What is Microsoft Office 365?

With the addition of free Office 365 subscriptions to the purchase of small tablets and now new Lumia phones, there’s never been a better time to try it out.

But while the name is thrown around a lot, it’s perfectly reasonable to ask yourself: “What is Office 365?”

Let’s break it down.

Get endless hours of arcade hopping fun with Super Crossy

As a child of the eighties, one of the classic arcade games I probably spent way too much time playing was Frogger. The goal of that game was to navigate your frog from the bottom of the screen across the road or river which contained various obstacles that moved horizontally such as motor vehicles, logs, and alligators. Being that this is now 2015, it was only natural, we would see similar type games available on various platforms. For instance, Crossy Road, which we saw earlier this year.

Lollipop update rolling out for Verizon LG G3

The Lollipop update for the LG G3 on Verizon is available right now through the Verizon software upgrade tool on Windows computers, and the over-the-air update should follow shortly.

Verizon has updated the LG G3 support page with details about the Lollipop update for the device. When the website gets updated it usually signifies an over-the-air release of the update is coming. Some users have already been able to download and install it from the Verizon software upgrade tool, which unfortunately only works on Windows-based computers.

In the last couple of years the sizes of smartphone screen have seen a dramatic change where screen sizes are concerned. What used to be the norm of a small 2-inch, 3-inch screen is now seen as paltry compared to the much larger 5.5-inch screens of the modern phablet smartphone. The want for bigger screen sizes though has also brought the need for higher resolutions. A 5-inch screen might sounds like a good idea at first, but if it has a really low resolution, the images are going to look distorted and you might as well have just gotten a smaller phone in the first place.

Thankfully then, it appears that manufactures are always one step ahead as Techblog today is announcing that Sharp is working on a 5.5-inch 4K display with a whopping 3840 × 2160 resolution. That’s a lot of pixels condensed in such a small space. Sharp states that event though the screen resolution will be considerably bigger (we all know that pixels love consuming power), the screen will still be battery efficient and have low power consumption. For now we can’t really know much as the screens are not slated to be used on smartphones until later next year (and Chinese manufacturers will be the first to have access to them). If you wish to know more about the screens, you can follow the link below for more information.

Muzei Live Wallpaper Logo

There is a plethora of apps out there that allow you to customize just about every single thing on your android smartphone without even rooting. That is why we have started the weekly series “Monday Makeover.” Each week we will take one of these customization apps and talk about setting it up, discuss the features of it, and show you how you can make your android device truly one of a kind. Last week we talked about UCCW. This week we are taking a look at Muzei, an awesome live wallpaper app.

What is Muzei?Screenshot_2015-04-06-16-11-32

Muzei is a live wallpaper app that applies a new, beautiful piece of artwork as your wallpaper every day. Even with the busiest and more colorful artwork, Muzei makes sure your apps and widgets standout from your wallpaper by automatically blurring and dimming your wallpaper to create a gorgeous background for your homescreen icons to live. A quick double tap of your homescreen will revert the blurred wallpaper to the original so that you and others can admire your beautiful background. After a few seconds, the wallpaper will dim and blur again in a smooth animation. If artwork is not your style, you can choose to have your own pictures displayed as your background. One of the best features of Muzei is that it offers an API so that developers can create their own wallpaper source. That means people can create apps that work with Muzei to apply certain pictures as your background.

Why should I use Muzei?

Muzei adds something to your phone’s appearance that no other app provides. The blurring effect can create a more beautiful background than any picture you could find. Also, you can use your own pictures in Muzei and have the shuffled through at a regular pace. The addition of apps that work with Muzei gives you even more wallpaper possibilities. All of these wallpapers plus the constant refreshing of a new wallpaper means that your phone always looks new.

How do I use Muzei?

Not only is Muzei a beautiful app, it is also extremely easy to use. After activating Muzei, you will be brought to the normal Android wallpaper screen. Selecting “Settings” will bring you into the Muzei customization settings. You will first be brought to the “Sources” menu. Here, you can select where you want your wallpapers to come from. The default to “Featured Art” which will add a new artwork as your wallpaper every day.

Screenshot_2015-04-06-16-15-10“My Photos” will apply random photos from your phone as your wallpaper. Selecting this source will bring up a settings gear to further customize what photos show up. Selecting that settings gear will bring up a new screen where you can add specific photos to be shuffled through. Once you add photos to this screen, only the photos placed there will be used as wallpapers. The clock in the top right lets you change how often the wallpaper is changed, from never to three days.

If you have any other sources downloaded, they will appear on the source selection screen, too. To discover more apps, you can tap the menu in the “Sources” screen and select “Get more sources.” This will open the Play Store and show you a list of all the add-on sources there are.Muzei settings

Back the the “Sources” screen, you can on Sources to go into the “Advanced” menu. Here, you can select how blurred, dimmed, and greyed your wallpapers become. You can also have a notification appear every time your wallpaper changes. You are also given the option to have your wallpaper blurred on the lockscreen.

