Pre-Paid Verizon Moto G packaging appears, just a $100??

The Motorola Moto G is an extremely attractive device. The price is set perfectly for consumers who want something that is nice, fast and affordable. Judging from what we have heard and seen from around the G+ universe, it is being received very well. It really is a big win for Motorola. With the device already being sold for a $179 base price, it is hard not to get one ‘just because,’  but what if it was less?

Verizon Moto G pre-paidA recent image has surfaced on G+ from Josue Joseph that shows a no contract prepaid packaged Moto G blister package stamped with Verizon. While we don’t have ‘official’ confirmation or announcement from Verizon, it is pretty clear that it is coming.  Josue notes that the price “looks like” just $100 off-contract. Making it even more attractive. If Verizon does pull down the Moto G off-contract for $100, we can see it flying off the shelves in a hurry. Heck, even I would be forced to get one ‘just because’ at that price.

Fitbit app lets you track activity with just your iPhone 5s, no Fitbit device required

Fitbit app lets you track activity with just your iPhone 5s, no Fitbit device required

Fitbit updated its iOS app today, bringing, perhaps most significantly, the ability to track “basic” activity on an iPhone 5s, without the company’s proprietary wearable. Using Apple’s motion-sensing M7 chip, the app’ll track your steps, distance and the number of calories you’ve burned. You can also utilize features like food and weight tracking, fitness goals and add friends on the app by downloading it in the source link below and tapping on the “No Fitbit Yet? iPhone 5s tracks the basics” text. So you can start those New Year’s resolutions now — and, the company no doubt hopes, get in on the FitBit experience before picking up the wearable.

Chromebooks overtake Android tablets and Macs in US business sales

Estimated US retail computer sales

Chrome OS is at last gaining some momentum — among US businesses and schools, anyway. The NPD Group reports that Chromebooks represented 9.6 percent of all computing devices sold through American commercial channels in 2013, or enough to surpass the market share of Android tablets, Windows tablets and MacBooks. Google’s rise put the squeeze on traditional computers, which dropped from 77.8 percent of the commercial space to 63.7 percent this year. NPD researchers don’t believe that the PC is going away, but they note that the most successful companies diversified their gadget lineups. Samsung’s combo of Android and Chromebooks helped it jump to 10 percent share of commercial sales in 2013, while PC-focused builders like HP took a bruising; it’s clear that one-trick ponies won’t thrive in the workplace for much longer.

Nokia wins German injunction banning HTC Android devices

HTC One Mini

Nokia is clearly on a roll in the courtroom as of late — following lawsuit wins in the Netherlands, the US and the UK, the company has landed a German injunction banning all of HTC’s Android-based devices. The ruling lets Nokia provisionally block the sale of the One and other Google-powered hardware that allegedly infringes on a patent for peer-to-peer sharing over Bluetooth and NFC. HTC is expected to appeal the decision; Google is trying to invalidate the patent, but its move won’t come in time to avoid or delay the ban. There won’t be much else the two firms can do in the meantime. As with a similar defeat in March, HTC will have to either change features or strip them out to keep doing business.

Netflix intros cheaper standard definition streaming plan for new subscribers

If you consider yourself both extremely frugal and averse to the luxuries of seeing Hollywood eye candy actors in Super HD, Netflix’s new SD tier could be right up your alley. The streaming service has begun offering a low-end plan for new subscribers only that’ll allow standard definition streaming to one device — that’s right, no simultaneous viewing — for $6.99 per month. We can confirm the plan is indeed now live as it appeared when we attempted to sign up for new service though, as TechCrunch reports, that may not be the case for everyone.

Take note, this recent plan addition is only $1 cheaper than the basic HD tier that lets users stream to two devices at once, making the SD plan’s cost benefit a bit dubious. So, if you’re really counting your pennies and haven’t bothered to upgrade to an HD-capable TV or tablet or phone (which makes us wonder if you even have broadband), then by all means, have at this promo. You’re also probably not into account sharing anyway. And really, that’s what that extra $1/mo is for, right? Right.
