Threes! developer hints at Windows Phone version of hit game
Threes! is a big name game, having first been named 2014 iPhone game of the year, then finding its home as a snappable game on the Xbox One. Now, it looks as though we may finally, one day, see it find a home on Windows Phone as well. One Windows Central reader put the question to the developer, with an interesting response.
Android 5.1 factory image arrives for Nexus 7 (2012) 3G

After first arriving on select Android One devices, Android 5.1 Lollipop began rolling out to the Nexus family last month. While there are still several Nexus devices that have yet to see the update, such as the Nexus 9, Android 5.1 has since reached the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 7 (2012), Nexus 10, and the Nexus Player. And now it’s coming to the Nexus 7 (2012) 3G variant as well.
The factory image has the same build number as the Wifi-only Nexus 7, LMY47D. As for what’s new here? As with any other Android 5.1 build, you can expect the update to be mostly bug fixes and performance tweaks, with a few very minor front-facing changes such a new “device protection mode” and changes to the interruption slider that makes the experience a little closer to the silent mode from KitKat that was removed in Lollipop.

To grab the factory image, you’ll want to head on over Google’s factory images page. If you aren’t sure how to flash a factory image, be sure to check out our walkthrough. While the guide was designed for Android 5.0 Lollipop, the same overall process should apply. Of course, remember that things can and sometimes do go wrong, so flash at your own risk.
LG unveils LG G4 camera: 16MP with F/1.8 aperture, 8MP front cam
A few days ago LG revealed that the camera in the LG G4 would feature F/1.8 aperture, beating out the F/1.9 lens in the Galaxy S6. Now LG has revealed a few more details about its camera, which is being developed in-house by LG Innotek.
The new 16MP camera will go into mass production this week, and is said to be capable of receiving 80% more light than the camera found on the LG G3. Considering the LG G3 had one of last year’s best camera experiences, we can’t say we are too surprised to see LG doing its best to push the imaging experience to the next level on its upcoming flagship. In addition to outing its rear camera, LG says the front cam (also bulit by LG Innotek) will feature an 8MP shooter with an “ultra-thin IR filter” that is designed to keep infrared light from entering the camera lens, which LG says gives it more natural and accurate colors.
Bottom-line, LG has big plans for the camera experience on the LG G4. While it’s obviously way too early to judge how well the LG G4’s front and rear cameras will perform, LG certainly has our attention. Excited for the LG G4 yet? If so, what are the special features and changes that you are hoping to see from LG’s latest flagship?

Seoul, Korea, Apr. 09, 2015 – LG Innotek, a leading global components and materials manufacturer, announced the development of a groundbreaking 16MP camera
module with an aperture of f/1.8, making it LG Innotek’s widest aperture camera developed for a smartphone. The advanced camera module began mass production at LG Innotek’s plant this week and will be unveiled to consumers for the first time in the LG G4 later
this month.
The advanced design of the camera module means that it receives 80 percent more light than in the highly praised camera found on the LG G3. More light
means better looking images in low light environments and less blur when shooting action and fast moving objects. Large apertures on smartphone cameras has been challenging to develop due to the complexity and size of developing modules that must fit in the
very limited space of today’s smartphones.
Furthermore, in response to the explosive growth of
selfies, LG Innotek developed an 8MP front-facing camera module, its highest resolution for a front camera to date. This high resolution module’s ultra-thin IR filter keeps infrared light from entering the camera lens, giving images taken with the front
camera more natural and accurate colors. The 0.11mm thin filter is roughly half the thickness of competing IR filters.
“At LG Innotek, we are constantly working to ensure that the cameras we develop allow users to capture and preserve the moments that are most special to
them,” said Ung-beom Lee, CEO of LG Innotek. “We are extremely excited to see our technology in LG’s next flagship smartphone because we believe that the power, precision and operability of our camera module will clearly make an impression on consumers.”
Indiegogo plan needs $500k to put holographic Selena on tour
Selena Quintanilla-Pérez could soon be going back on tour despite having been dead for more than two decades. Like Tupac and Michael Jackson before her, the Latin American icon will return to the stage — in hologram form — as early as 2018. All that needs to happen first is the funding of a $500,000 Indiegogo campaign (which launches on April 16th). Not only will “Selena The One,” as her digital version will be known, go on tour but there are reportedly plans afoot to “release new songs and videos … and collaborate with current hit artists.” Obviously, she won’t be writing new material but if Selena’s unpublished catalog is anywhere near as large as either Michael’s or Tupac’s, her fans will have years of entertainment to look forward to.

YouTube hardly needs an introduction. With over 1 billion monthly visitors, its one of the biggest video sharing sites in the world. Mainly, the location where you can go and find cute kitten videos to help pass the time when you should be working instead. Soon though, you may be able to watch those cute kittens lick their kitten paws without having to also view annoying ads. Bloomberg today reported a possible subscription plan that Google might roll out as soon as the end of the year. This is not entirely out of the realm of possibility, since Google did release YouTube Music Key late last year. So far it seems to be working, so it would bode well for Google to take that winning formula and offer users the ability to be able to pay and be able to skip ads altogether. We for one hope that this plan comes to fruition so we can watch our favorite videos without the nuisance of having to wait for adds. For more information, you can head over to Bloomberg’s official report using the link.

Google Receives Spoiler Patent
We’ve all been there: you’re perusing the internet the day after Game of Thrones comes on, but you’re going to watch it in the evening with HBO Now. Suddenly, you are attacked with news of Tormund’s death (everyone calm down, I’m joking, he’s still kicking.) and the entire episode is ruined. Worry no more, because Google has received a patent that will allow it to view what you’ve watched from your streaming services and remove results that relate to unwatched episodes of your favorite shows.
Although this seems to be a great idea, it’s important to remember that Google doesn’t always pursue its patents, so we may never see this come to fruition.

YouTube content creators seeing notices about upcoming Ad-Free subscription services
There have been a number of leaks and chatter that Google’s YouTube service was, at the very least, working on a ad-free subscription service. The first wave of this initiative came about with YouTube’s Music Key that was announced back in November of last year. The service let you drop $10 a month for ad-free […]

Month View Returns to Google Calendar for Android
Are you among the many who scratched your proverbial head at the exclusion of a true month view mode when the Google Calendar app embraced Material Design principles? Well you’re not alone, and Google has heard your cries, fair peasants! Like the benevolent ruler they are, Google has returned month view to the Google Calendar app. No longer are you stuck with that month/day split screen that was abhorrent to many.
To be clear, “month view” refers to a full screen view of a given month, with calendar items filling space for each date, much like Google Calendar on the web or, like, um, a real calendar.
But Google previously decided perhaps that was too easy, or too skeuomorphic. Either way, we were left with a Calendar app that let users drop down a month view, but not actually see any calendar items in said month without clicking on a particular day. Simply put: one couldn’t just get a quick one-swipe glance at a month. Too many steps were involved for what should be one of the simpler processes on a smartphone.
The update is available now. Google also says they are working on improvements to the iPhone (note: not iOS?) app, but why should we care about that when the picture above is of a Nexus 6?
Did you miss month view or were you fine without it?
