House passes cybersecurity bill allowing companies to share your data
If you wanted to explain the dilemma of privacy versus security to a curious relative, the Protecting Cyber Networks Act would be a good place to start. The bill has just been passed by the House of representatives (voting 307-116 in favor), and is designed to prevent future cyber attacks by allowing corporations to share information with each other and the government. Civil liberties groups claim the bill tramples on the privacy of the customers, and opens the door for agencies like the NSA to access their data (not that it needs much help, it seems).
A letter signed by over 50 privacy groups concedes that the bill is “less pernicious” than other recent similar legislation, but notes that under the PCNA, data shared through the government could be exempt from disclosure under the Freedom of Information Act, creating a “new secret cyber-intelligence coordinating body.” Naturally, the government doesn’t see it this way, and with high profile attacks on Sony and Target (among others) still in recent memory, it’s likely corporations are eager for the senate to pass the bill too.
The issue appears to be the bill’s lack of specificity. The PCNA would allow for data to flow between corporations via a government intermediary. Crucially, there are provisions that would allow the government to use these data outside of cyber threats. The civil liberties groups criticize the bill for allowing any data to also be used with the Espionage Act, making it ripe for abuse for things such as surveillance of journalists and their sources. While all this is going on, there’s still the very real threat of more large scale attacks on corporations that could expose this very same data to anyone on the internet. The bill is still being finalized as it awaits approval from the Senate.

Motorola starts rolling out Android 5.1 Lollipop for Moto X (2013) in Brazil
Brazilian users of the Motorola Moto X (first generation) have a reason to rejoice as their devices have begun to receive Android 5.1 Lollipop update.
Since the 2013 edition of the Motorola’s flagship phone is powered by Snapdragon S4 Pro chipset, Android updates require more tweaking than on newer processors. That is the reason why the Moto X 2013 is usually the last phone in the Motorola family to get Android updates – like we saw during Android 5.0 Lollipop rollout.
Although the update is likely to hit the rest of the markets soon, there is no word any exact dates. One of the reasons for the limited release in Brazil could be due to the relatively smaller user base in the country which will make it easier for Motorola for fix any potential issues after the update.
Apart from numerous bug fixes, the Android 5.1 update brings some design, UI and notification changes. Also, it brings the new Android Runtime (ART), Smart Lock (trusted devices) feature and a new flashlight option. The entire change log is below.
| Design material | You will notice an immediate visual fully renovated and colored in your device, since fluid animations to new themes, colors and widgets for applications and the system. |
| UI and priorities notifications | In order to alert you to the latest relevant information, the format and the operation of notifications evolved:
|
| New definitions of interruptions and downtime | You can adjust the operation of interruptions, opting to accept all, none or only interrupts with priority. You can customize what is considered an interrupt with priority (reminders, events, calls, SMS / MMS) and to adjust it to receive only specific contacts interruptions. The definition of idle period will allow priority interrupted only during the hours and days that you specify. For example, you can allow interrupts with priority only during the weekends. |
| Recent Applications (Multitasking) | The space redesigned the Overview (formerly Recent) will include both applications as separate activities in these applications. For example, the tabs open in Chrome will also appear here along with recent applications; both your Gmail inbox as a message from scratch email will be presented separately. This enables consistently switch between tasks. |
| Motorcycle | The Moto phone adapts to you and not vice versa. Now the Moto Assist incorporates Motorola, the Motorola smart screen, the Moto Voice (Voice Control) and the Moto Shares. |
| Moto Screen and Screen Environment | While the screen of your phone is off, the screen Moto will continue to submit relevant reports through contextual computing processor of low consumption. Also react intelligently when using the zoom gesture in the Moto Shares. Now, Android Lollipop includes similar functionality, designated Environment screen, which displays notifications such as those already made on the lock screen. If you prefer to try the new functionality screen environment, clear the screen setting in Moto Moto application. Note: Screen Environment does not use the low-power processor from Motorola and activate more of the screen, which can affect battery life. The zoom gesture in the Moto Shares not activate the screen Environment. |
| Moto Assist and Sleep Delay | Moto Assist integrates new functionality Sleep Delay in The Lollipop Android system, in order to control when to not be bothered. The Moto Assist now also use the new settings interruptions, so you can customize exceptions, such as allowing only contact you with people in your contact list star. |
| Flashlight | The Lollipop includes a new flashlight option as part of the Quick settings (slide down with two fingers from the status bar to view). |
| Share your device | You can now set up multiple user accounts on your phone. The guest mode is enabled by default. You can grant privileges calls and sending SMS / MMS to other users from your device or restricting them, according to their preferences via the Settings menu in users. Note that the custom Moto experiences (Moto Assist, Voice Moto, Moto Screen , Moto Shares) and the Motorola Connect intended only to the owner’s account. The Motorola Camera and Gallery applications support multiple user accounts. |
| Select a view / application | Screen Marking allows you to keep an application or a specific screen viewing. For example, you can “tag” a game and your child can not access any other content on your phone. |
| Battery | Now the battery settings panel estimates how much time remains until running out of battery or until it is fully charged. You can also activate a new battery saving mode, which will reduce consumption by limiting the performance of most data in the background operations, in order to increase battery life. |
| Connections smarter internet | With Android Lollipop, your phone will not establish connection to a Wi-Fi hotspot without there being a connection to the internet verified. This feature improves the transition between Wi-Fi connections and mobile, so that the video chat or voice call over IP (VoIP) remain active during this transition. |
| Performance | The phone now uses the new Android Runtime to help optimize application performance. After you upgrade to Lollipop, their applications will undergo a single optimization process. Note that you need more space for optimizing ART |
| Smart Lock (Trusted Devices) |
The Android Lollipop adds native support to enable reliable devices remain unlocked phone (like Moto 360, a headset or Bluetooth car kit, etc.). Smart Lock replaces the previous trusted device capabilities of your Motorola phone. Note that you must re-add the trusted devices after the transition to the Lollipop in the Security settings menu on Smart Lock. |
If you have received the update notification, make sure that your device is at least 50% charged and it is connected to a stable network connection, preferably Wi-Fi. Download the software and install it. Once the software gets installed, your phone will automatically restart and updated.
In case you want to download the update manually, go to Settings> About phone> System update> Download and install. Once the update gets installed, the phone will automatically restart and updated.

