Demo Apple Watch Shows 70-Second Startup Time in New Video [iOS Blog]
A new video posted to YouTube over the weekend takes a look at the startup time for a demo Apple Watch, with the device taking exactly 1 minute and 10 seconds to go from a black screen to showcasing the clock face of the Watch. Although that startup time seems lengthy in comparison to those of other Apple products, multiple factors could be affecting the device’s boot process.
The Apple Watch in the video is a demo unit, with internals reportedly very close to retail units, but heavy software customization and other factors particular to the demo setup could be impeding this particular Watch’s boot time. It’s also unclear how much starting up an Apple Watch will be an issue with consumers, with most likely to leave the device on while charging it overnight, similar to an iPhone.
The Apple Watch has been up for pre-order for just over a week, with many models drifting past the initial 4/24-5/8 delivery window from the moment of availability or very soon after, and all models selling out within just a few hours. Customers in the first wave of deliveries should begin getting shipping updates on their Apple Watch orders shortly as the official April 24 launch on Friday draws near.

LG to offer free screen replacement and 64GB memory card with LG G4 in South Korea
LG’s offer for a one-time screen replacement and a 64GB memory card is valid for up to a year after purchasing the device in South Korea. The offer is exclusive just to that country. Specifically, it is valid until May 31, which may mean that the G4 will be launched immediately after its unveiling on April 28.

The OnePlus One is now available without an invite forever, 75% off accessories for 24 hours
It was just about one year ago to the day (actually 4/23) when the OnePlus was announced to the world. It has been a crazy ride for sure with interesting marketing promotions and such. Probably the craziest thing has been the invite system, but that is no more starting today. The OnePlus is now available globally every day of the week, and you don’t need an invite. This isn’t for a limited time either, it’s forever.
Now if you’re starting to get the idea that this no invite system will pass along to the OnePlus 2, think again. OnePlus just announced that the invite system will be back for it.
Now on top of this wonderful news, OnePlus is also taking 75% off OnePlus Flip covers and Premium Screen Protectors for 24 hours. Bamboo StyleSwap covers required an invite, but that has been eliminated for the sale as well (while supplies last). This sale is only available in USA/Canada, the European Union, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.

Korean LG G4 phones to get one year of free screen replacement
The LG G4 is gearing up to be a pretty amazing device. Given that the G3 was heralded as one of the better devices of 2014, the G4 should follow suit and there will be many who will most likely pick it up. That said, it looks like LG is sweeting the pot a little bit by offering a year of free screen replacement if you meet certain criteria.
In order to get the screen replacement, you have to purchase the device before May 31, and you have to be in Korea. Yeah that’s right, this is currently rumored to be a Korean exclusive for the time being. LG is also throwing in a 64GB microSD card into the deal. But that’s not just it.
The phone is set for a Tuesday, April 28, announcement.

Samsung and Partners Healthcare sign agreement to develop mobile health solutions
Samsung and Partners Healthcare announced this morning a new partnership to develop the “next generation of personalized digital and mobile solutions for health and wellness.” A multi-phase deal that will design tools for help with monitoring a variety of health aspects.
The first phase of this partnership will include software development as well as clinical research that will help deliver tools to improve management for chronic diseases. These will include remote monitoring programs that will help both patients and providers manage chronic conditions. Not only that but patients will be able to track their health, share personal health data with their providers securely.
Some of the programs for monitoring include blood pressure, blood glucose and weight. Samsung’s Digital Media and Communications R&D center will oversee the program but it looks like a new age of mobile health monitoring is upon us.

Samsung’s logos absent on the Japanese S6 and S6 Edge
While company and carrier logos are a hot button for people in the United States — thank you Verizon — it may not be that way across the rest of the planet. Even so, Samsung is doing something different in Japan and removing all of its company logos from the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge devices sold there. Instead, the devices are being branded differently.
That’s right, instead of the Samsung Galaxy S6, the devices are being branded as the DoCoMo Galaxy and au Galaxy. There’s nothing from Samsung saying why it agreed to do this with its Japanese carrier partners, so we’re really not sure as to why the company would want to do this.

Leaked pictures reveal that the Honor 7 will pack a fingerprint scanner
Earlier today, a tetrad of leaked images appeared online, revealing the design of Huawei’s upcoming flagship smartphone of 2015, the Honor 7.
After scrutinising the aforementioned photos, we presume that the Honor 7 will sport a larger screen than its predecessor as its backplate is significantly bigger.
There are also two new cutouts on the plate, which we suspect are for a fingerprint scanner and/or heart rate monitor; both largely-rumored features for the forthcoming handset.

Android Wear gets major update with Wi-Fi support, always-on apps, emojis and more
All Android Wear watches will be receiving a major update over the next few weeks, and there are a lot of goodies.
The first one, which was already expected is the support for Wi-Fi. There are often times when you might forget your phone at home or you walk too far away from it within your own house. Now with Wi-Fi support, your watch will always have a connection so you don’t have to worry about missing any notifications.
With many watches offering an always-on display for watch faces, Google is adding support for always-on apps as well. There might be times in which you need to see an app for a longer period of time and that’s exactly where this new feature will come in handy. You even get full color. I am not sure exactly what Google is adding to the code because there are already apps that stay on all the time until I close it. Examples of such apps include Wear Codes and Coffee Time.
Next up seems Apple-watch like with the ability to draw emojis that you can send via message or text.
One of the biggest complaints with Android Wear has been the process in starting an app without voice. Google has added an adjustment in that when you tap on the watch face, you will get a list of apps that you can open right away. Swipe to the left and you will see favorite contacts, and swipe one more time, and you will see the familiar “Speak Now” screen that you get now.
All in all, this looks like a pretty good update. As I mentioned already, the update will roll out to all seven watches in the next few weeks. The LG Watch Urbane will be the first to get the update though.

Your Android Wear devices will work even when your phone’s at home
There’s a new kid on the smartwatch block, which means that Google needs to make sure that its own gear is ready for the challenge. That’s why the company is pushing out new features to its Android Wear devices in the coming weeks. The biggest addition is probably WiFi support that’ll let you connect to your smartphone even if it isn’t in your pocket. Should you, for instance, head out to the coffee shop and leave your phone at home, then you’ll still receive notifications as long as both are connected to the internet.
As you can see in the GIF above, another big addition is the ability to cycle through cards without getting fingerprint marks on the screen. Simply flick your wrist away from your body to move forward and do the opposite to take a step back should you miss anything. Google has also enabled apps to take advantage of the always-on display and you can respond to messages with emoji straight from your wrist. The rollout will begin with LG’s Watch Urbane and will spread across the rest of the range in the next few weeks.

EE’s free portable chargers prove so popular there aren’t any left
Mobile operators very rarely offer something for free, so when they do, you can expect that people will be quick to take advantage. That’s exactly what’s happened in the case of EE, which has seen over a million of its subscribers sign up for one of its free branded “Power Bars” in just four days. The rush for the 2,600mAh blue and yellow charger helped drive a 300 percent increase in visitors to stores over the weekend, inevitably resulting in a complete wipeout of stock.
The good news is that if you’ve already sent in your text and received a code, you should still be able to head into your local store and claim your free gift. If you haven’t, but still want to juice your phone on the go, EE says it’s taking a “power pause” to replenish stock, which means you’ll have to wait until the end of June to fill your boots. Luckily, the Power Bar shortage won’t affect your ability to swap your empty charger for a fully charged replacement if you’re caught short while out and about.
