“OK OnePlus” Feature Stalled Cyanogenmod 12 Rollout

OnePlus One Cyanogenmod 12

Ever the tease, last week OnePlus started a rollout of a stable version of Cyanogenmod 12, the Android 5.0 Lollipop-based custom ROM, to its venerated One phone. However, what OnePlus, giveth, OnePlus taketh away, and after a few members of the OnePlus One clique actually received the OTA update, the rest were stuck in upgrade limbo, wondering why OnePlus continues to play games with their fragile hearts.

It turns out the noncommittal antics weren’t just in everyone’s collective head, rather, OnePlus paused the CM 12 rollout in order to include the new “OK OnePlus” feature in the update. “Baby, I wasn’t ignoring you! I was just trying to find the perfect way to tell you how much I care,” they said.

And care OnePlus does. Carl Pei, co-founder of the rogue startup, tweeted today about the pause in the rollout. So at least he’s communicating with you even if it’s not in person or by phone.

If “OK OnePlus” sounds eerily similar to “OK Google,” that’s because it’s basically the same thing, except it will even work when the phone is asleep, much like the programmable “OK _____” functions in Motorola phones.

The big bummer here is that it appears the eager suitor jumped the gun with its initial overtures of an OTA update and might actually force early adopters  – the committed ones – to reinstall the update in order to access OK OnePlus. Way to play games with us, guys.

On a personal note, I’ve seen one OnePlus One in the wild thus far in the year or so that it’s existed, and that was as recently as this past Saturday. I know more exist, but I want proof. How many of you are sporting the OnePlus One and where are you at with the OTA update?

I’m still waiting for the CM 12 final release for a Nexus 5. Alas. OnePlus wins again. I know, I know. It’s not me. It’s you.
