Uber has just launched a brand new long-distance carpooling application called UberCommute. This service enables drivers to pick up as well as debark passengers en route to a destination and split the overall cost of the trip between them. The company has revealed that the facility is currently only available in Chengdu, China, for the time being, but is set to launch in other major cities around the world in the not-too-distant future.

From a driver’s perspective, registering for UberCommute is pretty much the same as singing up to the firm’s Lyft service. First, they will have to input their personal details for insurance purposes, then sign in to the app and enter the destination for their journey. Uber will then match passengers who are requesting trips in the same direction.
