Google Maps will tell you if your destination will be closed upon arrival
We have all been there. You hop on your car without a worry and tell Google Maps to take you to one of your favorite restaurants… only to get there and find out the darn place is closed! This is frustrating, especially knowing Google Maps has hours and other information on hand. But worry not, for the latest Google Maps will help you avoid those disappointing and pointless trips.
The latest update to Google Maps includes a feature that makes total sense. Upon asking for directions, Maps will check your destination’s hours (if available) and let you know if the place will be closed by your estimated arrival time. A simple and clean notification will also present you with the hours of operations for that day, as well as the estimated time of arrival. You can easily cancel navigation after receiving this message.
Pretty convenient, right? Don’t go testing it just yet, though. Google seems to be feeling very generous today, as there is another significant feature added to Maps. In addition to pulling information from Gmail about flights and hotels, Google Maps will now also uses data from car rental-related emails. All the user needs to do is access the “my events” section. Oh, and if you want the full rundown of this update, we should add that there was also the usual round of bug fixes.
Google Maps is one of the most important services for Android users (or anyone, really), so we are glad to see the recent onslaught of improvements the service has received lately. From the recent inclusion of real-time transit information to Navigation sharing and upcoming offline features, these are all updates that will surely make our trips much more pleasant.
Head over to the Google Play Store to test out this new update. And don’t forget to hit the comments section and tell us how well these new features are treating you.
Ubisoft’s ‘The Division’ arrives on March 8th, 2016
Ubisoft’s The Division has seen a protracted development cycle, to say the least — the studio unveiled the Tom Clancy-badged online shooter back in 2013, and a release has been elusive ever since. At last, though, you have a date to mark on your calendar. The apocalyptic title will reach the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on March 8th, 2016, and Xbox One gamers will get their chance to play in a closed beta test in December. PC and PS4 players will also get a shot at playing early, but Ubisoft is coy about details beyond an early 2016 testing window.
It could be worth the wait, whichever version you’re playing. At its onstage E3 event, Ubisoft made a big deal of how The Division‘s “Dark Zone” will have you questioning the loyalty of other human players, including your teammates. That could lead to some griefing by less-than-friendly players, to be sure, but it’ll also add an extra level of tension to a game that already promises to be pretty vicious.

‘Rainbow Six Siege’ has Angela Bassett, beta launches September 24th
Last year Call of Duty brought Kevin Spacey, and for 2015, Ubisoft is calling on Angela Basset to star in its next Rainbow Six game. Named Six, she’s the leader of your terrorist-hunting squad, doling out the intel needed to eliminate targets. Ubisoft also showed off a live demo of five players participating in the revamped Terrohunt mode that can be played solo or cooperatively. Rainbow Six Siege is set for release on October 13th, while a beta on all platforms (PC, PS4, Xbox One) is scheduled for September 24th offering both PvP and Terrohunt — sign up here.

Ubisoft’s ‘Ghost Recon Wildlands’ is an open-world tactical shooter
Well, here’s something you probably didn’t expect from Ubisoft’s E3 event: an open-world Ghost Recon game. The developer’s just-unveiled Ghost Recon Wildlands has you fighting a Bolivian drug cartel using whatever means you see fit, whether it’s sniping targets from a distance, sneaking in under cover of night or simply causing chaos. Vehicles will play an important role, and it’ll also be important to get help from (or be wary of) locals. Ubisoft is saying precious little about when Wildlands will show up or what its mechanics are like, but it’ll have both co-op and solo play when it arrives on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

Now you can stream Xbox One games to Windows 10 computers
Microsoft announced that, starting today, Xbox One users running Windows 10 and who are members of the preview program will be able to try the company’s new Game Streaming feature. It does exactly what it sounds like, allowing users to stream their console games to a remote computer. In fact, the feature actually mirrors the full console so you can also access the home screen and apps however you won’t be able to stream movies, music or other protected content. What you will have access to is virtually every Xbox One title — save for the ones that require a Kinect or other specialized hardware.
You’ll also need to have the same Xbox Live account set up on both the console and PC, as well as a Gold subscription, if you want to hop into a multiplayer game or use voice chat. And speaking of multiplayer, if you want to run a local multiplayer game but don’t want to deal with a split screen, Game Streaming will allow one person to play on the console while the other plays on the PC. But don’t bother asking for keyboard/mouse compatibility, Microsoft has also announced it won’t be coming — you’ll need a wired USB controller on the PC.

Electronic Arts gives mobile a segment during its E3 2015 press conference
This afternoon in Los Angeles, Electronic Arts took the stage for its E3 2015 press conference. The company covered everything from gaming in the living to gaming with mobile devices. Statistics in mobile gaming were offered and EA Mobile announced new titles and updates for existing ones. EA Mobile games have been downloaded over 715 million times in the last year throughout the world with nearly 500,000 years of gameplay recorded. Mobile gaming, according to EA, is a platform that requires as much attention as console gaming.
Hit the break to see what EA Mobile has coming.
Minions Paradise
Upon sinking a cruise ship, Phil and his fellow Minions are required to convert a deserted tropical island into a paradise. Minions Paradise hands players the controls of the island now filled with Minions working together to perform various activities and complete tasks. The game, which will be released this summer, is customizable, allowing players can control what their version of paradise is. The villains from the films are in the game, too, and the Minions can work to build a special resort for them.

