BBM beta update brings the ability to hide sticker packs, bug fixes
The BBM beta for BlackBerry 10 has been updated today, and while it isn’t a huge update, it does bring along the ability to hide sticker packs, which, as BlackBerry notes, could come in handy for packing away those seasonal packs.
Apple gave designer Karl Lagerfeld an Apple Watch Edition with a gold link bracelet
Apple has gifted designer Karl Lagerfeld with an Apple Watch Edition with a new band: a gold link bracelet.
Various celebrities have been showing off their gold Apple Watch Editions so far, but Lagerfeld’s is unique. So far, we haven’t seen a gold version of the link bracelet, and the only bands on sale for the Edition have been varieties of the sport bands, modern buckle, and classic buckle.
An image of the watch first appeared on Instagram from Sebastian Jondeau, Lagerfeld’s assistant.
According to Jon Gruber over at Daring Fireball, Lagerfeld hasn’t even set his Watch up yet:
Lagerfeld hasn’t even set this one up yet — the screen that’s shown here is the setup screen for pairing with your iPhone. You point your iPhone’s camera at your watch on this screen and it figures out which way it’s oriented, and boom, they’re paired.
We have no idea yet if this gold link bracelet will go on sale publicly, though that seems likely. We also have no idea how much it might cost. The existing stainless steel link bracelet retails for $449, and is the single-most expensive band you can purchase for the Apple Watch.

Watch Quest will be the first adventure game made for the Apple Watch
Developer WayForward Technologies will release their latest adventure game Watch Quest as an exclusive for the Apple Watch next week.
As with all apps made for the Apple Watch, Watch Quest will require the use of an iPhone as well to play the game. While Watch Quest will be free to download with one training mission, additional quests and characters can be bought via the iPhone. WayForward says:
The iPhone serves as the player’s kingdom, while the Apple Watch represents a journey that spans several hours. Gameplay revolves around choosing a hero and equipping them on the iPhone, and then guiding the Hero via the Apple Watch as he or she travels lands, battles monsters, solves puzzles, and searches for treasures. Players are invited to play passively by selecting longer, easier quests and outfitting the hero up front – or by taking on more difficult quests which require foraging for items as you go.
WayForward is a veteran game developer who have created a variety of titles for mobile, console and PC platforms. including the recent DuckTales: Remastered for the iPhone and iPad.

10.10.3 improves performance for games, report Mac game devs
If you like to play games on your Mac, you’ll be happy to know that OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 includes updates that improve game performance.
Still on the fence about whether to update to 10.10.3, which came out last week? Back up, back up, back up, but once you have and you’re ready to go, expect some core optimizations to Apple’s graphics drivers that are netting significant gains in some OS X games.
In its release notes for OS X 10.10.3, Apple didn’t outline any changes to OS X graphics drivers, but that doesn’t mean some optimizations didn’t get made. They’ve caught the notice of OS X game developers like Feral Interactive, which recently posted a message to social media:
Good news for Yosemite gamers! The OS X 10.10.3 update fixes certain issues with SHOGUN 2, DXHR – Director’s Cut, Tropico 4 and GRID 2.
— Feral Interactive (@feralgames) April 13, 2015
I checked with other game developers, and a few confirmed off the record that they’re seeing improvements in some of their games too, including performance boosts. Not all games are seeing better frame rates or improved reliability, but it’s a positive step.
It’s a bit maddening that Apple’s buried the information on what’s changed without making the information customer-facing (or even developer-facing, for that matter), but ours is not to reason why sometimes…just to accept and move on.
Contest: Win a VR for G3 — one of five, actually — and a phone to go with it!
Virtual reality once again is all the rage. We’ve got five VR for G3 visors to give away — and five phones to go along with them!
There are all sorts of flavors of VR out there. You’ve no doubt seen Google Cardboard, and LG has its own take on that with the new VR for G3. Think plastic visor that the LG G3 smartphone fits inside. Affix to your face, and you’re immersed in whatever’s on the screen.
And it’s time for us to give some away.
Here’s the deal:
Google releases their own Handwriting Input app
Google released their Handwriting Input app, which is yet another way to enter text onto your device. If finger input, voice commands or even swype isn’t for you, then you can try this new method out by actually handwriting your letters and words. The app supports in upwards of 82 languages and I’m sure more will come in time. The cool thing about this is that it even registers emojis, so you can happily draw out those happy faces.
If you want more info on this new app, check out the source link below along with a direct link to its Play Store page!

Chrome for Android updated to version 42, brings new site notifications
Google has updated the Chrome application to version 42, bringing a couple new features and some performance improvements.
Sites will now be able to set up notifications through Chrome so the app can send you alerts without having to download the main site’s app. It could be useful for something like a shopping site or social network where the user didn’t want to download the app but still wanted to keep up with it. Not exactly a common use-case scenario, but having the option is nice.
It’ll also be easier to create home screen shortcuts to your phone through Chrome thanks to a new banner that will start appearing on sites you frequent.
The update isn’t huge, but it’s something. Keep an eye out for it over the next few days. If you don’t feel like waiting, you can grab the update directly from the link below.

Google Handwriting Input app comes to Google Play, supports cursive, print and emoji input

Google has just released a new app, Google Handwriting Input, to the Play Store. As the name implies, you can use it to handwrite both print and cursive text on your Android phone or tablet without the need to have a stylus. It currently supports 82 different languages and even allows you to draw out emojis if you’d like.
This new application won’t be for everyone, but it is a unique way to quickly input small messages to send to your friends and family. In terms of design, it features a familiar color scheme that can be found in the official Google Keyboard app. Here are the key features this app has to offer:
- A useful complement to touchscreen typing or voice input
- A fun way to enter emojis by drawing
- Useful for languages that can be challenging to type on a standard keyboard
- Works across your Android phones and tablets running Android 4.0.3 and up
- If you claim your handwriting is terrible, try it out and see if it can convince you otherwise
