While HTC may not be the most lucrative Android OEM, it has been turning a profit over the last few quarters. The first quarter of 2015 is no different with HTC reporting a net profit of $11.6 million (T$360 million). While this number is not huge by any means, it should be noted that HTC was able to hold on to a profit even during the success of Apple’s two latest flagships and other Android competitors.
The total revenue for the first quarter was $1.32 billion (T$41.52 billion). We are anxious to see how HTC fares during the rest of 2015 with the release of its newest flagship, the One m9. Feelings towards the phone have been mixed, but hopefully it will result in higher profits for HTC. Success for more companies means more competition, and more competition is better for the consumer.

AT&T is pushing out Android 5.0 to their Samsung Galaxy S4
Patience is a virtue they say. While I can agree with that to some degree, technology and the “instant” gratification it can bring certainly makes our patience run thin when it comes to updates. Those of you that are still holding on to dear life with your Samsung Galaxy S4 with AT&T are in for […]

LG giving away 4,000 G4s to customers prior to official launch
If you don’t want to wait for the G4 to officially release, you might be able to snag one a little early thanks to LG’s new Consumer Experience Program. The program will give away 4,000 of the company’s 2015 handsets to customers in several different countries to test drive the phone ahead of its actual release.
The program goes live today in South Korea, but it’ll extend to Turkey, Indonesia, Singapore, United States, China, India, Brazil, Canada, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Mexico, Japan and Hong Kong. The company will be releasing details on how to enter the program on their social media pages in the next few days.
This is a unique spin on pre-release support for a device, but if the G4 is as good as LG is claiming it will be, this will beat any benchmarks or other scores that device may get ahead of its actual release.

Apple Opening Second Retail Store in Hangzhou, China on Apple Watch Launch Day [Mac Blog]
Apple is opening a second retail store in Hangzhou, China on 701 Fuchun Road in the Jianggan District, less than three months after the company opened its first Apple Store in Hangzhou at West Lake in the Shangcheng District. The new Hangzhou location at the MixC shopping mall is set to open on April 24 at 9:00 AM local time, the same day that the Apple Watch goes on sale in China. Apple will now operate 19 retail stores in China after expanding around the Chinese New Year.

Apple commemorated the opening of its first Hangzhou store in West Lake with a calligraphy video in January, with the store officially opening its doors on January 24 at 9 AM local time. Apple is committed to expanding its presence in China, an emerging and increasingly important market for the company, with retail chief Angela Ahrendts commenting on Apple’s expansion into China earlier this year amid five new store openings in the world’s most populous country.
Instagram update version 6.19.0 brings Color and Fade customization tools

Instagram is rolling out a new update to its Android application that will bring a few more customization tools to users. The update to version 6.19.0, which is now available in the Google Play Store, brings two new sliders: Color and Fade.
With the Fade slider, you can soften the colors in the image which is similar to reducing the saturation. The Color slider, which is arguably the more handy improvement, allows you to tint the highlights or shadows in your photo. Available colors include yellow, orange, red, pink, purple, blue, cyan and green. Take a look at the screenshots below for some more clarification.

Although there is no shortage of filters and customization features available on Instagram, perhaps these new additions will help to drive users away from other competitor apps like VSCO Cam and Snapseed. The new update is now live in Google Play, and the Instagram for iOS version 6.10.0 update will be available in the App Store. Lollipop is making its way to the Sony Xperia Z3 Dual, Z1, Z1 Compact and Z Ultra next week

In what seems like a continuous rollout as of late, Sony just announced earlier today that a number of devices should be getting the update to Android 5.0 Lollipop in the near future. Alongside the Lollipop update for the Xperia Z2 and Z2 Tablet, Sony has also announced that the Xperia Z3 Dual, Z1, Z1 Compact and Z Ultra will all be updated sometime next week. Although this timeframe may seem a bit vague, we do know that the T2 Ultra and C3 will both receive their updates shortly thereafter.
In addition to all of the devices listed above, Sony says that the Z series will also receive the update sometime soon, though the company didn’t announce a timeframe. As a refresher the Z series includes the Xperia Z, ZL, ZR and Tablet Z.

Wondering what exactly the Lollipop update will bring to your compatible Sony device? The company has put together a nice video showing off some of the main improvements. Major features include the addition of Priority Mode notifications, actionable lock screen notifications, Smart Lock, and a great implementation of Google’s Material Design.
It’s nice to see Sony taking initiative and updating as many of its devices as it can. Although many Sony devices still have yet to receive the update, it’s great to know that older devices are still getting attention.

LG to let 4,000 lucky fans in 15 countries ‘test drive’ a G4 before launch
Details are still a little scarce, but LG’s going to give 4,000 folks in more than a dozen countries the opportunity to “test drive” its new G4 Android smartphone in the weeks before it launches.
The phone will officially be unveiled April 28 in New York City — we’ll be there, of course. As per its usual MO, LG’s already announced that the G4 will sport an f/1.8 camera. The rear buttons remain in the same place, as do the laser autofocus and flash. LG also has tipped its hand for a new 5.5-inch QHD display as well as a new user experience.
LG says more details are forthcoming on its various social media channels, so stay tuned.
