Adobe brings its handy mobile design apps to Android

Back in October, Adobe delivered a new suite of mobile apps to iOS devices. Keeping its promise to include the Android faithful as well, the company’s Photoshop Mix, Color CC, Brush CC and Shape CC are now available for download over at Google Play. Creative types running Google’s mobile OS on their devices can expect to easily transform a photo taken with a phone into vector art with Shape CC, make images edits with Photoshop Mix and build a collection of hues with Color CC. If you fancy iOS, there’s a new color capture app called Hue CC. With this bit of software, capture colors from photos to create custom Looks that can then be applied to videos in Premiere and After Effects on the desktop or Premiere Clip on a phone or tablet. All of the mobile apps are free to use, but Creative Cloud subscribers can take advantage of desktop compatibility and cloud storage for all of the stuff created while on the go.

EA shows off its stable of upcoming sports blockbusters

As expected, EA took the stage at E3 2015 to showcase the next installment of its popular sports franchises. That, of course, includes FIFA 16, Madden 16, NBA Live 16, NHL 16 and Rory McIlroy PGA Tour. This year, like most others, EA Sports is focusing on evolution rather than revolution, so people familiar with these titles won’t notice any major change. But that’s not to say some things haven’t changed. In the case of FIFA 16, for example, there are all-new defensive mechanics, which will help you defend better ground against attacking players. For NBA 16, EA Sports revealed an app that can take your picture and then use it as a custom character’s face — the most impressive part about this is how it only takes a couple of minutes.

Madden 16, meanwhile, comes with a completely overhauled passing game, designed to assist quarterbacks, receivers and defenders in coverage. You’ll see improved passing for specific routes, for example, allowing you to choose different types of catches — including one that lets players attack the ball at its highest point. As a defender, on the other hand, you can play the receiver instead of just the ball, which should make it harder for anyone to score on you.

Rory Mcllroy PGA Tour, Madden 16, NHL 16, FIFA 16 and NBA Live 16 will be released on July 14th, August 15th, September 15th, September 23rd and September 29th, respectively. Trailers for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions are below.

Ubisoft’s E3 2015 liveblog!

Ubisoft’s E3 blitz is a curious mix of triple-A titles, like Assassins Creed, as well as, er, Raving Rabbits and Just Dance iterations. It’s also typically had a spadeful of spectacle thrown into the mix. And that’s probably a very good reason to liveblog it — so we’re going to. Expect more information on Ubisoft’s premier titles, more information on Rainbow Six: Siege. It all starts at 2:45PM PT, or 5:45PM ET. Come on over and join us!

It’s time for Ubisoft… and it’s a madhouse.

Ah, Ubisoft. We meet again. Let’s see what wacky things you have in store for us this year!

The music is super-loud, there are people in body armor and Victorian garb, and Mat’s personal space is being invaded.

The music cuts out and a video begins! It’s a couple of Ubisoft people being awkward on camera, rather than on stage.

Rabbids Invasion is up first!

A rabbid dressed in a toast costume is unable to jump into a toaster. Classic rabbids.

The first official fart joke of E3, 2:42PM PT, Ubisoft press conference.

Now we have a video of Ubisoft employees talking about how cool their jobs are.

When will someone actually get on the stage? I mean, I like movies, but …

It’s a cool little video, but the stage is so empty. Someone think of the stage!

I see no trace of Aisha Tyler so far. I want to see what kind of shoes she’s wearing this year.

Seems like the video is wrapping up though. (Fingers crossed.)

Now the Ubisoft developers and executives are reading mean tweets. The crowd chuckles politely, while quietly wondering why we’re still just watching a bunch of videos.

“I should have gone to see Jurassic World,” someone in the audience thinks.

Somehow, the video keeps rolling. Now it’s a Just Dance World Champion showcase.

People in the audience are talking, clapping, having a jovial time in general, despite the continued neglect of such premium stage space.

It boggles the mind. Such is Ubisoft.

Two of the people from the actual video are in the audience! Will they dance onstage? No. They’ll dance live on Twitch later in the week.

Apparently the actual conference hasn’t started yet — this has all been pre-show.

Fear not, stage. Your time to shine is coming.

And the video rolls ever on.

The last movie I saw was Avengers: Age of Ultron. There’s no reason for you to know that. This event is making me nostalgic, I guess.

The video ends. A hushed sigh of relief rolls over the crowd.

Somewhere, someone asks what time it is. It’s earlier than you think, friend.

NOW LOADING UPDATE.

I hear Aisha Tyler!

She’s giving us emergency exit instructions. I’M SCARED.

The lights go down and … another video.

This one is for what looks like a new South Park: The Stick of Truth.

Cartman and his buddies are all superheroes now, saving the city from evil Butters.

South Park: The Fractured But Whole is now available for pre-order.

Matt Stone and Trey Parker hit the stage with Aisha!

She’s wearing ankle boots, by the way. And a jumpsuit! Dig it.

Matt and Trey are also wearing clothes.

Cue the witty, awkward banter.

“We’re kind of whiny babies,” Matt and/or Trey says.

“We might regret it, but we’re doing it again.”

South Park: The Fractured But Whole is made in collaboration with Ubisoft San Francisco. It follows the story of a new kid coming to town and joining the other kids in a superhero game.

And off they go! Aisha commands the stage and starts the show.