There’s a lot going on in Iran right now, so it’s probably the last place we expected to get our first real-life photos of the new LG G4, and a dual-SIM LG G4 at that. In a series of photos posted next to tissue and juice boxes for scale, we get a glimpse of both the plastic and leather back covers of the next LG flagship. In particular, you will notice that the plastic version’s pattern is different to the LG G3‘s and that the leather version is looking very much like real, supple leather. You can also see that this is definitely the dual-SIM version by the SIM switching soft key found alongside the other usual Android soft keys. This will come as no surprise as the LG G4 is expected to be available in almost all markets globally.
The LG G4 is due for announcement on April 28th and while its specs aren’t as mouthwatering as they could be, there’s still a whole lot of phone to enjoy. The LG G4 is rumoured to be powered with a Snapdragon 808, with 3GB RAM and a new f1.8, 16MP camera and has significantly upgraded the front camera to 8MP. We’re interested to see if LG has done anything specific with the Android Lollipop running on the LG G4, so we’ll have to wait a few days to find out.
What do you think about the LG G4? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Dimensions of Samsung’s upcoming 9.7 Inch Galaxy Tab S2 tablet leak, said to be inspired by the Galaxy S6 design
The Galaxy S6 has been available to purchase for a couple of weeks now, and if you haven’t read Rob’s review of it yet, you can catch up here. The review said that the Galaxy S6 was ‘knocking on the door of perfection‘, this bodes well for the upcoming Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 because today’s leak says that it will sport a Galaxy S6 inspired design. More details after the break.
#Samsung‘s 9.7″ Galaxy Tab S2 = Galaxy S6 inspired design ≃ 237.17×169.58×6.4mm
— OnLeaks (@OnLeaks) April 23, 2015
Along with the news about its design inspiration, @OnLeaks also leaked the dimensions of the Galaxy Tab S2 9.7-inch. With dimensions of 237.17 x 169.58 x 6.4mm the 9.7-inch Tab S2 will be unsurprisingly shorter and narrower than its larger 10.5-inch predecessor. The Tab S2 9.7 will also be 0.2mm thinner. The Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 display is rumoured to use a 4:3 aspect ratio, which will please some folks whilst angering others.
It’s believed that the range of Galaxy Tab S2 tablets will be officially announced in mid-2015, which isn’t too far away now. Whether or not we will see the Tab S2 9.7 with a metal and glass construction is anyone’s guess, but it sure would be good to see something different from what we are used to seeing.