After you have selected what source you want for your wallpaper, tapping the checkmark in the top left will bring you back to the default Android wallpaper screen. You can select “Set Wallpaper” and that is all it takes. Now you have a beautifully blurred wallpaper that constantly changes to keep your homescreen looking fresh.

Where do I get Muzei?

You can get Muzei for free in the Google Play Store. There are no ads and no pro version so you get all the features of Muzei free. All of the add-on sources are available through the Play Store, too. Many of them are also free.

Muzei is one of the easiest ways to always make sure you phone has a new look. Since the wallpapers change constantly, you always have something different to look at. Plus, the blurred and dimmed images make it easier to see all the apps and widgets on your homescreen. Muzei is definitely recommended for anyone who is looking for a cool way to display their wallpapers. Are you going to use Muzei or have you used it in the past? Tell us your thoughts on it in the comments. And while you are down there, leave a suggestion for an app you would like to see featured in a future Monday Makeover! Have a great week!

Amazon adds IMDb-fueled X-Ray for Movies to Fire TV

Amazon’s X-Ray for Movies and TV Shows feature is great when you’re trying to figure out the name of the actor on your screen. Today that feature is hitting Amazon Instant Video on the Fire TV which is frankly where it should have been since the set-top box’s launch. The IMDb-powered X-Ray feature brings many of the same attributes found on the Kindle Fire tablet to your television. To activate it, viewers can either pause what they are watching or press up on the remote’s directional button to see the names of the actors and music playing in the current scene. Pressing up a second time drops the viewer into the full X-Ray environment with access to to information about the actors, characters, music, and IMDb’s user-submitted trivia.

X-Ray on the Fire TV also features the ability to jump directly to scenes and musical numbers in a movie or TV show. If you really want to only listen to the songs from Frozen, it can be done even if it means angering everyone within a half-block radius. Unfortunately, when you select a song or soundtrack from the X-Ray screen, you can’t launch Amazon Music to purchase of listen to the album. Amazon says that it’s working on implementing that feature in the future.

Amazon isn’t the only streaming service that surfaces actor information. Hulu’s Face Match brings up an actors name and bio when you hover over their face. Google Play Movies and TV uses info cards to display an actors name and bio when you tap on their face. Starting today though, only Amazon’s feature works with a set-top box without casting.

If you have a Fire TV or Fire TV Stick, the X-Ray update will be rolling out to both devices by the end of the day.

Dead Trigger 2 Review – Zombies, Zombies and more Zombies

Dead Trigger 2 hit the Windows Phone Store earlier this month and joins the ranks of quality Windows Phone games such as Dead Earth: Trigger Man and Dead Target: Zombie. As you might guess, Dead Trigger 2 is a first person shooter where you roam the world killing the walking dead.

The graphics with Dead Trigger 2 are well drawn up and game play has its fair share of challenges. The game includes over 600 game play scenarios that are staged across 10 global regions. Along with the storyline gaming mode, Dead Trigger 2 also has global tournaments to compete in. If you are looking for a quality Windows Phone game to spend a few minutes with or for longer spurts, Dead Trigger 2 will fit either need rather nicely. Unfortunately for some, Dead Trigger 2 is not available for low-memory Windows Phones.

There is a great news for Sprint customers who are planning to buy a new phone or upgrade their old phones. With the introduction of its Direct 2 You service, Sprint is aiming to provide the store like environment in the comfort of your home, workplace or Starbucks – whichever you happen to prefer.

All you have to do, is buy a Sprint mobile phone, tablet or a wireless device and Sprint will send a trained expert to deliver it at a location of your choosing. Not only will he deliver your product but he will also set it up and transfer all of their content, including contacts, pictures, videos and apps, from your old device to a new one. Also, the service doesn’t cost any extra dime.

“What make this unique is that we will deliver pretty much anywhere: Starbucks, work, home, at the gym — we can do all those different things, and it’s an exact-on-time delivery,” Sprint VP Rod Millar was quoted as saying.

While the Direct 2 You is currently only available in Kansas City – Sprint’s hometown, it will be rolled out in all major metropolitan areas by the end of the year to make wireless shopping more convenient.

On April 20, Sprint Direct 2 You will be available in the Chicago and Miami markets, with expansion nationally expected to follow throughout 2015.

If you are eligible for an upgrade, here are the steps that you need to follow.

  • Once you receive an offer to upgrade, call the Sprint phone number or reply to the email that informed you about the offer, and schedule an appointment for this free service.
  • A Direct 2 You Expert will arrive whenever and wherever you request and activate your new phone for you as per your liking.
  • You can choose to recycle or reuse your old phone

Xbox Live members get the ‘Game of Thrones’ premiere for free

If you’ve resisted piracy’s siren call, you now have another way to catch the season premiere of Game of Thrones. Xbox Live members with an Xbox One or 360 can now stream the Season 5 premier gratis until April 16th, including extra content like trailers, on-set tours and blooper reels. The episode debuted on HBO and its $15/month streaming HBO Go service last night, to largely solid reviews (spoilers at that link). It looks like the extra is only available in the US due to HBO’s complex foreign syndication, but it’s good news if you didn’t want to sign up with HBO just for GoT and have Xbox Live.