I do love how cool Ubisoft is with cursing. We’ve had a few f-bombs and sh** drops already.

Some of Ubisoft’s top fans stand up — they’re front and center for the show.

Aisha drives home that Ubisoft truly listens to its fans and players.

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot takes the stage!

Yves is adorable. He loves games, game creators and game players, he says.

Here’s a new IP from Ubisoft Montreal.

There are soldiers in medieval-style armor defending a castle.

A huge battle erupts. I’m getting a slightly Viking vibe from some of these characters.

Some of the soldiers battle in a green mountainside, while others are in a dark castle.

Lots and lots of swordplay.

For Honor.

Apparently I missed the Samurai-style characters, but they’re there.

“When you look inside yourself, do you see a knight, a Viking, a samurai, perhaps?” Jason Vandenberghe says from the stage.

He has a truly badass cane, by the way, and great stage presence.

Eight people take the stage, put on headphones and pick up controllers.

Two teams of four players in a live multiplayer demo, live onstage right now.

We’re following the blue knights right now. We see one main player race toward a horde of orange samurai.

The battlefield is packed.

The player runs to a clear area and faces off with a samurai, one-on-one, then two-on-two.

These are all live players, not NPCs, in the clearing. NPCs and live players rage in the background.

Yikes. Head-chop complete.

“That was just a tease of our current build,” Jason says.

The four-on-four demo is at E3 “on console.”

Check out forhonorgame.com to sign up for the beta.

Aisha returns and we’re on to The Crew.

“Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines.” And we cut to a trailer of The Crew.

There are cars!

The Crew: Wild Run on November 17th, 2015.

Now, something else: a cat riding a unicorn.

Try hating ‘Star Wars Battlefront’ now that you’ve seen it

Star Wars Battlefront invades PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on November 17th with large-scale multiplayer gameplay and a lot of classic series trimmings. We’re talking lightsabers, X-Wings, AT-STs and more. You can see a lot of those in the gameplay video below, in a battle inspired by the Hoth sequence from The Empire Strikes Back, captured on PlayStation 4. It’s pre-alpha gameplay (meaning incredibly early), but it looks bombastic with a sense of scale I haven’t seen in a Star Wars game to date. The AT-AT feels like a monstrous, multi-story death contraption that could kill you underfoot if you walk too close to it.

Oh, and you can pilot one. The gameplay demo switches between Empire and Rebel forces and shows off the danger of controlling these: a snowspeeder tripping you with its tow cable. I don’t want to spoil the end for you, but a familiar man in black makes an appearance. Good luck waiting until November 17th.

Time to change your master password, LastPass was hacked

Password-management service LastPass announced today that it “discovered and blocked suspicious activity” on its network on Friday. While the company says that there is no evidence that user vault data (a user’s stored passwords) was taken or that accounts were accessed, it did acknowledge that user email addresses, authentication hashes, password reminders and server per user salts were compromised. LastPass is confident that its encryption is strong enough to make attacking those stolen hashes with any speed difficult. But yeah, if you’re a LastPass customer you should change your password. Even though LastPass recommends you change your password if you have a weak master password or use that password on multiple sites, you really should change your master password — and switch on multifactor authentication — just in case.

There’s a new South Park game and it’s all about superheroes

Well, Ubisoft just kicked off its E3 press conference with what’s definitely a crowd pleaser: a new South Park game. Aisha Tyler (she of “LANAAAAA!!! fame) brought out South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone to announced the title, South Park: The Fractured But Whole (get it? yeah). The game’s currently in development — sorry, no release date was mentioned — with Ubisoft’s San Francisco studio and picks up where Stick of Truth left off. You’re still the “new kid,” but this time you and the South Park crew are playing superheroes.

“At the end of Truth, we kinda realized how to make videogames, said Matt Stone on stage. Well, considering how many patches were issued for Truth, Matt, we’re inclined to agree.

Developing…

Popular Robbery and Hostage-Taking Franchise “Payday” Is Coming to Mobile

Payday The Heist Mobile

Payday is a popular 2011 first-person shooter in which players adopt the persona of various bank robbers who appear lifted from either The Dark Knight or Point Break. The goal, as one would surmise, is to take money and terrorize people via the hostage process. It’s good family fun.

Despite the game’s popularity on Playstation 3 and PC, it has evaded mobile development for some years. However, rest easy, aspirant ne’er-do-wells – Payday is coming to mobile.

The Swedish studio behind the game, Starbreeze, has partnered with Cmune, a Chinese mobile games specialist better known for goofy micropayment games supported by Facebook. Starwood has ever acquired 6.3 percent of Cmune in the process , a $1.4 million investment.

If anything, this speaks volumes about the gaming power in mobile devices now. Sure, it’s easy to argue that the processing power is somehow not current, since we’re looking at PS3 games four years later, but that’s a pretty awesome achievement.

Personally, this game has zero appeal to me. Sure, I appreciate a good heist film where one is rooting for the criminals, but something about playing the active, first-person role in the whole thing doesn’t work for this author, yet still I think Grand Theft Auto is wildly entertaining. Chances are I feel this way because I actually witnessed a bank hostage situation when I was a kid. Clearly, I’m a conflicted individual.

But hey, if this is your cup of tea and you’re jazzed to put on some clown masks and raise hell, who am I to judge?

No word yet on when this new version of Payday will be released, but don’t be shocked if we get into 2016 before it shows up in your respective app store.
