On April 15 Rogers will expand on their popular ‘Roam Like Home” program to include 35 countries across Europe. In the new countries, Rogers will allow customers to send emails, picture messages, make phone calls, and browse the internet for a flat $10 per day fee. Previously Rogers offered the plan for customers who were traveling to the US, and wanted to use their Rogers data and minutes.
“Canadians used to be afraid to use their devices when travelling – it was just too complicated and they were worried about their bills. Six months ago we fixed this with a unique technology called ROAM LIKE HOME and over a million of our customers are enrolled to use it. They are now using their phone in the U.S. just like they would at home,” said Guy Laurence, President and Chief Executive Officer, Rogers Communications. “Given how much customers love ROAM LIKE HOME in the U.S. it made sense to expand it so now our customers can use it in over 35 European countries.”
Most carriers charge a ridiculous fee, giving you a small data allotment for any trip out of the known coverage area. We have seen US based carriers make moves to allow for customers to use their data for a cheaper price when traveling, and now Rogers is bringing the same to Canada. The plans start on April 15, so if you will be taking a trip out of the country, contact Rogers to have the ‘Roam Like Home’ feature added to your account.

TORONTO, April 10, 2015 /CNW/ – Rogers Communications is once again shaking up Canada’s wireless industry by extending its popular ROAM LIKE HOMETM offer to over 35 countries in Europe. Starting April 15, Rogers customers can talk, text, send emails, share photos and surf in more than 35 European countries for a flat fee of $10/day with ROAM LIKE HOME on their Share EverythingTM plans.
“Canadians used to be afraid to use their devices when travelling – it was just too complicated and they were worried about their bills. Six months ago we fixed this with a unique technology called ROAM LIKE HOME and over a million of our customers are enrolled to use it. They are now using their phone in the U.S. just like they would at home,” said Guy Laurence, President and Chief Executive Officer, Rogers Communications. “Given how much customers love ROAM LIKE HOME in the U.S. it made sense to expand it so now our customers can use it in over 35 European countries.”
According to a recent survey, 60 per cent of Canadians aren’t using their phones like they do at home when they travel to Europe. Nearly six million Canadians plan on visiting Europe in the next year. Nine out of 10 Canadians said if cost and confusion around roaming were not an issue, they would use their mobiles and tablets just like they do at home – to keep in touch with friends and family (84 per cent), email (82 per cent), look at maps and directions (76 per cent), check the weather (68 per cent), find local restaurants and attractions (66 per cent), and share pictures (57 per cent).
Customers travelling to Europe will pay only $10 per day when roaming within an eligible country and only be charged for a maximum of 10 days on each monthly bill or a maximum of $100. They will have access to the data and the unlimited talk and text included in their Share Everything plan. Calls and texts to local numbers in the country they’re visiting or back to Canada are included and no long distance charges will apply for those calls.
Share Everything customers already enrolled in ROAM LIKE HOME U.S. don’t have to do anything to use it in Europe. They can simply start using their devices while travelling to Europe and will enjoy the new flat fee roaming rate of $10 per day. Our flat fee roaming rate when travelling to the U.S. will remain $5 per day. Existing Share Everything customers, including small businesses, can enroll by texting “travel” to 222 for free before they leave or once they’ve landed in the U.S. or eligible European countries. New Share Everything customers will be automatically enrolled so they can immediately take advantage of this technology, and can opt out at any time.
BitTorrent’s secure web browser one step closer to release
Last we heard of BitTorrent’s Project Malestrom it was going into alpha. Well, the peer-to-peer outfit’s browser has made its way to the next logical step: beta. New additions include stability improvements, support for auto-updates and, for the first time, tools for its some 10,000 web developers to “leverage the efficiency of BitTorrent technology in their content and interactive experiences.” For a peek at exactly what that means, the open beta for Windows users is available at the links below.

