Google to reportedly show off two Nexus devices on September 29th
Google users are about to be very happy customers, if this report from CNET is found to be true. According to the report, Google will introduce the new Nexus device(s) on September 29th. Yep, that’s right, Google may be showing off TWO new Nexus phones, instead of only one.
Rumors have been flying around the next device in the traditional Nexus lineup, with reports coming everywhere that this device will be manufactured by the folks over at Huawei. There are other reports that have been leaked with information regarding an updated Nexus 5, dubbed the Nexus 5 2015. The Nexus 5 2015 would more than likely be manufactured by LG since that’s who made the first (and only one to date).
If these reports are true, and we not only get a new Nexus 6, but the updated LG Nexus 5, people will go nuts. Maybe not literally, but I would say that any pre-orders would be sold out within minutes, if not seconds.
One more interesting point to think about is where Google will price these devices. With more and more companies making competitively priced devices, it will be interesting to see where Google decides to place these devices at. It would be safe to assume that neither of these devices would top the $500 range, but stranger things have happened.
Let us know in the comments below what you think about this report, and whether you’re excited to get your hands a new Nexus device. Additionally, let us know which device you would prefer, if the rumors of the Huawei Nexus and updated Nexus 5 come to fruition.

A look at the Sony Xperia Z5 series announced at IFA 2015 today
Just as we reported yesterday, Sony have launched a series of devices under their Xperia Z5 branding at IFA 2015 today. The trio of devices are widely welcomed as the long-awaited upgrade to the popular Xperia Z3, and the range of devices seem to offer something for everyone. These are split into the Z5, Z5 Premium, and Z5 Compact, each with their own different design profiles and specifications, as listed below.
Xperia Z5 Premium
First up is the Xperia Z5 Premium that features the worlds first 4K display on a smartphone that delivers a unprecedented 806ppi, equating to 2160 x 3840 pixels, on a 5.5-inch display. Powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810, the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium also comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, coupled with a 23-Megapixel Exmor RS sensor rear-camera that promises 0.03s focusing times with 192 autofocus points.
Xperia Z5 Compact
The baby Xperia Z5 has a 4.6-inch display with the same camera as all Xperia Z5 series devices, but has a lower amount of RAM at 2GB, as opposed to the 3GB of the rest. The Snapdragon 810 processor is powered by a 2,700mAh battery with 319 PPI.
Xperia Z5
Finally is the upgrade to the Z3 we were all waiting for, and it comes in the form of the Xperia Z5. With a 5.2-inch display, the Xperia Z5 equates to 401 PPI. The 2,900mAh battery again powers the Snapdragon 810 processor and 3GB of RAM.
You can see a full rundown of the specs below.

Gigaset enters mobile market with three new Android phones
Gigaset, a little-known German manufacturer primarily focused on home phone systems, has jumped into the mobile market at IFA this week with the launch of three new phones, all powered by Android. It looks like the company is starting off with an emphasis on design and pricing, with the three devices set in different price ranges. Gigaset’s new devices all fall under the “ME” title, which indicates that this could be their flagship line of devices here in the States.
First up is the Gigaset ME, a mid-range device that actually has a few surprises under its sleeve. Here’s a full list of specs, provided by Gigaset:
- 5-inch full HD 1080p display
- Snapdragon 810
- 3GB of RAM
- 32GB of internal storage (with microSD expansion up to an additional 128GB)
- 16MP rear camera
- 8MP front camera
- USB Type-C port
- 3,000 mAh battery
- UV sensor, heart rate monitor, pedometer, and fingerprint scanner
All this comes in a nice little package that will cost £349 (around $528 U.S. dollars).
Next we have the Gigaset ME Pure, which looks like a lower-spec version of the ME mentioned above. The ME Pure will hit U.S. shores with the same display, but with a downgraded Snapdragon 615 processor, 2GB of RAM, and only 16GB of internal storage. There’s a 13MP camera around back and the same 8MP shooter on the front. Despite the processor drop, users are getting a bigger battery at 3,320 mAh. The Pure will also have a fingerprint sensor, but it lacks the heart rate monitor found in the standard ME. The ME Pure is aimed at the midrange crowd, so it isn’t surprising that it comes in at an affordable £249 ($393 U.S. dollars).
Last but not least, the Gigaset ME Pro looks to be the largest device in the line, with a 5.5-inch full HD 1080p display and a larger 4,000 mAh battery. Other than these two specs, the Pro falls in line with the standard ME, sporting the same cameras, processor, and memory. Because of the larger screen and battery, the ME Pro will be the most expensive of the group, coming in at a cool £399 ($618 U.S. dollars).
Unfortunately for Android enthusiasts in the U.S., these devices will only be sold in Europe and China for the moment. Gigaset hasn’t announced a U.S. launch as of yet, but hopefully they will be bringing these devices to American shores soon.

