Udacity to reimburse all Nanodegree students half of their tuition upon graduation

Online university Udacity has just announced a new plan to make it more affordable for enrolled students to finish their programs. Starting Wednesday, July 8th, Udacity will extend its ‘half-back’ tuition refund program to all upcoming Nanodegree students. This means that every student enrolled in these programs will now get 50 percent of their tuition cost back, provided they complete their program within 12 months of enrollment.
The ‘half-back’ promotion was first introduced in May as an experiment, and thanks to overwhelming student response, the online university is extending the promotion to the rest of the Nanodegree program participants.
Google and Udacity announced the Android Nanodegree back at Google I/O 2015, which promises to cover everything from fundamentals to advanced development skills, on top of Google Play services and Material Design. The Android Nanodegree takes anywhere from 6 to 9 weeks to complete if students spend 10-15 hours per week, and costs $200 per month. Udacity currently has over 8,600 students enrolled in its six Nanodegree courses, which likely saw a huge increase in enrollment numbers thanks to the Google/Udacity announcement. To learn more about the Android Nanodegree, our own Nirave Gondhia created an informative post explaining what exactly the course entails.
If you’re interested in enrolling in the Android Nanodegree program, head to this link to sign up. Enrollment begins tomorrow at 12pm ET. Also, be sure to sign up to get 50% of your tuition back after you graduate.
We have the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active: Ask us anything!

Last month Samsung took the veil off the Galaxy S6 Active, a waterproof variant of the Galaxy S6 exclusive to the AT&T network.
Packing the same internals, minus a few changes such as a larger battery and the lack of a fingerprint scanner, the Active brings the same performance you’d expect from Samsung’s flagship but in a package that is considerably more durable.

Android gets nearly 5,000 new strains of malware per day
Analytics firm G DATA has new data about malware in Android. In its Q1 2015 Mobile Malware report, it explains that almost half a million new strains were discovered from January to the end of March. To put that into perspective, this means that a new strain appears every 18 seconds, which equates to about 5,000 a day.
Supposedly, Android apps allow for easier access than their iOS counterparts. Indeed, if that is true (and it probably is), it is easy to see why Android is more likely to catch the attention of hackers. TechSpot adds that a recent study by Pulse Secure suggests that around 97% of this malware targets Google’s OS. This is 6.4% higher than for Q4 2014 and almost 21% higher than Q1 2014.
Online banking and online retail only compound the problem. According to G DATA, since about 78% of internet users shop through sites and about 50% use their mobile devices for online banking, hackers are more likely to create subscription hacks, ransomware, and remote money transfers scams.
Although the numbers might be surprising, the reality is not. There is a reason why there is such a vast selection of anti-virus and anti-malware apps on Google Play. As a precaution, it’s a good idea to read reviews of some of these and choose an option, if you have not yet done so.

OnePlus 2 will officially have 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM
OnePlus has revealed today that the upcoming OnePlus 2 will sport 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM. This is the latest and fastest type of RAM available on the market, and in addition to that, the new Snapdragon 810 processor that will be running on the new device can take full advantage of it while lowering power consumption.
This is what was posted on the OnePlus forum website explaining why they chose this type of RAM;
“Why did we choose LPDDR4 for the OnePlus 2? Another notable benefit is lower power consumption for better battery efficiency. That means you’ll be able to use your favorite apps (and more) without draining the battery. With LPDDR4, you get twice the bandwidth performance as the LPDDR3 at the same power consumption profile.”
“Not only will the experience on the OnePlus 2 be smoother and sleeker, but your battery life will benefit as well.”
This is another feature to be excited about for the upcoming OnePlus 2 that will be unveiled on July 27th!

Netflix’s first original feature film will debut on October 16th
If you’ve been looking forward to the day when you can watch Adam Sandler offend the Native American population from the comfort of your own home, pay attention: Netflix just announced release dates for its first four original feature films. You’ll be able to watch Sandler’s controversial contribution, The Ridiculous Six, on December 11th, exclusively on Netflix.
Not a Happy Madison fan? Don’t worry: Netflix is actually kicking off its film line up two months earlier with Beasts of No Nation, on October 16th–a war drama about a child soldier caught up in an African civil war. That film is slated for a simultaneous theater release, despite threats from major theater chains to boycott Netflix films. Fans looking for something less cerebral will have to wait until March 2016, when Pee-Wee’s Big Holiday hits the streaming service.
Not all of the films have a hard release date. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: The Green Legend is still only listed for release sometime in the first quarter of 2016–but when it does arrive, it’ll launch alongside an IMAX release and theatrical screenings in China.

