Video: LG teases software features coming to the G4

Following the announcement of the display panel that will equip the G4, LG is now revealing another crucial part of the G4 experience: the software.

In a Korean language video, LG is teasing the new UX4, which resembles the previous iteration of LG’s Android skin, but adds a couple of new features.

Aesthetically, LG UX 4.0 seems to be flatter, more simple, and more abstract than UX 3.0 (running on G3, G Flex 2, and others), with the bright color scheme borrowing from Google’s Material design guidelines.

Smart Bulletin, launched on the G3, is making a return, consolidating LG’s various proprietary features, like Smart Settings, LG Health, a Calendar app, Smart Tips and more. Like before, Smart Bulletin will be available with a swipe from the homescreen, similar to Google Now on the default Google launcher.

Instead of having to long-press the volume down button on the back to launch the camera, you will be able to double tap it. That’s a similar to the way the camera can be launched on the Galaxy S6, but it remains to be seen whether LG has been able to reduce the time needed to launch the camera, as the long-press feature was quite slow on the G3.

Enjoy a terrifying 10,000 foot GoPro camera freefall

Got your dramamine and/or hallucinogenics? Either will work for the latest video starring a tough, but not-very-well-attached GoPro camera. Its owner lost it during a skydiving formation gone wrong, and it continued the rest of the 10,000 feet down without him, spinning crazily the whole way. But the camera and video survived and were picked up by a resident of Kristianstad, Sweden, who figured it had been sitting in a meadow “for several years.” He posted it on YouTube (below) to find the rightful owner, and the trick worked — it was claimed by a parachutist from a nearby flying club. Unfortunately, it also gave the internet a horrific new falling dream.

How you can’t get Snapchat on Windows Phone: The whole sorry saga

One of the most high profile gaps in the Windows Phone Store remains Snapchat. And despite community outcry, that isn’t likely to change any time soon.

If you’re new to the platform in particular, you might be wondering why you can’t have it. After all, iPhone and Android owners have it, right?

With there being no hope for the third-party offerings we did have, here’s a run down of the tale of Snapchat and Windows Phone.

Disney is pouring $250 million into a fantasy sports site

Green Bay's QB gets ready to toss as Seattle closes in

Disney apparently doesn’t think it’s enough to offer sports coverage through ESPN… it wants to fuel your fantasy leagues, too. Wall Street Journal sources report that the House that Walt Built is investing $250 million into DraftKings, a fantasy sports website that lets you play for real cash. The deal is believed to be all about complementing ESPN’s various platforms with ads and services are that both relevant and, of course, profitable. DraftKings is expected to spend $500 million on ESPN ads in the “coming years” — that’s a lot of money to reap from friendly rivalries and office pools. The pact wouldn’t completely lock out competitors like the Comcast-backed FanDuel, but they’d undoubtedly be left reeling by losing exposure on one of the largest sports networks.

Razer’s Forge TV set-top box can now be pre-ordered from Amazon For $149

Razer_Forge_TV_Android_TV_With_Controller_01

Ever since Google launched its Nexus Player set-top box, we’ve been waiting for the flood of Android TV devices to hit the market, so far though it’s been slim pickings. One Android TV set-top box that is on the horizon is Razer’s Forge TV bundle that was originally due to arrive back in February, but is now up for pre-order on Amazon.com.

Razer_Forge_TV_Android_TV_Back-630x354In terms of hardware, it can be said that Razer’s Forge TV is what Google’s Nexus Player should have been as you can see from the list of high-end specifications below:

  • Android TV
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 Quad-core @ 2.5GHz
  • Adreno 420 GPU
  • 2GB RAM
  • 16GB internal storage
  • USB 3.0 port
  • Bluetooth 4.1/WiFi 802.11 ac
  • Ethernet port

Besides running Android TV and being able to download and install apps from Google’s Play Store, the Forge TV can also stream PC games although that functionality is only due in the 2nd quarter of 2015. The Razer Forge TV bundle includes the set-top box as well as a game-pad and is now available to pre-order on Amazon.com for $149.99 with a release date of May 1st.

The dream of an arrow-shaped road car still lives

DeltaWing's street car patent

Don’t give up hope for the arrow-like car of your childhood fantasies just because Nissan has shelved its BladeGlider EV — you may get your wish after all. DeltaWing (which is backed by motorsports giant Don Panoz) has filed for two patents on two “street car” designs that would bring that sci-fi wedge shape to a road near you. The first (above) is effectively a civilian version of DeltaWing’s race car that would undoubtedly be eye-catching, if not exactly practical for backing out of a parking space. Another (below) is much more viable, with relatively subtler looks and such radical concepts as rear windows.

There’s no guarantee that you can drive something that looks like these. However, DeltaWing has already talked about working on two- and four-seaters that would use these uncommon aerodynamics to get extreme efficiency. It won’t be shocking if you can take the keys to one of these oddball designs (or something like them) in the future.

A huge Apple Watch window display is coming to your local Apple Store

Apple storefronts will soon be filled with an array of LED circles for the Apple Watch launch.

The new displays for the Apple Watch launch will be going up on Friday, April 10 — the same day that in-store try-on appointments and Apple Watch pre-orders begin. The hexagonal grid of circles is meant to evoke the circular icons and grid layout of the Apple Watch app launcher.

As described by 9to5Mac:

Each circle is packed with Mac mini-powered LED lights that will show off different colors, patterns, and effects throughout the day. The new front of store visuals will continue to stay live after the Apple Watch launches on April 24th as Apple can simply remove the “Coming Soon” label.

Apple has had a history of installing both flashy and minimalist displays for new device launches, though it’s clear from this reported display that Apple’s pulling out all the stops for the Apple Watch launch.

Not sure if you want an Apple Watch? Or which one you want? Check out our Apple Watch buyers guide!
