‘Fleksy Keyboard’ Partners With Riffsy for GIFs, Goes Free for a Week [iOS Blog]
Fleksy today announced a new partnership with Riffsy, which will integrate Riffsy’s GIF Keyboard into the Fleksy Keyboard for iOS, giving users access to GIFs within Fleksy for the first time. With the addition of GIFs, Fleksy Keyboard is now able to offer millions of GIFs along with its existing keyboard capabilities and emoji integration.
Riffsy’s GIF Keyboard is a popular choice for users who want to insert GIFs directly into iMessages and other iPhone correspondence, and all of the GIF Keyboard features will now be available in Fleksy, including search, the ability to browse by category, and access to trending GIFs.

The partnership makes it easier than ever before to share highly expressive content across iMessage, SMS, Twitter, email and Facebook. Users will be able to send GIFs instantly, right from within their main keyboard. All this is made possible thanks to the new features of iOS 8 and the great GIF support that the Apple platform has offered.
In celebration of the new partnership, Fleksy is running a promotion that makes the Fleksy Keyboard free to download for the course of the next week. The app is normally priced at $0.99, and this marks the first time Fleksy has gone free since it became a full keyboard replacement alongside the release of iOS 8.
Fleksy Keyboard can be downloaded from the App Store for free. [Direct Link]
Griffin Debuts Cove Recharging Center for Charging Five iOS Devices at Once [iOS Blog]
Griffin today launched an Indiegogo campaign for its upcoming Cove Recharging Center, a new charging management and device storage system designed to be used in the home. The Griffin Cove is able to store and charge up to five tablets, smartphones, or other electronic devices at one time in one compact location.
To develop its charging station, Griffin visited people in their homes to discover pain points with their current charging systems and used that data to design a product that people will want to use. Griffin’s aim with the Cove was to develop a central hub that could accommodate the devices of the entire family, as one of the the most requested features was the ability to charge multiple devices at once.
The Cove has a neutral, modern design that’s meant to fit in with a wide range of home decor styles, with a shell that features wood veneering at the top and wool lining on each of the three shelf layers. There are slots for charging five USB devices at once, and on the left, there’s a box that contains all cables, cords, and power sources, keeping them organized and out of site. The entire box has a pull-down lid that keeps devices and cords alike hidden from view, and the front lid can also be used as a stand.
It has five 12-watt USB ports, so it can offer speedy charging for devices like the iPhone and the iPad. It includes a ChargeSensor circuit that detects what type of device is being plugged in, what power it needs, and whether it’s an Apple device or an Android. That way it directs the right amount of power wherever it needs to go.
It measures 16.8 inches wide, 12.8 inches deep, and seven inches tall, so it will fit comfortably under shelves and cabinets when placed in an office or in the kitchen. The main power cord is six inches long, and it will ship with UK and EU plug adapters.

It’s unusual for a well-established company like Griffin to launch a product on Indiegogo, and Griffin told MacRumors that the reason for the crowdfunding campaign is to allow the company to get immediate feedback from people on the design and function of the Cove. Since the data and research for the Cove came directly from consumers, Griffin thought that a crowdfunding campaign launch would make sense.
We think this platform will allow us to engage more closely with a smaller audience who might otherwise go unnoticed in the traditional retail model. We view Indiegogo as the shortest, straightest line between the need for a beautiful, design-sensitive charging hub and our idea for Cove.
Griffin Cove is available for the next two days at the early bird price of $150, and after that, the price will go up to $200. The Griffin Cove will ship out to consumers in late 2015.
Deal Alert: Google drops Moto 360 price to $165

There have been plenty of excellent deals on Motorola’s Moto 360 smartwatch lately, but Google latest offers tops them all. The Moto 360 is now available for just $165 from the Google Store, a full $85 off the regular retail price. Now seems like the perfect opportunity to grab one if you’ve been putting off your purchase.
The discount price includes your choice of black or stone leather straps and comes with the usual charging dock and wall charger. Motorola is also throwing in free shipping, just for good measure.
With rumors suggesting that a second generation Moto 360 may be right around the corner, Google could be clearing out stock ahead of another smartwatch launch. Even so, this is still a great price if you’re eager to see what Android Wear is all about.

