Looking at the seller’s listing, a midnight blue, 32GB, unlocked Nexus 6 for $299 is a bargain, when you consider the handset cost upwards of $500 when it launched last year. Yes, Google is about to unveil two new Nexus devices – the LG Nexus 5X and Huawei Nexus 6P – but the Nexus 6 is certainly an impressive feature-rich smartphone and should be one of the first to get the new Android M operating system.

It’s worth noting that the seller specifically mentions this is the US variant of the handset and comes with both, GSM and CDMA radios. On paper, the handset supports all the LTE bands used by Verizon and Sprint but the seller specifically says this handset won’t work with those two networks.

There used to be an issue connecting your own devices to Verizon and Sprint’s CDMA networks but this has apparently been fixed; the seller specifically mentions the lack of support for these networks, which is worth keeping in mind if you’re thinking of buying this Nexus 6.

Interested to get this absolute bargain? Head over to eBay at the link below before the deal runs out!

Asus Zenfone Go launched in India for INR 7,999

asus_zenfone_go

Asus has managed quite a feat: in just two years, the company has become a force in the smartphone business. According to Counterpoint Research, Asus is one of the fastest growing smartphone brands in the world, alongside Chinese company Vivo.

Asus’ owes its solid growth to the well-priced Zenfone line, which has been especially successful in Asia. The latest entry to the series, Zenfone Go, has just launched in India, targeting the crucial entry-level segment.

The Zenfone Go comes with a quad-core MediaTek MT6580 SoC processor, 2GB of RAM, a 5-inch HD (1280×720 pixels) display and just 8GB of internal storage (expandable). Other specs include an 8MP rear camera, a 2MP front shooter, a 2,070-mAh battery, 3G connectivity, and Android 5.1-based Zen UI.

These specs are pretty basic, but at INR 7,999 ($120), the Zenfone Go is on par with or better than competitors in its price range, including Android One devices or the Micromax Yunique.

The Zenfone Go is now listed on Flipkart as Coming Soon, and will also be available through Asus’ brick and mortar presence in India, as well as other retailers. Coming in black, white, or red, the device offers 100GB of Google Drive storage as a freebie and one year of warranty.

Amazon India lists Nexus 5X, confirms storage, processor, color options and more

lg nexus 5x 2015 mint (3)

Google and its manufacturing partners seem unable (or unwilling) to contain the stream of leaks preceding the launch of Nexus devices. The Nexus 5X is the latest example, and today, we have more details to add to an already good picture.

Amazon India published product pages for the LG-made Nexus 5X in three color variants: Charcoal Black, Quartz White, and Ice Blue (confirming our recent exclusive report and a leak out of South Korea showing the blue version).

nexus 5x specs amazon

The listings are still available through direct links at the time of this writing, though it’s likely they will be removed soon.

The listings confirm some specs that have been rumored before, including the storage options. It looks like the Nexus 5X will indeed only be available in 16GB and 32GB, a decision by Google that has already created a wave of negative commentary. Is 16GB still enough in 2015, on a device without expandable storage? Perhaps in California, where people have generous data allowances, but how about the rest of the world?

The Nexus 5X will feature a 5.2-inch Full HD display, a 1.8GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 MSM8992  processor, 2GB of RAM, a 2700 mAh battery, a 12.3 MP main camera, and a 5 MP front camera. These are all specs listed in the three listings, and they seem very credible at this point. The Nexus 5X will be a rather heavy 177 grams at dimensions of 15.4 x 1 x 7.6 cm.

No price is given in the listing and the launch date is listed as September 29, when Google is scheduled to hold an event.

While these listing look pretty credible, there’s a chance they are inaccurate. But they do mesh in with many other reports. Let us know your thoughts!

Uber’s ride-sharing service is still suspended in France

Taxis Demonstrate Against UberPOP In Paris

It sounds like France hasn’t softened its stance towards Uber: the country’s Constitutional Court has decided uphold a law that led to the banning of UberPOP earlier this year. “POP” is the company’s ride-sharing service that uses cars owned and driven by non-professional drivers. Uber fought against authorities’ decision, but the court has rejected “all the arguments raised by the company and declares the contested parts of the law as conforming with the Constitution.” According to Reuters, it’s possible that this decision could also affect a separate criminal case filed against Uber executives Thibaud Simphal and Pierre-Dimitri Gore-Coty for illegally running the ride-sharing service.

Uber has had a tumultuous history in France: some of its cars were violently attacked last year, as taxi drivers protested its presence in the country to the point of blocking major airport roads. Even so, the company still runs a more traditional taxi-like service in the country, as well as in other parts of Europe where UberPOP is also banned, such as in Italy, Spain and Germany.

