HTC Zoe App update hits the Play Store
A new update for HTC’s Zoe app has rolled out in the Play Store for select HTC One users. This update will include a new smart trim feature and longer clips.
The new smart trim tool allows users to shorten their video clips within the app. HTC has also raised the limit of seconds per Zoe from 30 seconds to a whopping 3 minutes or 180 seconds. For people who use the app on a daily basis and shoot Zoe’s all the time, this will be a welcome enhancement. You can download the update at the link below.

AT&T LG G4 Stagefright update rolling out to consumers
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
The nasty little vulnerability labeled Stagefright took center stage not that long ago. It left approximately 95% of all Android device owners susceptible to attack on their devices from would be hackers via a MMS message, or picture message. Needless to say, a lot of people were worried about it as it would give the attacker full control over their devices. Since its discovery manufacturers and carriers alike have been working to plug the hole as quickly as possible. Just the other week AT&T pushed a patch out for the HTC One M9 and today they have begun rolling the patch out to their LG G4 devices.
The OTA that is rolling out doesn’t offer up anything else beyond being labeled as including “Device security improvements.” Although, in this case, that is a welcomed thing. The file is labeled as software version H81010I and weighs in at just 46.7MB’s. You will still want to make sure you have well over 50% battery life, a solid Wi-Fi connection and some time to let it install. Being so small, it shouldn’t take but a few minutes. If you don’t see the update pending in the notifications, you can navigate to Settings > General > About Phone > Update Center > Software Update. It still might not be presented to you, but it is coming.

Google Maps v9.14: improved Navigation UI and ‘Popular times’ charts added

The Google Maps team seems to be pretty busy lately. It has been only about a week since version 9.13 hit the Play Store, and today we are already starting to see v9.14 hitting Android smartphones. The latest update to Maps brings forth a couple main changes to the application. A revamped interface will help you better plan your trips, and the new ‘Popular times’ chart will keep you posted on the best times to hit up your destination of choice.
Let’s start off with the new Navigation UI, shall we? The design of said section is likely the biggest change we have seen coming to the Google Maps app in a while. Upon requesting a route, the user will be presented with a large map, as opposed to the small thumbnail that really didn’t help much in the past. The different modes of transportation have been moved right below the location fields, making them more accessible and informative, as they also show the travel time without having to access each option.

#gallery-1 .gallery-caption
margin-left: 0;
/* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Those who need to access more details about trips will also enjoy the new pull-up function, which can be accessed from the route query. This section will display information on toll roads, elevation, accidents, turn-by-turn details and more. Overall, the application has been redesigned to leave more significant information within closer reach.
Planning a trip is not only about routes or immediate traffic data, though. Sometimes you want to take your drive at a later time, and this is what the new feature ‘Popular times’ is all about. Google can predict how busy a location will get depending on the time, taking into account previous data from their servers. Just hit up the business details card and a chart showing you all the details will show up.
Want to grab the new app? Remember these updates usually roll out periodically, so it may not show up for you just yet. Those really itching to test out the new features can download the APK file here. Otherwise, just wait around and hit the comments to let us know what you think about this update. Will either of these improvements ease your specific traveling woes?

Sale of buried Atari cartridges nets over $107,000
The never-ending saga of the Atari 2600 E.T. cartridges that were famously buried (and later unearthed) in Alamogordo, New Mexico continues to benefit the small town. Last November, a selection of games (including E.T., Asteroids and Missile Command) that were recovered in the excavation were put up for sale on eBay, and now we know just how much cash they generated. According to the Alamogordo News, the game sales totaled $107,930.15, with more than $65,000 going directly to the town. In addition, the Tularosa Basin Historical Society received over $16,000 while more than $26,000 was spent on shipping and other expenses. A total of 881 cartridges covering 60 different titles were sold overall; a copy of E.T. was the highest single sale at $1,535.
This isn’t the last of the buried games, either; there are still more cartridges from the dig floating around. One hundred went to the company that made a documentary about the excavation, and 23 were donated to museums. But there are still 297 cartridges that Joe Lewandowski, the man who spearheaded the project, is holding on to — he’s thinking that he might put them on sale if and when another film about the burial comes together. Lewandowski does have plans for a second movie, but for now he’s going to advise Alamogordo on how to spend the money he earned for it. “The $65,000 is yours,” he said at a town meeting last week, “you can do what you want with it but I don’t want to see it go to pot holes or sewer lines.”

