Apple Wireless Keyboard Now Ships in 1-2 Weeks, New Backlit Model Possible [Mac Blog]

Apple Wireless Keyboard shipping times have slipped to 1-2 weeks on the Apple Online Store in the United States, prompting speculation that Apple may refresh the keyboard in the near future. Nevertheless, the wireless keyboard is still listed as in stock or available to ship within 1 business day in the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia, so this could also be a regular fluctuation in stock on the U.S. storefront.

Apple Wireless Keyboard 1 to 2 Weeks
Images of an Apple Wireless Keyboard with backlight keys and a power button briefly appeared on the Apple Online Store in Czech Republic and Hungary last month, with an identical Arabic version appearing on the U.S. storefront. The addition of backlight controls on the F5 and F6 keys leads us to believe that Apple could be planning to release a new backlit wireless keyboard, although when remains unknown.

The current Apple Wireless Keyboard has gone largely unchanged since receiving a major redesign with an aluminum enclosure in August 2007. A revised two-battery model was released in October 2009 and became the standard keyboard that shipped with iMacs, and Apple updated the keyboard again in 2011 when it added a new label on the Exposé key and changed the Dashboard key to a Launchpad key.

A number of other Apple products have also seen their shipping times slip from “in stock” to “1 business day” on the Apple Online Store in the United States, including the MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iMac, iPhone, iPad Air, iPad mini and Apple TV. Many of those product lineups have been updated within the past six months, so supply constraints due to the Apple Watch is the more probable cause than something major.

The Now Network has been on a roll these past few days it seems. First they offer the Samsung Galaxy S6 for free, and now they are offering free unlimited data and messaging roaming with 20 cent voice calls. For those of you that have have been out of the country, you know how great of a deal this is. The deal only applies to those traveling to Latin America, Europe, and Japan. So if you are planning on traveling to one of those areas anytime soon and do not wish to spend a small fortune to be able to Instagram all of the sights you plan on, well, seeing, then Sprint might be the way to go.

What color Galaxy S6 did you buy?

Today is the day many of us have finally picked up a Galaxy S6 of our own. There has been tremendous hype building for both the “regular” Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 edge, and there will be plenty of discussion about them for a long time to come. We think most are going to be pretty happy about their purchase — this is the best Galaxy yet.

Some of the discussion is about the color choices. Besides the black, white and gold option you’ll see available today at your carrier’s store, the Galaxy S6 also has a blue and green option. The bad news, at least for those of us in the US, is that it looks like you may be waiting a long while to see either the blue or green for sale unless you buy an international version. That being said, there’s nothing wrong with the way the available colors look. The GS6 and the edge look and feel fabulous in any color.

But which color did you end up getting? Answer the poll then fill the comments with your thoughts —that’s why they are there!

Sprint rolls out free (and slow) international data and messaging

We’re not entirely sure how it’s already April, but Sprint’s clearly eager to make a name for itself before everyone starts popping off on holidays. To wit: The carrier just rolled out a new international roaming plan that’ll net your Sprint phone free unlimited texting and 2G data abroad… as long as you’re traipsing through a handful of supported countries, anyway.

The service’ll work just peachy if you’re traveling through Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Germany, Guatemala, Japan, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Russia, South Korea, Spain, and the United Kingdom, though you’ll still have to shell out $0.20 a minute if you want to call from any of those countries. That’s not a bad list considering you’re paying nada, but it’s hard not to look at this move as a shot across T-Mobile’s bow. After all, the magenta-hued carrier offers basically the exact same service for free in over 120 countries and it supports all of the devices T-Mobile’s got on its shelves — two facts that John Legere really enjoyed rubbing into Sprint CEO Marcelo Claure’s face on Twitter. And the final caveat? While T-Mobile caps its international 2G data speeds to a paltry 128kbps, a quick look at Sprint’s International Value Roaming FAQ reveals a maximum speed of 64kbps — you’re basically tooting around on a mid-90s desktop connection at that point. You know what they say about gift horses and all.

Taking aim: Google allegedly working hard to make sure Android Wear works with iOS

World news is awash with articles about the Apple Watch today, and frankly if you manage to see this article, it will be somewhat of a miracle. However, behind the scenes Google is apparently readying its counterattack, but what is this counterattack? Well, as The Verge is reporting, the Android Wear operating system team at Google is apparently “finishing the final technical details” of making sure Android Wear works with iOS, a step that likely wouldn’t explicitly affect the popularity of the Apple Watch, but would crucially give iOS users something that their own ecosystem doesn’t allow them by nature – variety and choice.

Yes, if Android Wear worked on iOS, iOS users could choose to have a smartwatch that didn’t necessarily need to look like an Apple Watch and still have pretty much all the same functionality. Of course, there are a few glaring obstacles that need to be overcome, the largest of which would be getting an Android Wear app approved in the Apple App Store, which when said that way seems nigh on impossible. Nevertheless, it would be a brave and great move if Google were able to offer Android Wear devices on the iOS platform, but we’ll have to see if it pans out that way.

What do you think about Android Wear devices being used with iOS? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