FreedomPop launches its free mobile plan in the UK

euphoric woman watching her...Price is high on the list of considerations when it comes to choosing a new mobile provider, but not so much with FreedomPop. The UK’s newest MVNO has launched today, and as promised, offers a completely free SIM-only tariff with 200 minutes, 200 texts and 200MB of 4G data per month (courtesy of Three’s network) — well, it’s free after you pay the £7 for SIM delivery and activation, anyway. That might sound a little too good to be true, but FreedomPop has tried and tested its freemium model in the US, with the UK being its first target for international expansion. The company is still in the business of making money, of course, which is where its paid mobile plans and value-added services come in.

Should the free “Basic 200” plan be a little light on allowances, there’s always the £9 per month tariff with 1000 minutes, 1000 texts and 1GB of data, or the £12 per month option with 2GB of data and unlimited minutes and texts. (By the way, the first month of the £9 plan is free for the first 10,000 sign-ups, but you’ll be charged on a rolling basis if you don’t cancel before the introductory period is over.) In addition to the premium tariffs, the provider offers bolt-on services that may tease a few more quid out of free and paid users alike, such as rollover data up to a 20GB limit (for £1.49 per month), international calling, visual voice mail, and usage alerts that tell you when your allowances are thinning out.

But why would you need usage alerts exactly? Well, because FreedomPop also makes money through overage charges: 1.5 pence per MB on the free tariff and 1 pence per MB on either paid plan. You’ll notice there’s no pricing for additional minutes and texts, but they aren’t needed, since FreedomPop is effectively a data-only service. All calls and texts are handled by FreedomPop’s Android and iOS apps, which may sound a tad unappealing. But, there are certain benefits to this, such as being able to add virtual numbers from other countries (£1.99 per month per number) so friends and family from out of town can call you at their local rate. Interestingly, there are also ways to earn more megabytes, no cash required. Users can complete surveys, download coupons, register for free trials and such to boost their monthly data allowances, and if they’re feeling particularly flush, can even gift some of that data to another FreedomPop subscriber.

Needless to say, FreedomPop is far from a traditional mobile provider, and there’s no arguing with the free “Basic 200” plan, as long as you keep within the allowances. And those 200 free megabytes could be the solution to an Instagram emergency come the end of the month, when you’ve munched through all the data afforded by your primary contract. For now, the free SIM-only plan is FreedomPop’s pièce de résistance, but the provider hopes to begin selling subsidized handsets before the end of the year, and bring more “compelling plans and services” to the UK in due course.

Press renders of the Nexus 6P, packaging for both Nexus devices leak

Tuesday was a huge day for Nexus fans. While we eagerly await the September 29th launch, the leaks have been coming fast and furiously. We know almost everything about the two new phones, the Huawei Nexus 6P and the LG Nexus 5X, and we’re now getting a better look at both the packaging for the devices and a brand new press render of the Nexus 6P thanks to our friends over at AndroidPolice.

Nexus 5x packaging

We’ve seen multiple rumors over the past few weeks that the new LG Nexus would be called the Nexus 5X but there was no hard evidence until now. As you can see, the packaging features a stylized X with 5X in the top left corner. We can also see that this packaging is for a 32 GB 5X. Rumors have been flying that we’ll only see 16 GB and 32 GB models for the more affordable device. This confirms we’ll see at least 32 GB but we hope for that’s the base storage with a 64 GB option also being offered.

Nexus 6P packaging

The Huawei Nexus 6P is now also confirmed to offer a 32 GB model. It’s been rumored that the Nexus 6P will be the first Nexus to offer a 128 GB model with 32, 64 and 128 GB options being offered. The box is a little more rounded on the corners than the Nexus 5X box and also shows a coastline within the stylized letter. Both boxes show a smaller preview picture of what you’ll be purchasing and confirm the camera bump on the Nexus 5X and the colored bar on the top of the back on the Nexus 6P.

Nexus 6P Press render

Here in the press render of the Nexus 6P we can see one of the most controversial choices for the new phone- the colored bar above around the camera and flash. There’s no news on whether there’s a special reason for the bar or if it’s just a style decision, but we assume the latter. We’re also seeing front facing speakers and the time on the phone, 6:00, confirms that the new Nexus will release with the newest version of Android, as all Nexus devices have.

While we do know a lot about the new devices, firm information on price has yet to be revealed. It’s been rumored that the smaller LG device will have a price tag between $300 and $400 while the big brother Hauwei device will climb a bit higher but remain affordable. The reveal event for the new Nexus devices is September 29th. Stay tuned to AndroidGuys.com for more coverage of the event and all of the devices that will be debuted.

EasyAcc DP100 Ultra Portable Bluetooth 4.0 Speaker (review)

“To hear is to believe”

EasyAcc provided me with the opportunity to review their Bluetooth 4.0 DP100 Ultra Portable speaker. “To hear is to believe” is a quote from their product description and it describes the DP100 perfectly. The EasyAcc is my first Bluetooth speaker I have ever tested that costs less than 25 dollars and all I can think about is how I wasted so much money on high-end speakers from the likes of Bose and Sony.  Having seen dozens of lower priced speakers perform at trade shows and electronics stores, my expectations were low. Speakers in this price range typically represent poor sound reproduction, battery-life and most of all build quality.

