VPN Unlimited: A lifetime of safeguarded activity, $39

Several celebrities like Katy Perry, Drake, and Pharrell Williams have been spotted with the gold Apple Watch Edition ahead of the device’s launch, but Apple gifted designer Karl Lagerfeld with something even more special — a custom gold Apple Watch with a gold Link Bracelet.
In an image shared on Instagram by Lagerfeld’s assistant and bodyguard Sebastian Jondeau, Lagerfeld wears a yellow gold Apple Watch with the one-of-a-kind yellow gold Link Bracelet, which Jondeau says was “specially made” by Apple.

Karl Lagerfeld is a well-known fashion designer who’s the head of both Chanel and Fendi, in addition to his own fashion house. Lagerfeld was present at the Apple Watch’s first public appearance at French Parisian boutique Colette and as a style icon, he could be an important asset for Apple’s Apple Watch marketing efforts.
Though there’s a Link Bracelet for the Silver and Space Gray stainless steel Apple Watches, Apple did not make a similar band available for the gold Apple watch Edition, presumably due to price and the sheer amount of gold that would be necessary for such a band. The existence of a custom gold Link Bracelet does, however, suggest that such a band could be made available to the public in the future.
Just the gold used in the Modern Buckle band raises the price of the Apple Watch Edition from $10,000 (with Sport band) to $17,000, so the price of a pure gold Link Bracelet would likely be upwards of $25,000. The Link Bracelet for the standard Apple Watch is priced at $449 and is Apple’s most expensive band.
As we creep closer to the April 24 launch of the Apple Watch, we may see more custom designs like this on the wrists of celebrities and other fashion designers as Apple hopes to use these influencers to convince people to drive Apple Watch sales.
(Thanks, John!)
The Philae comet lander might be slumbering, but it can still teach you a thing or two about the nature of celestial bodies. European Space Agency researchers have compared Philae’s data against the more distant Rosetta probe, and they’ve discovered that Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko isn’t magnetized. If it’s representative of other comets, that suggests that magnetic fields aren’t nearly as important in planetary formation as scientists thought — these clumps of dust are forming simply through collisions, and magnetism only factors in when there’s enough material for gravity to take over. It could take a long while before there’s stronger proof of that theory, but it’s already clear that some previously-held beliefs about comets were off the mark.

Today Huawei officially launched their new flagship smartphone, the Huawei P8, and its larger companion device the Huawei P8max. With a focus on design, some user interface innovations, and new camera features, Huawei hopes the device will continue the success they have achieved with the last couple devices in their P series line of devices.
Amidst talk of inspiration from traditional books, ancient manuscripts and the beauty of stained glass windows, Huawei revealed the new P8 which is only 6.4mm thick. Packed inside the thin frame is the company’s own Kirin 930 64-bit octa-core processor. Huawei claims the Kirin 930 chip outperforms other processors on the market by approximately 20 percent while providing similar battery life.
The body of the Huawei P8 uses a triple-layer construction that the company describes as a “shark-gill” design. The back cover is constructed of steel, which Huawei says adds structural rigidity to the device. Huawei is also making an optional E-ink screen available on the back cover so that the device can be utilized as an eBook in mere seconds.
Huawei announced that the interface includes a few innovations like the ability to double-tap with a knuckle to grab a screenshot or drawing a circle to capture content. Another feature called “search phone by voice” is unique in that a user can just call out to their phone when it has been misplaced and the device will respond using its speaker to help it find its way home.
Finally, Huawei indicates they have added some new features to the camera in the device and the camera app to help users be more creative. The camera sensor is the world’s first four-color RGBW unit which Huawei says enhances brightness by 32 percent in high contrast lighting situations and reduces it by 78 percent in low light environments. Huawei claims the camera’s image processing is on par with DSLR cameras. Huawei also added some capabilities for users to manually control the camera shutter, a capability they are calling “Light Painting” mode, that will let users slow things down for interesting night shots. The camera app is also capable of showing the users a live preview of what a shot will look like. On the video side, Huawei added a “Director” mode that will let users control up to three other Android phones so they can shoot a scene from four different angles simultaneously with all of the clips synched.
According to Huawei CEO Richard Yu,
“Huawei seamlessly combines the best elements of style and durability in this device, delivering a revolutionary user experience – especially in terms of camera capabilities and network connectivity. Building on the outstanding market performance of Huawei’s P series, we fully believe the Huawei P8 will become one of the most popular smartphones of 2015.”
Along with the Huawei P8, Huawei also launched a variant, the P8max. The Huawei P8max features a 6.8-inch screen and a larger 4360 mAh battery. The screen is full HD 16:9 FHD screen. Even with the larger screen and battery, Huawei kept the thickness of the device at only 6.8 mm.
Unlike the “shark-gill” construction of the P8, the P8max is cut from a single block of “aerospace grade” aluminum. One hazard of using a block of aluminum is heat dissipation from the electronics inside the device. Huawei says they have implemented some DX19 high thermal conductivity alloy to help keep the device cool in the hands of users.
Huawei indicates the new Huawei P8 will be available in more than 30 countries, though not in the U.S., with the price for the standard version set at €499 ($530 USD) and the premium version priced at €599 ($636 USD). The P8max pricing starts at €549 ($582 USD) for the standard version and €649 ($689 USD) for the premium version.

