The Volvo XC90 Experience is using Google Cardboard to great effect

by John_A

volvo xc90 experienceWhen Google debuted Google Cardboard at Google I/O earlier this year, we got our first look at a very inexpensive way to experience virtual reality just using your smartphone. Now, we’re seeing the first commercial use of the concept with the Volvo XC90 Experience which Volvo is using to advertise its refreshed XC90. In conjunction with its Volvo Reality app, the Volvo XC90 Experience allows potential customers the ability to take a virtual ‘test drive’ in the new XC90, all from the comfort of your home.

volvo xc90 experienceIt’s a pretty neat use of Google Cardboard, if novel, and for the cost of a brochure essentially gives prospective customers a cool way to see a car in a way no car before it has really been seen before. In fact, you don’t even really need the Google Cardboard part of the equation as Volvo says the app works just as well without it. So if you’re wanting to see what the first virtual reality test drive looks like, be sure to hit the Play Store link below (though it looks like it might only be available to North American users only).
