LastPass urges users to update their master passwords following recent security breach

The folks over at LastPass claim that last Friday, they noticed and blocked some suspicious activity taking place on its network. While the team has no evidence that encrypted users data was taken and that no user accounts were accessed, investigations have shown that account email addresses, password reminders, server per user salts, and authentication hashes have been compromised. Because of this, the company is taking some extra precautions to ensure all is right with everyone’s data, so they’re now requiring all users who are logging in from a new device or IP address to verify their account by email.
All users of the service are also urged to update their master password as soon as possible, especially those who have a weak password or reuse their master password on any other website. If you update your master password and still feel a little uneasy about the hack, you can always sign up for multifactor authentication for a bit of added protection.
Although security breaches and “suspicious activity” can be nerve-racking, password managers can prove very useful most of the time. It may not be the most secure way to store your long list of complicated passwords, but some would argue that the added convenience is worth the risk. Do you use a password manager? Why or why not? Be sure to let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
Easily share you photos privately with Facebook’s Moments
Do you want a way to share your pictures privately without having them disappear? The folks at Facebook Creative Labs have released just the thing. Moments is a standalone app that allows you to share your photos with your friends, or receive photos of yourself from friends, without worrying about them disappearing.
The reason why the whole “not disappearing” thing is relevant is due to the popularity of SnapChat, and the fact that all of the images that you receive, vanish after being viewed. If you take them, they don’t vanish, but if you happen to go out with your friends and someone takes a picture or video, then sends it out via a Snapchat story, it’s gone once viewed. Of course you can take a screenshot, but that’s more annoying than it is helpful.
Syncing photos with the Moments app is a private way to give photos to friends and get the photos you didn’t take. Moments groups the photos on your phone based on when they were taken and, using facial recognition technology, which friends are in them. You can then privately sync those photos quickly and easily with specific friends, and they can choose to sync their photos with you as well. Now, you and your friends have all the photos you took together.
Something else that is cool is the fact that Moments keeps all of your images organized, and those images are able to be searched within. So, if you want to find a specific image of someone, you can search for their name, and once the photo is tagged correctly, those images will pop up with Moments. At least Facebook is doing one thing that’s pretty awesome for their users.
Moments is available today on both iOS and Android for free, and you can download it right now.

Inbox by Gmail adds Trip Bundles to help with those reservations
Slowly but surely, the features that we are all accustomed to already within the native Gmail app, are coming to Inbox. This time around, the latest update brings Trip Bundles within Inbox. Basically, this allows users to easily find any of their travel arrangement information, without having to search high and low. Users also don’t have to worry about creating a separate folder just for your travel info.
Naturally, if you’re an Inbox Zero kinda person, you have folders and rules for everything, so this won’t be a major update. What’s more exciting is that Inbox is getting closer and closer to the Gmail application.
The new Trip Bundles features include the grouping of hotel reservations, flight purchases, rental car confirmations and check-in reminders. All of this annoying, yet pertinent information will be grouped together for easy findings. This will help you if you need to pull something up quickly, especially if your hands are already full of your various bags and such.
When it’s time to fly, Inbox will even update your flight status so you’ll know if your trip is on time or if your gate has changed. You can open the bundle to see all your emails related to that trip, with the most important information (like flight times) right at the top. Each section in the bundle gives you all the details about your flight, rental car, hotel or restaurant reservation. And when there are multiple emails about the same reservation, Inbox is smart enough to only show you the most up-to-date information.
The update has already been making its way to your devices, so be on the lookout to see if these features have already made a home within Inbox. Let us know how these new features have helped you on a recent trip, or on one that you are about to be taking.

Rare’s next game is ‘Sea of Thieves’ for Xbox One and Windows 10

Rare isn’t just banking on 30 years of nostalgia; it has a brand-new franchise on the way called Sea of Thieves. Announced today for Xbox One and Windows 10, it’s looking like the pirate sim we didn’t get from Assassin’s Creed. Rare described the game as its most ambitious effort ever, as the player dives in first-person to a shared adventure. As one would expect from Rare, it’s all very stylized and cartoony, which you can get a good look at via the trailer (embedded after the break.) There’s no word yet on a release date, but we’ll be looking for it on the show floor and you can sign up for more updates on the official website.

Camouflage could soon change colors the same way squid do
Researchers at the University of Bristol have announced they’ve developed of artificial cephalopod chromatophores — the specialized cells that allow squid and octopi to instantly change their skin color — a breakthrough that could lead to real life active camouflage. The team employed a pliable smart material called electroactive dielectric elastomer to create artificial skin. And as you can see in the video below, they programmed the cells to sense what their neighbors were doing (either expanding or contracting) and then do the same. Right now, the cells can only open and close operate linearly. However, the researchers hope to further develop the technology so that future iterations are able to mimic the complex patterns that cephalopods actually produce.
“Our ultimate goal is to create artificial skin that can mimic fast acting active camouflage and be used for smart clothing such as cloaking suits and dynamic illuminated clothing,” Aaron Fishman, Visiting Fellow in Engineering Mathematics, said. “The cloaking suit could be used to blend into a variety of environments, such as in the wild. It could also be used for signalling purposes, for example search and rescue operations when people who are in danger need to stand out.” The team published their study “Hiding the squid: patterns in artificial cephalopod skin” in the Journal Interface on June 10th.

‘Mass Effect: Andromeda’ coming holiday 2016
We’ve waited and waited for solid details on Mass Effect: Andromeda for what seems like an eternity and now we have a few more. The game launches next holiday season, to start. That’s big enough on its own but BioWare had even more to share from the stage of its press event here at E3 2015. Since it’s using the Frostbite game engine pioneered by DICE, the game looks predictably gorgeous. It’s in a new galaxy, the Mako is back, you’re an N7 officer once again. You’re playing as a human male or female, but not as the character seen in the trailer. BioWare says that Andromeda‘s “very much a new adventure” and that it takes place much quite a bit after the events of Mass Effect 3.
The game will only be available for PC and current-gen consoles. And while the trailer was built with Frostbite, that wasn’t actual gameplay you saw: the clip is the studio’s target look for the game. So, while the engine is powerful and capable of pretty impressive results, you might need to temper your expectations a bit.

‘Need For Speed’ has been rebooted, arrives November 3rd
EA already told us that Need For Speed was taking a… brake, but now it’s back. And EA is calling it “the definitive Need For Speed experience.” You’ll be able to drive around an open-air environment twice the size of its predecessor, Rivals. Customizations have also been cranked up, and there’s a suitably Fast And Furious-sounding story mode where you need to build your reputation as well as your car. It lands on PC, PS4 and Xbox One this November 3rd — and it’s looking good enough that you may expect to smell the tires. See for yourself in the trailer, just below.

Skype’s web chats now work on your Chromebook
As of today, you no longer need a relatively pricey PC to chat on Skype when you’d rather not break out your phone — a cheap-and-cheerful Chromebook will do the trick. In addition to expanding the Skype web beta worldwide, Microsoft has introduced instant messaging for both Chrome OS and Linux users. It’s not the video or voice calling you’re looking for, but it means that you can stay in touch with Skype-obsessed family members without having to switch devices or services. The messaging platform is based on the open, video-capable WebRTC standard, so don’t be surprised if you’re eventually holding face-to-face Skype conversations on that Chrome machine.
