Asus Zenwatch 2 will be offered in two sizes starting at $170, coming in October

Asus first unveiled the successor to the ZenWatch at Computex earlier this year, but at IFA 2015 they are finally giving us the rest of the details such as pricing and availability.
The ZenWatch 2 will be heading to select markets in October with two different configurations, a larger 49mm variant with a 1.6-inch display or a 45mm variant with a 1.45-inch display. The former of these will cost you €169 ($190), with the smaller version set at €149 (roughly $170).
Aside from the display and overall size, both watches have the same specs including AMOLED displays, a Snapdragon 400 processor, 512MB RAM, 4GB storage, IP67 water resistance, a “over two days” of battery life with ambient operating mode. Charging the ZenWatch 2 will also be easier than ever thanks to a magnetic connector that supposedly can get the watch to 50% power in just a little over 30 minutes.
The ZenWatch 2 will be available in silver, gunmetal, or rose gold with several different interchangeable straps also on offer. The larger variant will utilize 22mm straps, the smaller will use 18mm.

Watch a wild light show controlled by textile punch cards
German artists from Lab Binar have created an elaborate light show exhibition set in an abandoned textile factory. It’s aimed at showing the “schizophrenia” of the textile industry — the beauty of fabrics versus the brutality of making them. The trippy production (below) was created for a textile museum in Auburg, Germany, and is divided into two parts. The first features a noisy score using samples of the original weaving machines and staccato, black and white projected images. The second, set to Kraftwerk-style synth music, shows colorful fabrics created in the factory between 1806 and 1988.
The production methods even complement the two styles. In the first, the projectors are controlled by the original punch cards used to manufacture towels in the factory, while the second, more gentile half leaned on modern digitization methods. (Punch cards were used to control “Jacquard” textile looms as early as 1801, and inspired Charles Babbage’s analytical engine.) By contrasting the harsh with the pleasant, the team aimed to show that “conditions for the workers have been and still are pretty questionable… though far away for most of us.” We did mention they were German, right?

ASUS’ spikey router promises the ‘world’s fastest WiFi’
If you wanted an insane looking router with an almost as-insane boast, then say hello to ASUS’ new router. Touting it as the best for gaming, 4K streaming and smart home networking, the RT-AC5300 router will apparently give speeds that are 67 percent faster than first-gen, tri-band routers. It’s calling it the world’s fastest WiFi. ASUS is promising up to 1Gbps connections over 2.4GHz and up to 2.167Gbps on each of the two 5GHz bands — that’s a lot of data. Google just got a new router challenger.

IFA 2015: Acer announces the gaming-centric Acer Predator 6 smartphone
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
And we’re off! Acer has already completed its press conference to kick off IFA 2015, and one of the most interesting devices they announced is the Acer Predator 6 – a gaming-centric smartphone. There aren’t many smartphones in this day and age that can claim to be for gaming first and foremost, but Acer thinks this is a thing gamers want and alongside its Predator 8 tablet – which we saw announced at Computex earlier this year – announced the Predator 6.
Much like the Predator 8, the Predator 6 smartphone will also rock four speakers to presumably enhance the gaming experience, and also boasts haptic feedback to add vibrations while you’re playing games. The device will also have the new MediaTek Helio X20 processor (which has 10 cores!) and 4GB RAM. Even though it has unnecessary (and totally badass) edges everywhere, the Predator 6 still has sensible smartphone features like a 21MP camera. Hopefully we’ll be seeing more of the Predator 6 as the week goes on and more people get their hands on the device.

Want to know what Google’s new app icons are going to look like?
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
Google surprised us earlier today by announcing a change to the design of its logo, however knowing Google, the change is likely going to affect every facet of the company, including Android and its Google services. We’ve already seen how the update is going to affect the Google App (i.e. Google Search) but that’s left us wondering how Google’s new app icons are going to look. Luckily, Google has already started updating the icons for its apps on the web and we’ve got a few of them screenshotted below:
As you can see, most of the apps have changed to replace the old lower-case “g” with the new upper-case “G”, though the Google+ icon has been made over quite substantially. We’re expecting quite a few of these new icons to hit Android devices in the next few weeks so keep your eyes peeled for updates.

OPPO Find 9 tipped for September 19th launch

OPPO has been keeping information about its next flagship smartphone very close to its chest, but an invite posted by Weibo tipster @Kjuma suggests that OPPO may be planning to unveil a new Find 9 smartphone at a launch event on September 19th.
The announcement is said to take place in Beijing, where we could see OPPO’s first major flagship release since last year’s Find 7. That being said, the company has released a number of rather good, cost effective smartphones already this year, including the OPPO R7 Plus and the R5s.
Not too much is known about the OPPO Find 9, but there are a few specification rumors floating around. The Find 9 may ship with a 5.5-inch 2K display, 4GB of RAM, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 SoC, 21 megapixel camera, and a fingerprint scanner, although this is all speculation at this point. We will just have to wait a few more weeks for some official details.
What specifications would you pack inside your dream OPPO Find 9?