Aziz Ansari is getting his own Netflix comedy series
Netflix must have liked the response to Aziz Ansari’s latest stand-up special, as it’s about to give the comedian a lot more screen time. Deadline understands that the streaming service has ordered a 10-episode series co-created by Ansari and Parks and Recreation executive producer Andy Yang. It’s not clear what the plot of the show will be (there’s hints of a semi-autobiographic theme), but it’ll be co-produced by some of Ansari’s Parks and Recreation pals and include guests like Homeland‘s Claire Danes. One thing’s for sure: between this and revivals like Fuller House and Wet Hot American Summer, Netflix is betting heavily on funny fare to keep you as a subscriber.

Plusnet’s jumping on the YouView bandwagon with its own TV service
In recent times, many of the UK’s biggest broadband and TV providers have sought to head off competition by expanding into new markets. Virgin Media, TalkTalk and Sky are betting on mobile, while others are rushing to augment their offerings by diving into TV. Plusnet, which has made a name for itself as a reliable low-cost ISP, is one of these companies. After first trialling a YouView-powered set-top box with employees, then opening a small customer trial, the provider says it will begin offering a new TV bundle to all of its Unlimited Fibre customers.
Commenting on the official YouView forum, a Plusnet representative confirmed that “TV from Plusnet will be launching soon,” while inviting customers to register their interest on its website. It’s actually quite surprising that it’s taken Plusnet this long: the ISP is actually owned by BT, which already offers customers a couple of YouView-powered boxes. It would be safe to assume that BT’s TV offering will feature in some way on a new Plusnet service, but the company is staying tight-lipped at this point. While the operator doesn’t yet offer a mobile service, that could certainly change when BT’s deal to acquire EE is given the green light.

Diabetes app shares your blood sugar levels with strangers
Living with diabetes means tracking your meals and insulin level. The new One Drop app for iOS (an Android version is planned) aims to not only make that monitoring easier, but also use the logged information to help the larger diabetic community. The brainchild of Razorfish co-founder and diabetic Jeff Dachis, the app tracks food intake, insulin levels, medication and exercise. Users can then share that information (either publicly or anonymously) with other One Drop users to help the community learn from one another. They can also encourage each other via likes and stickers and use the gathered data to help inform their own regimen. The app is currently free, but Dachis told TechCrunch a monthly subscription is coming later in the year that would include a stylish bluetooth-enabled glucose meter and test strips.