Samsung announces SLEEPsense, a device to monitor sleep and control home appliances
We have sleep monitors that we wear around our wrist, forehead or chest. They have the ability to measure our quality of sleep and generate reports for us when we awaken.
Samsung on the other hand, has the SLEEPsense sleep sensor they just announced at IFA. It is a small and flat sensor you place under your mattress to track sleep, movement and sleep patterns.
Where the SLEEPsense goes one step further is having the ability to control other devices around the home through the “Internet of Things(IoT).” As a refresher, the IoT are objects like air conditioners, refrigerators, and other physical devices that are connected to a network and can be controlled through sensors and commands.
This is super cool because not only can SLEEPsense monitor your sleep, but it can help you stay asleep by turning on your air conditioner if it decides the house is too hot for optimal sleeping conditions. It can also turn off your TV if it senses that you have dozed off so that the noise and light doesn’t wake you up later in the night. Now if it could get your neighbor’s dog to shut up I bet everyone would buy one. Nonetheless, controlling your devices around the home to help you stay asleep is quite an accomplishment.
The Samsung SLEEPsense has also been approved by the FDA for tracking vital signs and they have built in heart rate monitoring and breathing rates. I could see scenarios where this would be great for monitoring babies for SIDS or people with diseases such as emphysema, or sleep apnea.
According to Sammyhub the SLEEPsense will be released to South Korea first with other countries to follow. I would the US would be on the list since it was approved by the FDA.

Lenovo Chromebook 100S announced, just $179

For those with basic computing needs, a Chromebook can be a great way to get online or to type up a report without spending a lot of money. While gamers and power users will generally need considerably better specs than you’d get from such a device, there are certainly a number of people who can benefit from a sub-$300 laptop.
Have an even tighter budget? The new Lenovo Chromebook 100S could be the perfect match for you, coming in at just $179. Not bad for a nice, though basic, looking laptop.
For under $200, you get an Intel Celeron N2840 powered Chromebook and 32GB on-board storage and an 11.6-inch HD display. RAM goes up to 4GB, but that will obviously raise the price tag at least a little bit. Lenovo also offers USB 3.0 and all the ports you’d expect, as well as eight hour battery life, all in a package that comes in at around 2.6 pounds.
While you shouldn’t expect top-of-the-line performance, even for a Chromebook, if you don’t need tons of tabs open in Chrome at once, the spartan Chrome OS should still provide a capable experience that is more than respectable when you consider just how cheap this laptop is.
The Lenovo Chromebook 100S will arrive in October via select retailers. What do you think, anyone planning on picking this one up?
Acer is making a phone with a deca-core processor for gaming
Acer is pushing all the limits at IFA 2015 this year. They already announced a new insane gaming tablet and now a gaming phone to go with it. Both the phone and tablet look awesome with a black and red color scheme.
The phone is called the Predator 6, and where it really shines is the specs. The Predator 6 is for hard core gamers and has to have the power for them, which it does. We don’t know all the details just yet, but it will feature a MediaTek deca-core (10-core) processor with 4GB of RAM and dual haptic feedback motors for rumble. It also has a large 6″ HD display and obviously runs Android. The camera is 21-megapixel and it rounds things off with dual front facing speakers. Since it was just announced, there is no word on pricing or a release date at the moment.