EA Sports FIFA
The high-end gameplay from the console version will makes it way to EA Sports FIFA. The developer will no longer release a new title each year. Instead, EA Sports plans to update its soccer game with appropriate enhancements and expansion packs. EA Mobile calls it the “next generation of FIFA for mobile.” The update will presumably come this fall.
Madden NFL Mobile
Madden NFL Mobile, like EA Sports FIFA, will be updated annually to stay current. EA Sports also introduced Season Score, a form of points that can be used when the game is updated on August 19.
Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes
The star of the press conference hosted by EA this afternoon was clearly Star Wars-related titles. After all, the next film will be released in December just after Star Wars: Battlefront launches on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The role-playing game developed by EA Capital Games for mobile devices is Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes.
Here is how John Salera, EA Capital Games’ executive producer, described the game:
“When we set out to make STAR WARS: GALAXY OF HEROES, we wanted to tap into the fantasy of collecting characters and starfighters and then let people enjoy the fun of playing with them creatively. We’re bringing this idea to life by allowing players to take part in battles with collections of their favorite heroes, characters, and ships from across the Star Wars™ universe. From the classic trilogy and Star Wars Rebels™ and Star Wars™: The Clone Wars™ animated TV shows, to the prequels films and beyond, we’re giving players a truly extensive Star Wars experience.
We have a great partnership with the talented folks at Lucasfilm and Disney Interactive. It is that collaboration that has enabled us to deliver a unique mobile experience that brings the vastness of the epic Star Wars franchise into the palm of your hand, available later this year on the App Store and Google Play.”
Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes will be released later this year for mobile devices.

Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes is a new card-based RPG from EA, coming later this year
E3 2015 is in full swing and while the event has traditionally focused more on PC and console gaming, we are actually seeing some pretty intriguing mobile gaming news as well. The latest announcement comes from Electronic Arts, which revealed plans for a new Star Wars mobile game during its E3 press conference.
Dubbed Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes, the upcoming game is a card-based RPG that takes place over the course of events from the original and prequel trilogies. Just like any card-based game, the object is to collect characters, ships, and other cards in order to make your deck as powerful as possible.
While not quite as exciting as KotR, Star Wars fans will want to keep an eye out for this one when it arrives later this year on Google Play. We’ll be sure to update our readers as soon as we learn more concrete details on what to expect.
Apple Adds Four New Videos to ‘Shot on iPhone 6’ Gallery
Apple today updated its “Shot on iPhone 6” microsite to add four new videos to the “World Gallery films” section of the site. While the Shot on iPhone 6 campaign has been running since March, the dedicated video gallery was just added in early June.
Today’s videos come from the Netherlands, Australia, the United States, and Norway. Like the existing videos in the gallery, the new videos showcase content shot using the iPhone and its video capturing tools like Slo-Mo and Time Lapse Each of the 15-second videos is accompanied by music and concludes with the tagline “Shot on iPhone 6.”
The first video, shown above, is a Time Lapse of clouds passing over a mountain, while the second depicts a caterpillar inching along the grass. The other two videos depict what appears to be a swarm of birds and a Slo-Mo video of the shadows cast by skateboarders.
Apple’s Shot on iPhone 6 microsite also includes a range of photographs that were taken with the iPhone 6, some of which have been edited using various apps. The site features photos and videos from more than 70 photographers in 24 countries, with the images being used in print media, transit posters, and billboards across the world.
Apple Seeds Sixth OS X 10.10.4 Yosemite Beta to Developers and Public Beta Testers
Apple today seeded the sixth beta of OS X 10.10.4 to developers and public beta testers, approximately one week after releasing the fifth OS X 10.10.4 beta and nearly two months after releasing the first OS X 10.10.4 beta. OS X 10.10.4 has been in testing since mid-April, following the early April release of OS X 10.10.3, which included the new Photos for OS X app.
The new beta, build 14E36b, can downloaded through the Software Update mechanism in the Mac App Store or through the Mac Developer Center.
OS X 10.10.3 brought several consumer-facing changes including the new Photos for OS X app, a redesigned emoji picker, and diversified emoji, but OS X 10.10.4 appears to be an under-the-hood update that brings performance enhancements and bug fixes.
Thus far, OS X 10.10.4 betas have not included outward facing design changes or feature additions, but the fourth beta introduced a significant behind-the-scenes update that may improve networking performance for users who have experienced issues with OS X Yosemite.
Discoveryd, a somewhat problematic networking process that has been linked to multiple bugs in OS X 10.10, was removed in favor of the older bug-free mDNSresponder.
It is not clear when Apple plans to release OS X 10.10.4 to the public, but the fact that we’ve now received six betas suggests we may be nearing the end of the beta testing period. It’s possible we could see the public release of OS X 10.10.4 on June 30, the same day Apple plans to release iOS 8.4 with the new Music app and Apple Music service.
‘Mirror’s Edge Catalyst’ hits consoles and PC on February 23rd, 2016
Do you recall that Mirror’s Edge reboot we reported on at last year’s E3, and the E3 before that? Yeah, EA is finally providing a close look at the long-in-the-making parkour title Mirror’s Edge Catalyst, which is slated to arrive February 23rd, 2016, on the PS4, Xbox One and PC. As hinted early on, you’re witnessing Faith’s origins as she becomes an underground hero in the corporate-dominated City of Glass. This is an open-world story with no arbitrary levels and loading times — your main goal is simply to navigate the urban landscape and fight the oppressive regime of business mastermind Gabriel Kruger. There are a few new activities, too, such as A-to-B races and the as-yet-undescribed “Dash” mode. The new Mirror’s Edge will be playable on the show floor, and you can be sure that we’ll give it a spin.