How electrifying the brain wards off Parkinson’s disease
Implanting electrodes in the brain and zapping it helps patients with Parkinson’s and other disorders, but doctors have never been sure why, exactly. Now, researchers from UC San Francisco think that the therapy (called deep-brain stimulation, or DBS) works by altering neural timings, in much the same way a defibrillator resets heart rhythms. In a healthy brain, neuron firing is controlled by low frequency rhythms that sync up movement, memory and other functions. But the UC team found that the synchronization is too strong in Parkinson’s patients, making it harder for them to move voluntarily.
The brain needs a balance between autonomy and rhythm, which is where DBS comes in. The implants appear to lower the overly lock-step synchronization, improving patient coordination and other symptoms. But the invasive, six-hour-long surgery requires implanting probes into deep brain structures and the patient must be awakened mid-surgery to test it out — so anything that can make it more effective is helpful. According to the researchers, “we can (now) begin to think of new ways for stimulators to be automatically controlled by brain activity, which is the next innovation in treatment for movement disorders.”

Korea report: Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge sales surpass expectations

Industry sources from Korea report that sales of the curved Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge flagship are much higher than anticipated, with supply now unlikely to be able to keep up with demand. Currently, the S6 Edge accounts for approximately 50 percent of all Galaxy S6 model shipments worldwide, according to industry insiders, which far surpasses market estimates of 20 to 30 percent of Galaxy S6 sales.
In Korea, combined S6 and S6 Edge pre-orders reached 300,000 units, exceeding early expectations and putting the range on track to be the most popular Galaxy handset. A trend which has also been noted by US carrier T-Mobile. However, Samsung admits that it has failed to make accurate predictions about S6 Edge sales volumes, which may result in some retailers left without stock in the near future.
Samsung Mobile CEO JK Shin has previous stated that Galaxy S6 Edge production will be limited for some time, suggesting that Edge sales may slow once existing stock is used up. Although Shin hasn’t confirmed the source of the issue or how long the company expects it to last, sources say that the supply shortage could last for at least a month.
Sources say that the supply shortage could last for at least a month
While Samsung is already rumored to be ramping up production in response to strong early sales figures, the expense and difficulty involved in producing the curved AMOLED display in the Edge is likely to prevent Samsung from meeting all of the demand.
Reportedly, Samsung’s China-based supplier of curved glass is operating with a 50% yield rate and is limited to just 6.5 million units of production this quarter. To reach an increasing sales target, the company may have to look for an additional display supplier.

Despite the huge price tag, the unique look, strong internal hardware and new features such as Samsung Pay appear to be driving demand for the Galaxy S6 Edge. A strong performance from this year’s flagship is exactly what Samsung needs if it wants to begin regaining some of its lost market share and improving its stalling profit levels.
While it obviously sounds better to be selling out than having stock left on the shelves, Samsung will need to address the supply situation promptly to avoid losing sales to other high-end Android flagships.

By now, you will have heard that Samsung‘s flagship devices, the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, are quite amazing devices. Accordingly, they are extremely popular pretty much everywhere that they have gone on sale, so it should come as no surprise that both devices are killing it in Samsung’s native South Korea. Yonhap News is reporting that sales for the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge have been “much higher than expected” and that sales have reached an “all-time high” compared to previous Galaxy S devices, and that’s high praise indeed seeing as the Galaxy S4 sold like hotcakes too.
What’s most interesting is that up to 50% of the sales in Korea have been for the S6 Edge, the more expensive of the two flagship. Even an anonymous Samsung official has admitted that their company had “failed to make a precise prediction of demand”, which isn’t exactly a bad problem to have, but customers wanting the S6 Edge might have to wait a little longer for theirs as Samsung catches up on supply. You can bet that Samsung will come out with some pretty impressive statistics in the next few days to highlight exactly how good sales have been.

No, that’s not a typo in the title. Yes, even before the Sony Xperia Z4 has been announced, we’re getting out first rumour about the Sony Xperia Z5. Specifically, the rumour alleges that the Xperia Z5, along with a Z5 Ultra and Z5 Compact, will be released in Q4 this year. What’s interesting is that the rumour says that the Xperia Z5 and Z5 Ultra will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, and that there is leeway for the launch to slip to January if the chip ends up being late – we’re assuming the Z5 Compact would get the same treatment, as before.
But that’s not all – the rumour reports that the Z5 Ultra will come with a fingerprint sensor, the first in the Xperia Z family to do so. In addition, the Xperia Z5 and Z5 Ultra will allegedly be coming with Quad HD displays, as is the new norm at the flagship level. But the most surprising rumour of them all is that the Xperia Z5 series will be a “completely new design” when compared to the Xperia Z4 – some would call going from the Xperia Z2 to the Xperia Z3 a completely overhaul, but we can only wait and see if this part of the rumour is true.