Acer announces four new Android smartphones
At IFA 2015, Acer has announced several new smartphones to be released this fall all along the pricing spectrum, including four devices powered by Android 5.1. Acer says all of their new smartphones will feature a new technology called Acer BluelightShield which is designed to limit users’ exposure to blue light from their screens. All of the devices will also get DTS Studio Sound and their camera app will provide independent exposure and focus adjustments. Acer is also including three different layout options for their user interface, including a Basic Mode designed for kids. To further protect children, Acer is also offering a Kids Center protected environment.
The top of the line phone being released by Acer is the Acer Liquid Z630. The Z630 gets a quad-core 1.3GHz processor with 2GB of RAM to help drive a 5.5-inch full HD IPS display. Acer has packed in a whopping 4000 mAh battery in the Z630. Both front- and rear-facing cameras will be 8MP units and the front lens will be capable of recording 1080p video. A Liquid Z630S version will also be offered with an octa-core processor, 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage. The Z630 pricing will start at €199 ($224 USD).
The mid-tier of the model line is the Acer Liquid Z530, powered by a 1.3GHz MediaTek processor and 1 or 2 GB of RAM. The Z530 gets a 5-inch HD IPS screen and an 8MP front facing camera for selfies. Pricing for the Z530 will start at €149 ($167 USD).
The final two devices fall in the budget tier. The Liquid Z330 is a 4.5-inch display unit that comes with 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of internal storage powered by a Snapdragon 210 processor. Acer equipped the Z330 with 5MP cameras front and back. The Liquid Z320 gets a Qualcomm 8209 processor, a 4.5-inch screen and 1 GB of RAM along with only a 2MP front-facing camera. All of the new Acer phones will be available in EMEA starting in September for the Z630, in October for the Z530 and Z330, and later this year for the Z320. You can read the full press release from Acer below.

Apple Likely to Introduce iPad Pro and iPad Mini 4 at September 9 Event
Along with unveiling the next-generation iPhones, the revamped Apple TV, and new Apple Watch Sport bands at its September 9 event, Apple is also likely planning to introduce the updated iPad mini 4 and the much-anticipated larger-screened iPad Pro, reports 9to5Mac.
While the event will see the debut of the 12.9-inch tablet, Apple does not plan to ship it until November, following late October pre-orders. A September introduction for new iPads is not in line with Apple’s past iPad updates, which have come in October for several years running, but Apple may be introducing the iPad Pro several months early in order to give developers time to create apps for the new device.
Apple also plans to introduce the iPad mini 4, a significant update that brings the 7.9-inch tablet in line with the existing iPad Air 2. It appears the 9.7-inch iPad Air 2 may not be updated in 2015, with Apple instead focusing its attention on the iPad Pro and the iPad mini 4 and pushing the iPad Air 2 update back to 2016.
New Macs are also not expected to be included at Apple’s September event, and with the iPads being debuted this month instead of next month, it’s unclear if we will see two fall Apple events in 2015 as we have in past years.
Today’s report warns that while Apple’s plan is to unveil the iPad Pro at the September 9 event, the company could choose to delay its introduction until October.
In addition to a larger 12.9-inch display, the iPad Pro is expected to include an A9 processor, 2GB of RAM, a Force Touch-enabled stylus, and perhaps USB 3.0 ports that will support peripheral devices. The tablet will run iOS 9.1, an update to iOS 9 that will debut in November when the iPad Pro launches.
Apple to Debut New Apple Watch Sport Bands at September 9 Event
At its upcoming iPhone-centric event on September 9, Apple will debut new Apple Watch Sport bands in a variety of new colors, MacRumors can confirm. News of the new bands was shared by 9to5Mac this morning, and we’ve also been hearing similar rumors about Apple’s plans to introduce additional band options.
It is not clear what colors Apple is planning to introduce, but it’s possible the company will focus on darker colors to complement the neon-like shades of the existing Apple Watch Sport bands, which come in bright pink, green, and blue, along with black and white.
Apple has already produced Sport Bands in additional colors, which were initially shown off by Jony Ive at the Milan Design Week in April shortly before the Apple Watch launched. At that event, he displayed a selection of bands in red, orange, yellow, blue, and several nude shades.

Apple has also provided several celebrities with custom Apple Watch Sport bands in unique colors. Former professional rugby player Will Carling received a red Apple Watch Sport band, while director J.J. Abrams was given a custom navy blue Sport band.
Along with introducing new Apple Watch bands, iPhones, and the revamped Apple TV, Apple may also announce sales of the Apple Watch in additional countries, including Austria, Denmark, and India. We’ll also hear more about watchOS 2 at Apple’s iPhone event, with Apple providing a launch date for the new operating system update.