There goes the neighborhood: ‘Black Ops 3’ brings back Nuk3town
Activision announced on Monday that Nuk3town, the single most popular map in the Call of Duty franchise’s entire history, will be available on CoD: Black Ops 3. Anybody that pre-orders BO3 for the PS4, XBone or PC will receive a download code that unlocks the legendary map when the game hits store shelves on November 6th. Nuk3town made its debut back in the first Black Ops game and returned as Nuk3town 2025 for BO2.
“The Nuketown maps have a special place in Call of Duty multiplayer history and we can’t wait to build upon that heritage in Black Ops III,” said Mark Lamia, Studio Head of Treyarch, which developed the game. “We carefully adapted the design of the map to make sure that it fit with our new movement system, but to also make sure that we retained the spirit and the fun that made fans fall in love with it in the first place.” So stow that sniper rifle and equip your fastest firing loadout because this nuclear neighborhood is about to see some serious action.

Android Wear makes its debut on iOS
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
There were hints, rumors and leaks that all pointed to Google working to bring Android Wear support to iOS device. Everyone can stop hoping and dreaming as Google has announced today that the app is now available on Apple iPhone 5, 5c, 5s, 6 and 6 plus so long as they are on iOS 8.2 or newer.
- Get your info at a glance: Check important info like phone calls, messages, and notifications from your favorite apps. Android Wear features always-on displays, so you’ll never have to move your wrist to wake up your watch.
- Follow your fitness: Set fitness goals, and get daily and weekly views of your progress. Your watch automatically tracks walking and running, and even measures your heart rate.
- Save time with smart help: Receive timely tips like when to leave for appointments, current traffic info, and flight status. Just say “Ok Google” to ask questions like “Is it going to rain in London tomorrow?” or create to-dos with “Remind me to pack an umbrella.”
Google also makes mention that the release of the iOS compatible app works with the LG Watch Urbane and will be supported by all future Android Wear devices, including the Huawei Watch they used for the promo image. (below) Don’t fret though, ASUS and Motorola are in the mix as well. Although I have heard that the current line of Android Wear devices, including the Moto 360
, G watch R, Gear Live, ZenWatch
and others are off the table. However, Droid-life does have it working with the Moto 360 that is sporting the latest software and Android Wear v1.3.
This is really a huge thing for Google and for Android Wear watch manufacturers as well as developers. Getting these watches into the hands on billions on the other side of the os spectrum is only going to boost sales and bring more people to the party. Any dual weilders out there happy to see this, or have already tried to get their watch up and running with an iOS device? Let us know so others can know as well.

Apple Reportedly Exploring Producing Original TV Shows
Apple has been having early discussions with Hollywood executives about producing original video programming in a bid to potentially compete against companies like Netflix, Amazon and Hulu, according to a new report from Variety.
Sources indicate the Cupertino, Calif. colossus has held preliminary conversations in recent weeks with executives in Hollywood to suss out their interest in spearheading efforts to produce entertainment content. The unit putting out the feelers reports into Eddy Cue, who is Apple’s point man on all content-related matters, from its negotiations with programmers for Apple TV to its recent faceoff with Taylor Swift.
It’s currently unclear how large Apple’s ambitions and commitment to producing original video content are, as sources have told Variety contradictory things about the Cupertino company’s plans. One source says Apple wants to create development and production departments that could create long-term content like Netflix does with original TV shows and movies. Another source says Apple is “flirting” with the idea, and launched an “unprecedented bid” to sign Top Gear stars Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond when they left the BBC. However, Amazon ended up winning that bidding war.
In recent years, Apple has hired independent film content experts to shore up iTunes Movies’ independent offerings with exclusive windows on films and a broader selection of content, including offering movies available for rent before or during their theatrical runs.
More recently, Apple has expanded into original content with its worldwide Beats 1 Radio station and music videos for artists like Drake, Eminem and M.I.A., which are reportedly produced in-house. With Apple’s rumored live TV-over-the-internet service coming in 2016, it’s likely the Cupertino company could be looking for original and exclusive content to lure customers to its service rather than its competitors.
Apple is reportedly planning to make its own original video content
Rumors suggest that Apple is finally ready to introduce new Apple TV hardware next week, but that’s not the only part of its new video strategy. According to Variety, Apple is preparing to launch its own original video programming in an effort to compete with Netflix, Hulu, Amazon and the many other tech companies that are making their own movies and TV series. It doesn’t sound like this content will be ready to show off next week, though. Variety reports that Apple is having “preliminary conversations” with big players in Hollywood; the company’s content lead Eddy Cue is apparently leading the effort.
Whether or not Apple wants to focus on movies, TV series or both remains to be seen. It’s also unclear as to what the sales and distribution model will be. Obviously, Apple can use its iTunes platform, but there’s no word on whether the company will look into offering a Netflix-style subscription service for its original material rather than its traditional purchase or rent business model. With the launch of Apple Music, Apple has shown that its open to subscriptions, but getting a video service off the ground with content consumers will want to pay for every month is easier said than done. And even with Apple’s money, competing with Netflix — no to mention differentiating itself against the many cable and broadcast TV networks is no easy feat. It seems like no official news is immediately forthcoming, but we shouldn’t have to wait too long to find out what Apple’s up to — Variety says the company’s original content division should “be in operation” sometime next year.
