The Leaf ‘Plug ‘n Plant’ is an all-in-one hydroponic grow box
Growing weed is easy (it is a weed, after all), growing good weed is a lot harder. And growing top-shelf sticky-icky in the comfort of your own home has, until now, been an expensive and technical nightmare. But that’s where the Plug ‘n Plant system from Leaf comes in. This tableside grow box is completely self contained. It provides all the pumps, lights, fans and nutrients needed to raise a pair of cannabis plants and yield 4 to 5 ounces of high-test herb. What’s more, it includes a host of environmental sensors and an HD camera that push data (and a timelapse view of your plants) to your smartphone for easy and continuous condition tracking. The system is even semi-autonomous, automatically dispensing additional nutrients as the plants absorb them from the growing medium.
This technology doesn’t come cheap, mind you. The unit will retail for $1500 when it ships next summer and you’ll need to put down a $100 deposit if you even want to get your name on the list. You’ll also need a valid medical cannabis card if you live in one of the current 23 states where it is allowed (no card is necessary in any of the four states where it’s legal recreationally). Still, with ounces selling for $320 (at the Green Cross, at least) the machine should pay for itself within two harvests.

Peek behind the developers’ curtain with ‘SpyParty’ slider images
Most 3D games don’t begin life as gorgeous, fully animated, shaded and colored products. They start with concept art and placeholder images that allow developers to fine-tune the mechanics and build out a full experience. Sometimes, these placeholder characters are unrefined. Sometimes, they look like a weird hybrid between a Lego man and one of the original Sims. That’s the case for SpyParty, an intense game of one-on-one stealth, misdirection and sharpshooting that’s been in development for roughly eight years. And, looking at its original art, we do mean rough (though the OG characters are beloved by many early players). In a blog update, SpyParty creator Chris Hecker shows off how his game has changed since its placeholder days, in a set of images with sliders comparing old and new, fancy graphics provided by artist John Cimino.

CyanogenMod now supports more mid-range Huawei, Motorola phones
Cyanogen’s partnership with OnePlus may be over, but the company is still hard at work to make sure its namesake Android ROM will run on just about everything else. According to a new post on the company blog, its been working with device manufactures like Xiaomi, Motorola, Oppo and others to extend official support to a wider array of mid-range Android handsets — and it has a list of devices to prove it.
Specifically, Cyanogen says it now supports both the 2015 Moto E and G, Xiaomi’s Mi3w and Mi4 handsets, a new handset from up-and-coming European manufacturer WileyFox and a whole mess of phones (and variants) from Samsung, HTC and LG — all of which can be viewed and searched in Cyanogen’s officially-supported device wiki. This update also marks the first time since CyanogenMod 7 (we’re on 12 now, for those of you who are counting) that it’s been able to officially support a Huawei device. “It’s nice to see the company supporting the community ahead of the rumored Huawei Nexus,” Cyanogen wrote, noting support for the Huawei Honor 4 and 4x, Ascend Mate 2 and Snapto. “We’re expecting good things here.”
The company seems proud of its expanded support for mid-range devices, but says flagship handsets (teasing the HTC One M9, Galaxy S6 and LG G4) are still being worked on. Either way, it’s good news if you want an affordable phone with CyanogenMod, but aren’t quite ready to go all-in on OnePlus’ original handset.

UberCommute is the company’s new carpooling service for drivers
Uber has released yet another product called “UberCommute,” which the company describes as “carpooling at the press of a button.” Unlike the UberPool service that’s geared more towards passengers willing to share rides with strangers, though, this one is specifically for drivers going to certain locations who just want to split the cost of the trip. The San Francisco firm is launching Commute in its number one city, and surprisingly, it’s not a US metropolis: it’s Chengdu, China. Drivers merely have to log into the app and enter their destination, and it’ll show them passengers (using China’s UberPool app called People’s Uber+) going the same way, along with the fare they’ll earn from picking them up.
The company says it launched the product in the Asian country, because people there are looking for more and new ways to travel affordably. In addition, it could also be part of the company’s plan to overtake its biggest Chinese rival, Didi Kuaidi, which has been investing in Uber rivals in an effort to shift its focus elsewhere. If the service takes off in China, Uber hopes to make it available to drivers in more cities around the world.

Huawei Nexus 6P gets a press render leak ahead of announcement next week

We know that Google is hosting an event on September 29th that will likely announce the new Nexus smartphones, and today, we’re getting a good look at one of those devices courtesy of a press render. Android Police has managed to get a hold of a press image that shows us the Huawei Nexus 6P in all its glory, front and back. This will be our best look yet at the front of the device, though it’s always nice to see what the back of the finished device is going to look like too. From the looks of it, the Nexus 6P will look quite a lot like the out-going Nexus 6 from the front with its two front-facing speakers.
From the back of the device, we can clearly see the rather unusual looking camera at the top of the device. This is probably the first time in recent memory that any Nexus device has been leaked so comprehensively, to the point where almost nothing is going to be a surprise come the 29th next week – then again, we’re sure there’s more to this device than meets the eye, so we’re expecting Google to put on a good show.

