Monument Valley developer Ustwo Games creates ‘Land’s End’, a virtual reality experience exclusive to Samsung’s Gear VR

If you’ve played Monument Valley before, you might be interested in this new title coming from the same developer, Ustwo Games. Land’s End is a first-person virtual reality adventure game that’s been designed exclusively for Samsung’s Gear VR headset.

It’s certainly a risky move creating a title for an accessory that has a limited audience. And interestingly enough, it didn’t even start out as a virtual reality game, according to Peter Pashley, Ustwo’s technical director. You can find out more about that story in Engadget’s interview with Pashley.

Land’s End is a first-person virtual reality adventure game that takes on elements of classic point-and-click games. Engadget calls it a “look-and-stare adventure” due to how it functions in virtual reality. You move your head around to look at the scenery, stare at a certain point, and you begin moving.

Ustwo Games outlines the title as a “adventure through spectacular landscapes to awaken a lost civilization.” And if it’s anything like Monument Valley, it’ll be a beautiful game. It’ll be available on October 30. No pricing details have been released yet.

For those of us that have a compatible Samsung phone, I guess it’s time to pick up a Gear VR!

oneplus_2_official_angled

While most of us are still patiently waiting for invites to buy the OnePlus 2, there are some lucky owners whose handsets have already begun receiving Oxygen OS 2.1 updates. The new update brings some much needed changes such as manual camera mode and RAW support for third party apps in addition to some bug fixes.

According to the announcement post on the Chinese company’s official forum, the OxygenOS 2.1.0 will reach only a small number of OnePlus Two users today, while a broader rollout will commence tomorrow. The update is going to be pretty exciting for photography enthusiasts, who will now have more control options with the addition of manual camera mode. Also, the RAW support is now available for some third party camera apps.

OnePlus has also fixed some operational lags that users were facing in turning on and off the handset’s airplane mode, and compatibility issues with some popular third party apps. After the update, users will also notice that they can now adjust the color tone of their screen’s display using a new color balance slider. The new update also brings Exchange support.

The OnePlus 2 features a 5.5-inch 1080p display, Snapdragon 810 CPU, 4GB of RAM and 13-megapixel primary camera. On the software front, it runs Oxygen OS based on Android 5.1.

Get an Android Developer Nanodegree in India with Udacity

Android_One_Aquaris A4.5 (6)Google is introducing a new Android developer course that partners with Udacity where students in India can earn a Nanodegree. The degree is to help new “developers learn new skills and advance their careers in a few months.”

The courses are taught by expert Google instructors from the Google Developer Relations team. It also includes project reviews, mentorship and career services from Udacity.

India has more than 3 million software developers and is the second largest developer population in the world. However, the apps created there are still behind many other countries and this program is trying to change that.

Today, only less than 2% of  apps built in India feature in top 1000 apps globally and our goal is to raise this to 10% in next three years.

The Udacity Android Nanodegree program is open starting today. The program will take 6-9 months to finish and cost Rs. 9,800 per month with Udacity refunding 50 percent of the tuition once completion.

Google has also partnered with Tata Trusts to give away 1000 scholarships, also available starting today. Please visit https://www.udacity.com/india for more information.
