Pac-Man chomps its way onto Google Maps for some retro-style fun

Google is usually good for some April Fools jokes, and this time they have put Pac-Man on the streets of Google Maps.

Pac-Man can be played right now on Google Maps, utilizing the streets of the map as the course. Users can play on streets of their own town on the web, or in select areas on mobile devices. Google has listed a bunch of clues of where to find Pac-Man on mobile devices, but if you want to just get down and play try searching for “Arc de Triomphe”.

We are unsure how long Pac-Man is going to hang around Google Maps (it’s worth noting that is already April 1st in some parts of the world), so we suggest giving it a try soon, lest it disappear before you get the chance.

The Hit List 2.2 for iPhone adds a share extension, fixes several bugs

Task manager The Hit List has hit version 2.2, adding a share extension that lets you create new tasks and reminders from inside other apps.

Once you set up the share extension, you can use text and links to create a new task for The Hit List wherever extensions are supported. Along with the addition of the extension, The Hit List 2.2 fixes a number of bugs. Check out the list below for all of the fixes:

  • Changes to an existing task’s title or notes could be accidentally discarded mid-editing
  • Tasks due soon, and without a start date are properly formatted in task lists
  • Some types of change to a task’s repeat rule weren’t syncing to other devices
  • Better organized sections for smart lists (and tags) that are sorted by priority

The Hit List 2 landed in December 2014 with task cards, short cuts, and the ability to sync to the Mac app.

The Hit List 2.2 requires iOS 8.2 and is available in the App Store now.

The Wild West-themed game Gunpowder explodes on the iPad for $4.99

Indie developer Rogue Rocket Games has launched its newest title, the Wild West-themed action-puzzle game Gunpowder, exclusively on the iPad today for $4.99.

Gunpowder has some similarities to the Angry Bird franchise, as players try to explode barrels of, well, gunpowder, with the objective to set fire to as much stuff as possible. Players control “Incendio”, a fox with a Robin Hood-like zeal to help steal money away from the evil robber baron wolf Boss Grimshaw. Here’s a quick summary of Gunpowder.

The first lesson in Pyrotechnics 101 starts with drawing lines of gunpowder with your finger. Players must then strategically place barrels to solve puzzles and discover surprise chain reactions through the use of numerous environmental objects such as flaming wagons, Gatling guns, chandeliers, cannons, mine carts and more! With the explosive tools at your disposal, you must recover the stolen gold and redistribute the wealth to bring order to the Wild West.

Gunpowder is a one-of-a-kind physics-based puzzle game featuring colorful artwork, a charming backstory and clever game design that is sure to appeal to gamers of all ages. With 125 unique levels, timed trials, numerous Easter eggs, unlockable achievements and the ability to compete against friends via Apple’s Game Center, Gunpowder can be played many times over, as players seek to find the fastest and best way to solve each puzzle.

Dropbox to give web browser users better document preview features

Dropbox is currently rolling out a new update for its web browser users that promises a better preview experience for stored documents.

Dropbox says that the improvements will allow documents to load faster and look better while previewed on a web browser such as Safari on the Mac. Here’s what users can expect after the changes go live:

The biggest change you may notice is that we’ve redesigned the document toolbar at the bottom of the preview, so it adapts to the type of file you’re previewing — across documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and PDFs, on any major web browser.

So whether you’re presenting a board deck or viewing a wedding shower invite, you’ll be presented with the right set of options, like zooming in, going to full-screen mode, flipping between pages, or printing straight from the preview. The new toolbar appears when you hover over the bottom of the screen, so it’s there when you need it but out of your way when you don’t.

Dropbox says all of its web browser users should be able to access the new document preview features over the next few days.

Apple Pay sees high acceptance from customers, but merchants still need to get on board

According to a new study, Apple Pay has seen high adoption among users in its first few months, though many users report disappointment with the in-store experience.

Apple Pay, has seen a wide acceptance rate among customers, with 66% of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus owners adding at least one card to the payment service, according to a new survey. However, many customers are reporting disappointment when it comes to using Apple Pay in stores, in part due to inconsistent implementations of Apple Pay by merchants.

From Phoenix Marketing International:

“The demand is there: 59% of Apple Pay users have gone into a store and asked to make a purchase with Apple Pay. But so is the disappointment: 47% visited a store that was listed as an Apple Pay merchant only to find out that the specific store they visited did not accept (or were not ready to accept) Apple Pay.”

When they do find a store that supports Apple Pay, many customers run into problems during checkout. Several respondents to the survey reported that payment terminals often worked slowly, and cashiers were ill-equipped to aid customers that needed help using the system.

Apple Pay first debuted in October 2014 for iPhone 6 and 6 Plus in the U.S. The payment service now has the support of 2,500 participating banks, along with 700,000 businesses.
