Music and Video preview apps for Windows 10 appear with latest technical preview
Alongside the excitement of the latest build of Windows 10 and Project Spartan, there are a couple of other surprises waiting for us in the Store (beta).
Say hello to the first previews of the new Music and Video apps for Windows 10.
Surface 3 priced at $639 and $769 in Canada, no LTE models listed yet
Canadians can now pre-order the just announced Surface 3 tablet on their local Microsoft Store site. Prices begin at $639 for the 10.8-inch device, but at the moment only the two Wi-Fi-only models can be pre-ordered.
Chromecast support comes to Pac-12, TED, MTV, and Qello
Google announced today that Chromecast support has come to four new apps, including TED, MTV, Pac-12, and Qello.
Using ePub files on Android
There’s a big difference between open and functional, and it’s not always easy to get both when it comes to ePub apps.
You may not be aware of this, but if you’re a fan of ebooks there’s a good chance you have a collection of ePub files sitting around. There may be some unfortunate DRM in between you and those files, but they almost certainly exist. Generally speaking, the ePub format is the standard for digital books that aren’t sold by or made for Amazon. It’s a format that has been around for a long time, due largely to its flexibility, and as a result there are no shortage of apps out there to handle ePub files.
All you really need to know is how to get to those formats, and know the best way to enjoy those books when you’re not bound to apps like Google Play Books or Kindle.
Hands on with Microsoft’s next gen ‘Project Spartan’ web browser
A new web browser called Project Spartan has been introduced in Windows 10 Technical Preview build 10049. It’s still not finished, but Windows Insider members can start playing with it to leave some feedback.
Microsoft reminds us that this preview is not a polished, ready-for-everyone release. More features and improvements will be added before it’s widely available. In the meantime, let’s take a look at what’s available now! Watch our hands-on video.
Cross-platform BES12 Cloud for Enterprises and SMBs now available
Officially announced during Mobile World Congress 2015 and previously available in a closed beta, BlackBerry has now opened the doors to BES12 Cloud for all enterprises as well as small and medium sized organizations who wish to sign up for the services.
LG G3 Vigor brings VoLTE to Rogers in Canada
The LG G3 Vigor is coming to Canada through Rogers, and will be one of the first devices on the carrier with support for Voice over LTE (VoLTE).
The LG G3 Vigor will be available from Rogers for no money down on certain two-year Share Everything contracts.
Custom snooze times arrive in new Inbox by Gmail update
Google has added custom snooze times to the Inbox by Gmail app, allowing you to select a more exact time than “morning”.
Inbox by Gmail will now allow you to set custom snooze times instead of the basic morning and afternoon style options previously available. Understanding that everyone has different needs when it comes to being reminded of a snoozed email, Google has added the ability to define a time at which you want to be reminded.
Apple starts taking Apple Watch app submissions from all developers
Apple announced today that it will start accepting submissions for Apple Watch app updates from all developers.
This follows the release of the first Apple Watch-enabled apps onto the App Store last week. However, where those updates were only for select partner apps, today’s announcement opens the door for all developers to submit their Apple Watch updates.
The announcement was made via Apple’s developer portal for the Apple Watch, which also details several guidelines to creating apps for the wearable using the WatchKit SDK.
As a reminder, pre-orders for the Apple Watch begin on April 10, with a release date set for April 24. With Apple accepting app submissions with a little under a month to go, it looks like the Apple Watch will have a pretty good app ecosystem right out of the gate.