Earlier today, an unannounced Huawei smartphone made a pitstop at the United States of America’s official certification authority — the FCC. Information included in the brief filing documentation reveals that we are probably looking at a US variant of the company’s recently-announced flagship device, the P8.
Unfortunately, the paperwork doesn’t disclose anything about the internals of this specific handset, but we do know that it’s set to pack a variety of different connectivity options, (including support for 4G carrier bands 2 4, 5, 7 and 13), Bluetooth Class 1 (Version 4.0, LE+EDR), 802.11b/802.11g/802.11n Wi-Fi (dual-band), NFC and GPS.
However, the unit does appear to have faced some minor design changes. From the image included in the FCC listing, we can see that both the camera and flash has been moved to the opposite side of the device.

Hot on the heels of the LG G2, AT&T’s Samsung Galaxy S5 Active and Galaxy Alpha are now beginning to receive the update to Android 5.0 Lollipop. The Galaxy S5 Active’s update comes in at a hefty 1.4GB download, and the Alpha’s at 1GB. AT&T requires you to download the updates over Wi-Fi, so make sure your phone is charged up and you’re connected to a speedy Wi-Fi network before you start the download.

Just like on most other Samsung devices, the Lollipop update will bring along with it many UI enhancements, but they won’t be very prominent thanks to Samsung’s Touchwiz overlay. Other changes you’ll find in the update include the switch to the Android Runtime (ART), priority mode notification settings, new battery saving features, Smart Lock, more fluid animations and much more.
The updates to both devices are rolling out now, but it may take a few days to make their way to your device. If you’d like to check manually, head to Settings>About device>Software updates>Check for updates. Once the update is downloaded and installed, your Galaxy S5 Active’s software version should now read LRX21T.G870AUCU1BOC5 and your Alpha’s software version will read LRX22G.G850AUCU1BOC6. Be sure to let us know in the comments when you start receiving the update!

The 1st Generation Moto G doesn’t have the best specs on the market, but it’s still decent for a budget-friendly smartphone. The Moto G has a 4.5-inch 720p display, a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 processor with an Adreno 305 GPU, a 5MP rear-facing camera and a 2MP front-facing camera.

It would appear that Amazon is looking to wrangle in some new Prime customers with a new promotion that is set to take place all day Friday, April 17th. Under normal circumstances you ned to have a Prime account to watch Prime Instant Videos or purchase them separately. However, Amazon is attempting to lure you in to the service with all of season one of Orphan Black, which is 10 episodes, of the show without Prime. It is a very limited offer, but a person could feasibly get through the whole season in one day.
“Orphan Black has been extremely popular with Prime members since the series became available exclusively in Prime Instant Video–that’s why we’re excited to make season one available to all customers for free, for a day,” said Michael Paull, Vice President of Digital Video at Amazon. “We saw an incredible response when we made our Golden Globe-winning original series Transparent available to everyone, so we’re giving customers an opportunity to try out another great series that Prime members already love.”
The show is a pretty great story of a street smart girl named Sarah who witnessed a suicide of a girl that looked just like her. Thinking the best course of action was to steal her identity and drain her bank account, she quickly found out she had inserted herself into a deadly conspiracy. Now she has to stay alive, keep others alive and battle a mega corporation. It really is a pretty good show.
Anyone with a Fire TV, Fire TV Stick, Fire Tablet or Fire Phone will have access pretty easily. Everyone else will need to grab the Amazon Prime Instant Video app or log on to Amazon.com/PIV to catch all of season one.
