Jaybird’s readiness-sensing fitness tracker arrives October 26th
Want a fitness tracker that can tell you when it’s time to get moving, rather than simply record your movements? You won’t have to wait long. Jaybird has confirmed that its Reign wristband will reach the US on October 26th at the $199 price promised back in January. The key to the Reign is its “Go-Score,” which estimates your readiness for activity based on your heart rate variability — the higher the score, the better-suited you are to going for a run or bike ride. It’s also one of the few trackers that can handle swimming alongside exercise and sleep, so this may be your wearable of choice if you regularly hit the pool. So long as you have an Android or iOS device to pair with, the Reign may be worth checking out if you feel that other activity devices don’t cover enough ground.

iPhone 6 Pre-Orders in China Top 20 Million Through Carriers and E-Commerce Site JD [iOS Blog]
Chinese mobile carriers and Chinese e-commerce site Jingdong Mall (JD.com) have processed a combined total of about 20 million pre-orders for the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus since pre-orders began on October 10, reports Tencent (Google Translate, via Digitimes).
The report notes that China’s three biggest carriers including China Mobile, China Unicom, and China Telecom have processed over 10 million of those pre-orders, while JD.com states that it has received 9.5 million pre-orders for both devices. JD.com specifies that 4.7 million pre-orders are for the iPhone 6, while 4.8 million pre-orders are for the iPhone 6 Plus. The figures also do not include pre-orders accepted by Apple or its over 6,000 resellers in the country.
Last Friday, it was reported that the three major Chinese carriers had taken one million iPhone 6 and 6 Plus pre-orders in the first six hours. Apple announced on September 22 that opening weekend sales for both devices topped ten million units, breaking the previous record of nine million units set by the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c in 2013. The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus will officially be available in China this Friday, October 17.

Sayonara, CEATEC 2014: Another curious tech show
Japan’s annual CEATEC is often the black sheep of the global tech show circuit. While CES in Vegas throws up new TVs, laptops, tablets and the occasional phone to pore over, and IFA in Germany does the same in the middle of the year, CEATEC doesn’t usually offer up many big ole’ fashioned product launches. Whether it’s due to the nation’s gradually recovering economy, or strategic choices of Japanese companies (Sony’s not here, to start), the trade show tries to balance major Japanese tech brands alongside carmakers like Honda and Toyota, as well as component manufacturers, universities and tiny startups trying to gain a foothold. It’s a generally messier show, but then that’s part of the charm: there’s always some interesting things to see — as you’ll discover for yourself below.(And you can find the rest of our reports right here.)

How much will the Nexus 6 cost? Paul O’Brien thinks £450 is a good number
We’re quickly bearing down on the suspected release date of at least the Nexus 9, but some of us are infinitely more fixated on the release of Google‘s new smartphone, the Nexus 6. Whether that happens on October 15th or towards the end of the month, one of the biggest questions that is going around, that isn’t to do with its size, is how much will the Nexus 6 cost. At 5.9-inches and a Quad HD display, a similar price to the Nexus 5 would almost be too good to be true, but Paul O’Brien is getting his opinion out there early.
Nexus 6 (or whatever it ends up being called) should come in under £450, but don’t expect ultra cheap.
— Paul O’Brien (@PaulOBrien) October 9, 2014
O’Brien, who is best known as founder of MoDaCo, postulates that the new Nexus will cost a very pretty £450, or less, but probably close to that. For reference, the soon-to-be outgoing Nexus 5 sells for £299, which is significantly less than the alleged price of the Nexus 6 and much more than most Nexus owners have ever paid. If there is any solace to be taken from this news, it’s that the Moto X 2014 costs around £420, which does mean you’re getting a Quad HD screen for a steal. Still, this is all just conjecture so we’ll have to wait for Google’s official word to see if any of this is true.
How much do you think the Nexus 6 is going to cost? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Sony’s Crackle takes aim at Netflix with a ‘Joe Dirt’ sequel
Netflix may soon be adding four new Adam Sandler flicks to its coffers, but that doesn’t mean it’s got a monopoly on the ol’ Waterboy’s creative endeavors. Variety reports that Sandler’s producing a sequel for the one and only Joe Dirt exclusively for Sony-owned streaming service (and Netflix competitor) Crackle. Seriously. SNL alum David Spade will once again don the mullet and those acid wash jeans to, well, no one knows quite yet – the first movie saw the eponymous Dirt abandoned by his parents at the Grand Canyon only to learn the true meaning of family 90 minutes later. It’s probably safe to assume this new production’s budget won’t reach the $17 million bar the original did, but hey — it’s still a sign that Crackle won’t let Netflix rule the original content roost without a fight. Kudos to them for trying to stick it to a streaming media titan, but really? That’s the franchise they thought needed a second chance? Really?

You can now tweet money to friends, if you live in France
Starting tomorrow, any French resident with a bank account and Twitter handle will be able to transfer money simply by tweeting it. The new service, dubbed S-money, was launched last month by French mega-bank BPCE and Twitter. It differs from Twitter’s Buy Now, which lets users to pay for goods at companies like Home Depot and Burberry using an embedded “Pay” button. Instead, S-money is aimed at person-to-person transactions, letting you send money to friends without needing their banking details. Details are scarce on exactly how it works, but a BPCE spokesman said it’s “perfectly adapted to the Twitter experience.” By the way, my own Twitter handle is @stevetdent. #kerching