Microsoft revamps Bing.com design for iOS users with new sections
Microsoft has launched a revamped design for its Bing.com homepage for iOS browser users, with a number of new features and changes.
Safari browser users can now swipe up to see the sections on the Bing.com home page. They will also notice a new translucent color scheme. Users can tap on the Image of the Day’s caption to bring up a card revealing more information on that photo. The “Popular Now” section that was visable on the Bing.com desktop homepage is now available on the mobile homepage. Microsoft says:
News consumption is a common activity on mobile devices. We also know that on Bing.com desktop, the homepage news carousel at the bottom of the page is one of the most highly engaged features, connecting users to news stories across the web. With that in mind, we are bringing the desktop’s news carousel experience to mobile. We select the top trending stories for you and update them throughout the day. Moving forward, we will continue to make these stories even more relevant and personal.
There’s also a new Bing Rewards card on the page for members of that program to keep track of their points, along with a Settings card and one for users to send feedback about their Bing.com experience back to Microsoft.

Apple reportedly in talks to secure exclusives from Taylor Swift, others for rumored music service
Apple is reportedly in talks with both Taylor Swift and Florence and the Machine to offer exclusive releases on its rumored upcoming streaming service.
Along with the above artists, the report mentions that Apple is in talks with over a dozen others for exclusive releases on the as well. Bloomberg reports:
Apple Inc. has asked Florence and the Machine and more than a dozen other artists for exclusive deals to promote a revamped Beats Music, and persuade people to ante up for what they’re accustomed to getting pretty much for free.
The company’s in talks with the British group, which is set to release an album in June, about giving Apple limited streaming rights to a track, and has approached Taylor Swift and others about partnerships, according to people familiar with the matter. The idea is that exclusives will be bait for music lovers loathe to pay for subscriptions.
While it was previously reported that Apple was pursuing deals for exclusive releases on the service, this report marks the first mention of which artists Apple could be targeting. Exclusive releases from Taylor Swift and Florence and the Machine, among other artists, could potentially give Apple’s rumored streaming service a leg up over rivals such as Spotify and Rdio. Additionally, Apple would do well to secure deals to combat Tidal, which was recently relaunched with significant support from music giants such as Beyoncé, Kanye West, and Rihanna.
The report goes on to mention that Apple is planning to debut the service at a price of $9.99 per month for individuals (which lines up with previous reports), along with a $14.99 plan for families, similar to the Beats Music family plan that was offered through AT&T.
The new service, which will integrate the functionality of the current Beats app with the iOS Music app, is widely expected to be announced sometime around WWDC 2015, which usually takes place in June.

OS 10.3.1.2726 update files now available for all BlackBerry 10 smartphones
If you’re among those who simply must have the latest OS, even if it means loading it through some unconventional ways, you’ll be pleased to know that OS 10.3.1.2726 update files are now available for all BlackBerry 10 smartphones including the technically not yet available BlackBerry Leap. Autoloaders for the files have yet to be created but given all the needed files are available for them to be created, you can either make your own or wait for someone else to build them.
iPhoto and Aperture no longer available for purchase from the Mac App Store
Apple’s iPhoto and Aperture photo editing and management applications have been removed from the Mac App Store.
Following the release of OS X 10.10.3 earlier this week, which included the new Photos app for OS X, Apple has removed iPhoto and Aperture from the Mac App Store. Both apps are now unavailable for purchase, though they can still be downloaded from the Purchases tab in the store by those who already own the applications.
While Photos will serve as the primary way to manage and edit your photos on OS X going forward, dedicated users of iPhoto and Aperture might want to hold on to those apps for right now. Tim Cook declares that Apple Watch pre-orders have been ‘great’
Apple CEO Tim Cook stated today in a quick interview that pre-orders for the Apple Watch have been “great”.

In a chat with CNBC at the Apple Store in Palo Alto, California, Cook said he has been receiving reports about the Apple Watch from around the world this morning and says the reaction from consumers have been “extraordinary”. He added
“Customers have been giving us great feedback and orders have been great, as well.”
Cook was wearing the stainless Apple Watch with white sport band, as he’s often done, during his Palo Alto Apple Store visit. Cook said this particular band is the one he wears the most.
“I love it. I exercise in it and wear it most of the day, but I get a couple of other bands too because I also like to change them out..”
Cook naturally didn’t offer CNBC any specific Apple Watch pre-order numbers today during his store visit, but if you look closely you can see Apple’s CEO chatting briefly with our own Rene Ritchie at the beginning of the video.