EasyAcc is going to radically change the bluetooth speaker market with the DP100 by forcing customers to expect more for their dollar.

EasyAcc DP100 build

The EasyAcc DP100 Ultra Portable Bluetooth 4.0 speaker is clearly a product built with pride and hard-work while keeping the customer first. Not that this should matter much, but even the packaging is great. The box is minimalist, but sturdy, and is the box this speaker deserves.

20150922_234904

Enough about the packaging. When I removed the speaker from the box I could feel the weight which felt heavy for the size. The weight in a portable speaker is actually a good thing as it usually means there is a large battery and large magnet to drive the speaker cone. A large battery equals long life and powerful sound output. Encasing the speaker is a tightly wrapped metal grill making the DP100 feel extremely durable. EasyAcc could have opted for cheaper material in cloth instead but they know that cloth is not a realistic material to protect the speaker.

Everything feels solid on the DP100. The speaker controls are on top of the device with microphones for phone call conversations. The three buttons are multi-functional giving this beautiful speaker a minimalist design.

Usage

I didn’t bother charging this speaker out of the box because I read in the instructions that the playback time is rated at 15-20 hours. In the instructions EasyAcc does instruct you to fully charge the speaker before initial usage. But after evaluating the build quality, my excitement got the best of me and I just had to use it. If you order one of these speakers, I dare you to try to wait for it to charge before using it.

Once I turned the DP100 on with the switch in the back, it immediately started to beep and the LED up top was blinking. I knew this meant it was looking for a Bluetooth device to connect to which is not common. Most speakers and accessories make you push a button dedicated to the Bluetooth connection. As minor as this may seem, I know this is great for people like my mom who can find pairing difficult. I connected the device to my phone and was rocking out immediately.

The first thing I noticed was how loud the speaker pumped out music. It’s loud, even louder than some portable speakers three times its size. The only downside, and I am being extremely picky was the mids were a little drowned out by the highs. The lows performed adequately for a speaker of this size, but at no point was the sound distorted to the loudness factor. The performance of the DP100 shocked me to my delight. It’s a rarity these days for me to be impressed by gadgets easily but that is exactly what the DPP100 did and as you can hopefully tell in my review that I am still excited.

The three buttons up top are a play button which serves as a way to play/pause your music in addition to answering/ending a phone call and a “-” and “+” symbol to rewind/fast forward as well as serving to adjust the volume.

20150923_005320

In two weeks of use while taking showers, hanging out at the beach, and writing while home for Androidguys I have charged the speaker one time and have not experienced a power down due to low battery. There is no battery indicator associated with the speaker which is something I would have liked.

Last but not least, I tested the speaker with a call to my mom. To her it sounded great, but when I did walk close to walls in my place she could hear the echo. That was my fault though for keeping the volume at maximum. I plan on using it at work as my speakerphone for my conference calls when I’m in the lab mixing chemicals.

EacyAcc also provides you with a synthetic microsuede bag to protect the speaker while you travel. Without a doubt, EasyAcc put the customer first when designing and building the DP100.

20150923_003020

What I liked

  • Superior build quality
  • Battery life
  • Sound reproduction
  • Loudness
  • Minimalist design
  • Bag for toting around town
  • Price

What I didn’t like

  • Lack of battery indicator
  • Muddled mid-range sound

Summary

Without hesitation I will call this the best speaker you can get for your money. Right now the EasyAcc DP100 is listed at Amazon.com for $21.95 with free Prime shipping. For the price, quality, sound reproduction and incredible battery life the DP100 is one heck of a steal.

I strongly suggest you pick one up if you’re looking for a Bluetooth portable speaker. If you disagree with my review after you gave the speaker a try, let me know in the comments. Don’t forget, “To hear is to believe.”

If you’re interested in learning more or making a purchase, check the speaker out at EasyAcc. Or check out the wide range of other speakers here.

Uber launches new carpooling service in China

Uber_Sydney_Surge_Pricing

Uber has just launched a brand new long-distance carpooling application called UberCommute. This service enables drivers to pick up as well as debark passengers en route to a destination and split the overall cost of the trip between them. The company has revealed that the facility is currently only available in Chengdu, China, for the time being, but is set to launch in other major cities around the world in the not-too-distant future.

From a driver’s perspective, registering for UberCommute is pretty much the same as singing up to the firm’s Lyft service. First, they will have to input their personal details for insurance purposes, then sign in to the app and enter the destination for their journey. Uber will then match passengers who are requesting trips in the same direction.

If you’re based in China and would like to give UberCommute a try, hit source link below.
