it’s a new device, so no seller or manufacturer refurbished catches here.
The list price of the S6 Edge is $999, and although it doesn’t typically sell for that much anymore, the Edge still regularly goes for upwards of $600, so this is a decent discount, especially for how flexible of a phone it is.

Netflix for iOS Updated With Support for In-App Subscriptions
Netflix today announced that it’s adding the ability for users to subscribe to the video streaming service within its iPhone and iPad apps. The announcement was made in a new ad featuring two characters from Netflix show Orange is the New Black who discover and talk to Siri.
Like Hulu, Netflix is opting to not raise its subscription price for in-app subscribers to make up for the App Store’s 30/70 revenue split, with Apple getting 30 percent and developers getting 70. Other streaming services, like Spotify, pass the loss onto subscribers, raising the price for their service within the app.
However, it was reported in June that Apple was considering changing the 30/70 revenue split to benefit streaming services like Netflix and Hulu. Instead, Apple would discuss new commercial terms with media companies. On Apple TV, Apple is offering a more generous revenue split, with the Cupertino company taking 15 percent of revenue generated from HBO Now and other Apple TV apps.

iPhone 6s: Early Unboxing, Drop Test and Teardown
It’s September 25 in Australia, which means the first customers who pre-ordered the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus are now beginning to receive their shipments or are getting home from purchasing one at an Apple Store. Australians and those who went to Australia to receive their phones have now taken to YouTube to show off the device in unboxing videos, drop tests and more.
YouTube user Lachlan Likes A Thing unboxes a Rose Gold iPhone 6. The video was a part of Lachlan’s live stream of iPhone 6s coverage, and features him answering questions from his viewers. He also shows off the standard in-box iPhone accessories, which include the EarPods, wall charger and Lightning cable. Lachlan also unboxes a pink iPhone 6s silicone case, showing off what the phone looks like in the case.
YouTube channel TechSmartt got their hands on both the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus and subjected them to drop tests on a marble floor. The drop tests occur at three levels: from pocket height, from around 6 feet and from around 10 feet. Both phones hold up well, with host Keaton Keller noting the new 7000 series aluminum only suffered minor scratches. However, the iPhone 6s had its display shatter when it landed display down. The iPhone 6s Plus, which also fell on its display, did not shatter.
Franz Pirkl, another YouTube user, unboxed his Space Gray iPhone 6s and then proceeded to do a video teardown of the device. While the video doesn’t provide in-depth explanation of the insides of the new device, it does provide a look inside the device as well as individual parts like the new Taptic Engine.
The first Angry Birds Movie trailer is out and… it actually doesn’t look half bad
Like it or not, Angry Birds is making history by becoming the first mobile game to be adapted into a big-budget feature film. Yesterday Sony gave us our first look at the CGI animated movie, and it actually doesn’t look too awful. It comes across as a little bland, but nowhere near as mind-numbing as Minions.
The original mobile game developed by Rovio has over 2.8 billion downloads across various platforms, but their follow-up, Angry Birds 2, hasn’t seen anywhere near as much success as its forerunner. Maybe Rovio is hoping that the film, which hits theaters in May 2016, will respark the lagging popularity of the franchise. However, film adaptations of video games have a bad history of being just truly terrible (even the ones not directed by Uwe Boll), so the cards are stacked against our intrepid band of furious fowl.
The movie’s writer is Jon Vitti, the guy who wrote the screenplay for The Simpsons Movie and who has chops writing for King of the Hill and The Office. A slew of stars are attached to the project with everyone from Saturday Night Live’s Jason Sudeikis and Bill Hader, Josh Gad of Frozen fame, Danny McBride, and even the Game of Thrones crowd favorite Peter Dinklage.
Angry Birds the Movie seems to follow the story of Red, voiced by Sudeikis. Red looks like he may be attending anger management classes, and we get a glimpse behind the scenes at just what makes all these birds so damn angry. Game mechanics have been mixed into the character attributes (the character Bomb, for instance, literally explodes when startled), and the comedy leans hard on physical humor.
Altogether, it’s nothing to make you mark May 20th on your calendar or buy a bird suit in anticipation of a midnight showing, but it doesn’t seem like something I would mind being dragged to. The directors are both no-names making their directorial debut, but with Jon Vitti handling the script, how bad could it be? Right? Maybe I’m looking at this with too much of a glass-half-full perspective. What do you guys think?
Verizon will offer a yearly upgrade plan (but only for iPhones)
Verizon Wireless announced on Thursday that it will offer its customers annual iPhone upgrades should they purchase a new 6s or 6s Plus on Friday, September 25th. According to the company’s press release, everybody that’s already preordered on of the new iPhones is already enrolled in the Verizon Device Payment option. Customers that prefer to continue paying off their phones over two years are, of course, free to do so. This announcement follows a number of similar plans recently set forth by the wireless industry as well as Apple itself. Note that this program only applies to the latest iPhone models moving forward. If you’ve got an Android Nexus or and older iPhone 5, you’re out of luck.

More details emerge on Motorola’s upcoming Droid Turbo 2
The Droid Turbo 2 will be the successor to the original Motorola Droid Turbo. A new report from Phandroid says the new handset will include Moto Maker support for further customizing and a large capacity battery like its predecessor.
Motorola Droid Turbo 2 rumors and leaks are beginning to spread now that the Moto X Style has launched. According to recent leaks, the handset has code-name ‘Bounce,’ and leaks from @upleaks gave us some specs to expect beginning with a a 5.4-inch OLED display. Allegedly, the screen will be shatter-proof and feature a Quad-HD resolution. We are likely looking at the Snapdragon 810 chipset, 3GB of RAM, a 21MP rear-facing camera, a 5MP selfie camera and storage options beginning at 32GB. And of course, the large battery capacity that the Droid Turbo lineup is known for. Phandroid indicates this will be a 3,760mAh one. On top of this, users will get to further express themselves using Motorola’s customization tool called Moto Maker. Users can customize textures, colors, skins, engravings and more. It’s still unknown whether the handset will run Google’s new Android 6.0 out of the box. But time will tell.
The handset is expected to launch as a Verizon exclusive just like the Droid Turbo before it. We could see the handset announced on October 15, with a possible launch date of October 29. Anyone excited?

GrubHub, DoorDash, and Caviar all sued for failing to offer employee benefits
On-demand food service apps GrubHub, DoorDash, and Caviar are all being sued with separate lawsuits in San Francisco. The lawsuits are over employee benefits, claiming the services failed to offer employee benefits while still treating the workers as full-time. Failing to cover things like reimbursements for gas, parking and phone data.
Uber is another company that has been going through a similar lawsuit. The funny part is, the same attorney that is representing plaintiffs against Uber and Lyft are also representing the delivery drivers against GrubHub, DoorDash, and Caviar. GrubHub and DoorDash are large class action lawsuits, but Caviar is only on behalf of one driver.

The ‘world’s biggest’ 3D printer will build emergency houses
The design team at WASP (World’s Advanced Saving Project) will unveil what is being billed as the world’s largest 3D printer on Friday in Rieti, Italy. Dubbed the “Big Delta,” this enormous device stands roughly 40 feet tall with a 20 foot diameter. But despite its size, the Big Delta is extremely efficient and uses only 100 watts of power. Its oversized design allows the Big Delta to quickly and easily print low-cost disaster-relief housing. What’s more, it can do so using locally-sourced materials (read: dirt and mud) which also acts to minimize construction costs. The WASP team also foresees employing this printer for non-disaster-related home building. According to a company release, the Big Delta help accommodate the estimated 4 billion people worldwide that will lack adequate housing by 2030.