Retail boxes for the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P break cover

It’s Nexus leak day apparently – I must have missed the memo. After getting our best look yet of the Nexus 6P, we’re now getting a squizz (Australian for “look”) at the retail boxes for the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P. Unlike the last group of Nexus boxes, the emphasis of these boxes is on the letter after the number, rather than the number itself – note the rather artistic “X” and “P” adoring the front of either box.
The boxes also pretty much confirm the naming of the devices, clearly emblazoned with the “5X” and “6P” naming that we’ve been starting to hear about. It would appear that this is a new naming nomenclature that Google is going to continue with its new devices, though we’re interested to know what the letters actually mean. Naturally, all should be revealed come September 29th when Google has scheduled an event to launch Android Marshmallow, but also presumably these two Nexus smartphones, a new Chromecast and a new Nexus Player as well.

Skreens puts all your entertainment in a single display
People are more connected than ever. Entertainment is anywhere we go – we have game consoles, cable, mobile devices, computers and more, but so far you can pretty much only enjoy one or two at a time. Picture-in-picture is available, but it is quite limited and Skreens wants to take things a step further and bring you the most advanced multi-screen technology you can find.
Skreens is a device that allows users to stream all their content to a single display. For example, you can hook it all up to your living room TV and simultaneously enjoy your PC, Apple TV, cable TV, satellite TV, Chromecast, PS4, Xbox One, Wii U and anything that works with HDMI. In essence, it’s picture-in-picture-in-picture-in picture… you get the point!
Users could easily play a video game while keeping track on their favorite sporting events, for example. Or you could even keep an eye on social networks while watching important events on TV. Furthermore, it’s also possible to resize, overlay, crop, adjust transparency and more. It’s all very simple and can be operated straight from the official app, which will be available for both Android and iOS.
But what about audio? Users will also get full control over sound. One can select a specific HDMI input for audio, which will then be transmitted to your sound system via S/PDIF. All other sound inputs will be streamed via WiFi to other devices. For example, it is possible to stream audio channels to another smartphone or tablet, so that individuals may listen to what they really want through their headphones.
There are two versions of the Skreens device: the NexusTwo and NexusFour. Both can be had in a ‘Pro’ variation, which includes a “universal remote in the Skreens Controller App for iOS or Android, streaming audio over Wifi/BT, Developer API, plug-in to OBS, and all of the streamer must-haves like video scaling, priority, cropping, chroma-key, transparency.”
The main difference between the NexusTwo and NexusFour is the amount of HDMI inputs these have, which is relative to their names.

This would be a great set-up for hard-core gamers, multi-taskers or big families. Really, it could be convenient for many of us. It’s like having a large screen on a computer, allowing you to have as many windows open as possible. The only difference is that the amount of screens doesn’t affect performance, as Skreens claims there is no lag here. Add in the tablet controls and you truly have a inner. Are any of you signing up?
Huawei Nexus 6P shows up in newly leaked high-resolution press render
Earlier we reported on leaked images of the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P retail packaging, and now the Nexus 6P seems to have just appeared in a newly leaked high resolution press render.
This press render comes by way of sources close to Android Police, and it seems to be the same device that leaked a couple of days ago, showing a black bar across the top of the device. The phone is expected to sport a massive 5.7-inch 1440p display, according to Android Police, along with an array of other impressive specs.
As you can see, around the back of the device under the black bar is a fingerprint scanner. We’re not sure what the entire purpose of the black bar is just yet, but there’s obviously a camera and flash on the left of it. However, there’s no telling what the mirror does, if anything.
We’re only a week away from Google’s San Francisco event, where the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P are expected to be announced. It’s only a matter of time before we see the Nexus 5X in all of its glory now.

Tons of new devices have officially been added to the Cyanogenmod family
Cyanogenmod has officially expanded support for several new devices from different manufacturers, expanding the list of phones that will support Cyanogenmod releases. This doesn’t necessarily mean that all of these devices have a stable build ready right this second, but they’ll be supported with future releases.
There are some heavy hitters that you’d expect, including devices from the likes of Samsung, HTC, and LG, which cover some specific international versions, but other devices from Huawei, Oppo, and Xiaomi are making the cut. Even some obscure phones, like Smartfren’s own CM-powered device and WileyFox’s European devices, will be supported going forward. It’s a pretty inclusive list that fills in what were previously niche gaps in Cyanogenmod coverage.

Action Launcher updated with several new features and enhancements
Action Launcher 3 has been updated to version 3.6, and it’s brought tons of new features along with it. The biggest new addition is Quickfind, which is designed to make finding apps in your app drawer significantly faster. If you have tons of apps installed on your device, it’s a huge improvement over browsing through pages and pages of icons.
Quickfind works very similarly to Google’s implementation of simply searching for an app by typing in what you’re looking for. The functionality is the same, but it excels in speed. The feature is typically available by tapping the search bar at the top of your app drawer, but you can also double tap or swipe the all apps button on your home screen to pull up Quickfind with the keyboard out so you can get straight to searching. It also works for widgets, interestingly enough.
There are few other features included as well, including some new home screen transition effects and the option to pin your most used apps to the top of your action bar, plus the usual stability tweaks and fixes that are present in just about every app release and update ever.