Facebook says renewables will power 50% of its data centers by 2018
Facebook is stepping up its commitment to renewable energy today. While announcing a new data center in Fort Worth (above), which happens to be entirely powered by wind energy, the social network also set a new goal of having 50 percent of its data centers relying on renewables by the end of 2018. That follows an earlier self-imposed goal to have 25 percent of its data centers powered by clean energy come the end of this year. Naturally, Facebook plans to have all of its operations powered by renewable energy eventually. It’s also working together with Greenpeace — which took today’s announcement as a chance to shame Amazon for its data center energy usage — to ensure that it’s exploring new energy options properly. Facebook teamed up with Citi Energy, Starwood Energy, and Alterra Power to bring a 17,000 acre wind farm online for its new Fort Worth data hub, which should deliver around 200 MW of energy to Texas. Facebook plans to get that new data center online by the end of 2016.

Rdio adds new options to its list of curated stations
Rdio has been keen on serving up curated stations for your listening pleasure for some time now, but today the streaming service added even more options. Like the existing selections, the new stations are curated by record labels and a smattering of “cultural influencers.” The latter variety includes stations from Hype Machine, the folks at Yelp NYC and more. In terms of label stations, you can expect to see curated audio from Arts & Crafts, Blue Note Records, DFA Records, Glassnote Records and more available through the app (depending on your location). These join the long list of current options from the likes of A.V. Club, Def Jam and Sub Pop. If you’d rather have a bit more choice than an “always on” broadcast affords, you might want to give Rdio’s station list a look.

Check out the first official gameplay trailer for Kabam’s new Star Wars: Uprising RPG
We first heard about Lucasfilm and game developer Kabam’s new Star Wars: Uprising role playing game back in June, and today we’re finally getting a glimpse of what we can expect from the new title. Kabam has just released the first official gameplay trailer, which you can find attached above.
Taking place after Episode VI: Return of the Jedi and before Episode VII: The Force Awakens, you’ll get to create and customize unique characters, go on missions, develop skills and collect gear, all while building up a powerful crew and cartel to fight in large-scale sector-wide battles. If you need a refresher, the RPG is set in the Anoat Sector in Hoth and Cloud City, which follows the Battle of Endor and the death of the Emperor.
If you’re a fan of Star Wars, you’ll probably end up becoming a fan of this game. It will definitely provide a look at what’s to come in Episode VII, which is already one of the most anticipated films of the year.
We know that the game will launch sometime this fall, though we’re still not sure of an exact release date. We’ll be sure to let you know when we get some more information about the game’s launch date.
Unlocked Samsung Galaxy S6 slashed to $499 on eBay
The Samsung Galaxy S6, easily one of the best Android phones available, is on sale right now. At least through one eBay retailer, that is.
Techno Trading House is currently selling the 32GB Samsung Galaxy S6 for just $499, much less than what carriers are charging for an unlocked version of S6.
Since this is a factory unlocked GSM model, it should only work with the GSM carriers like AT&T and T-Mobile. As of right now the phone is available in two color choices: Black and White. The Gold and Blue colors are currently out of stock.

LG straps the G4 to a drone and shoots an amazing promo video
There’s no debating that the LG G4 has an amazing camera, but what better way to show that off than to use it to shoot an entire promo video from a drone? LG decided to do just that in their latest promotional video showcasing the LG G4’s video capability.
The amazing video is thanks part to its 16-Megapixel camera, but more to the f/1.8 lens that LG have equipped the G4 with.
LG have preserved the video in its natural format and say it doesn’t include any post-processing enhancements, which is impressive if it’s true since the promo video looks impressive. It does get a little shaky at times, but considering it’s a phone strapped to a drone, it handles it pretty well.
Would this promo video make you buy an LG G4?