LG has today announced that the LG Watch Urbane will be the first Android Wear device to receive and be sold with the latest Android Wear update that we detailed a few days ago. Not to be confused with the similarly named LG Watch Urbane LTE which doesn’t run Android Wear, the LG Watch Urbane will start being sold this week in LG’s native Korea, gradually rolling out in other markets including Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Spain, the UK and the US, and it will be available right from the Google Play Store. There’s still been no word on pricing, but we’d be surprised if it got much more than $300 USD, which is pushing it in this current wearable climate.
For those who have forgotten what the LG Watch Urbane is all about (including us), it’s LG latest Android Wear device which incorporates a stainless steel body with genuine leather strap for LG’s most premium smartwatch yet. Inside, though, it’s almost identical to LG’s previous two smartwatches, the LG G Watch and LG G Watch R, though LG is touting two new features available only on the Urbane including LG Call and LG Pulse, the former for making calling easier and the latter for much more accurate fitness tracking.
What do you think about the LG Watch Urbane? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
Press Release
PREMIUM LG WATCH URBANE FIRST NEW
ANDROID WEAR DEVICE TO FEATURE LATEST OSElegantly Designed Smartwatch Rolls Out Worldwide
With Latest Technology and Performance
SEOUL, Apr. 23, 2015 ― LG Electronics (LG) will begin the global rollout of its premium LG Watch Urbane this week in South Korea to be followed by key markets in North America, Europe and Asia in the weeks to come. Customers in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States will be able to purchase the LG Watch Urbane on Google Store starting this month. At MWC 2015, the LG Watch Urbane received numerous awards and accolades from consumers, media and industry thought leaders for its modern design, full-circle Plastic OLED (P-OLED) display and overall usefulness. The LG Watch Urbane carries over the 1.3-inch P-OLED display from the LG G Watch R but features a less prominent and lower profile bezel. Its dimensions are smaller overall and thinner, without reducing the size of the display or the battery. Responding to consumers’ desire for style as well as function, the LG Watch Urbane has a full metal body with a stitched genuine leather strap. The stainless steel body is available in a luxurious polished rose gold and silver, accentuated further with a narrow bezel that gives the device the sleek lines of a classic timepiece. Unlike many other competing smartwatches, the band can be exchanged with any replacement 22mm leather, silicone or metal strap for the ultimate in convenience and personalization.
LG Watch Urbane is the first new smartwatch powered by the latest version of Android Wear which works seamlessly with smartphones running Android 4.3 and above. Some of the features available for the first time on any Android Wear device include Wi-Fi connectivity, always-on apps to keep the display from going dark when running, navigating or even grocery shopping and an improved UX that makes launching favorite apps and getting in touch with friends easier than ever before with everything now front-and-center.
The latest OS allows users to send emojis by drawing them directly on the LG Watch Urbane. Draw a smiley face, a clock showing a certain time or any other pictures and Android Wear will match your drawing to the closest Unicode emoji for sending to another Android Wear watch, smartphone, or computer. Other improvements include the ability to change the font size and see notifications even when looking at another function on the display, such as directions. What’s more, the screen on the LG Watch Urbane can now be set to lock automatically when it is removed from the wrist.
Included in LG Watch Urbane are two new and useful features not available on other Android Wear devices: LG Call and LG Pulse. LG Call allows the wearer to access recent calls and the favorite contacts list on the connected smartphone to dial out directly from the watch. When connected to a Bluetooth headset, there is no need to remove the phone from one’s pocket to place a call. And LG Pulse takes health monitoring to a whole new level by measuring the wearer’s heart rate every second during exercise with no maximum time limit. At the end of the activity, LG Pulse will report the average heart rate over the entire duration of the activity and display a heart rate graph on LG Health (coming soon).
“The LG Watch Urbane is the third Android Wear device introduced by LG in the past year which demonstrates our commitment to this platform,” said Juno Cho, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “More importantly, LG Watch Urbane is a perfect example that Android Wear watches can be functional and beautiful and a useful accessory that complements any wardrobe. No one would mistake LG Watch Urbane for a computer on your wrist.”
Price and additional purchase details will be announced locally at the time of availability.

Apple Stores won’t sell the Watch at launch, but six other shops will
You’ve likely heard or read that Apple’s debut wearable isn’t going to be sold quite like the company’s previous products. Whether it’s about where the demand for the product is coming from (or where Apple hopes the demand will come from), there will be no in-store purchases when the Watch finally lands this Friday. Well, not in Apple’s stores. You might have reserved (past tense there) a Watch online, and made an appointment for a fitting of sorts, but there will actually be some places where you’ll be able to pick one up, cash-in-hand, tomorrow. By some we mean a few. And by few we mean precisely six fashion stores. Scattered across the world.
Maxfield in LA, Colette in Paris, France; the Corner in Berlin, Germany; 10 Corso Como, Milan, Italy and Dover Street Market in both the UK and Japan. According to the New York Times, these high-end boutiques will have their own stocks of the watches – something that wasn’t quite made clear when these locations were announced as places that Apple’s new big thing would be available from. And if you’re looking for the instant retail gratification that only bricks-and-mortar shopping can satisfy, be warned: stocks are limited. Dover Street Market will reportedly have less than 1,000 watches between its two stores. And the VIP-baiting gold Edition (if not the VVIP version), is apparently on back-order.
Update: Befitting their status as classy fashion destinations, many require you to make a reservation for launch day, although you’ll be able to buy the Watch at these appointments and take it home with you.
