Perks of being John Legere: T-Mobile CEO gets a HTC One M8 with 24 carat gold Finish
I’m sure most people envy John Legere; the CEO of T-Mobile is basically the coolest company figurehead you could ever ask for, and to top it off, T-Mobile continues to do some amazing things with their offered services which are making the other American networks feel a bit nervous. We’ve seen Legere repeatedly wear attire with Batman logos which most executives wouldn’t touch with a ten-foot pole while in public, but exactly how cool is Mr. Legere? Well, HTC America thinks he’s cool enough to be gifted their new flagship smartphone, the HTC One M8. But not just any ordinary, silver One M8 either; specifically a HTC One M8 with 24 carat gold finish, as pictured above.
I assume some of us will now want to re-evaluate our lives and plan the best way to become John Legere. This isn’t the first time we’ve heard of a gold HTC One M8 however; at the start of April, we got word that HTC would be bringing a gold-plated version of the One M8 to the Middle East. Suffice to say, the phone gifted to Legere is likely one of those gold plated devices, though the retail prices of these devices hasn’t actually been made known yet. Doesn’t stop me being jealous though…

Coachella is streaming live on YouTube, and you might even chat with the bands
It’s that time of year once again: Google and T-Mobile are streaming the Coachella festival live on YouTube. Tune in between April 11th and April 13th and you’ll see big-name musicians play without making a pilgrimage to Indio. Much of the experience will be familiar if you’ve watched before. However, there is a social twist to this year’s proceedings — if you’re in a Hangouts video chat at the right moment, you’ll have a chance to speak with artists like Chvrches and Zedd while they’re backstage. Yes, you may have a better time than fans who paid a premium to be there in person. We wouldn’t count on getting that VIP treatment, but it’s undoubtedly an added incentive to start streaming.

Oppo’s bringing another LTE phone to the US (and it might just be affordable)
Oppo has a reputation for clever smartphones, but there’s a good reason why you rarely see its devices in the US: it hasn’t had local LTE data until the (currently unreleased) Find 7, and that’s not exactly cheap. Imagine our surprise when we found a version of the R1 with US-capable LTE, fresh from FCC approval. The high-style, low-cost phone can now handle 4G data on T-Mobile and, to a limited extent, AT&T. It should also run quickly on Canadian providers.
Don’t expect an official carrier deal when this variant arrives, though.
Given the lack of network branding, it’s more likely to be sold in unlocked form to fans of the R1′s looks and extra-bright f/2.0 aperture camera. Oppo hasn’t said anything about this model, so it’s not even clear that you’ll get to buy one any time soon. Still, it’s a further sign that the company is taking its North American audience seriously — and it may save you some cash if you don’t need everything the Find 7 has to offer.

T-Mobile 4G LTE Tablets Drop to Wi-Fi Prices with 1GB of Free Monthly Data
It is day 2 of 3 for T-Mobile’s trifecta of un-carrier announcements. Yesterday they announced the Simple Starter plan that gives you unlimited talk, text and 500GB of data for $40 a month.
Today they announce a new way of doing business in the tablet arena. Taking the silly cost increase of a 4G LTE tablet model and giving it the same price tag as the Wi-Fi only variant. That essentially knocks $112 of the Galaxy Tab 3 and $130 off the 16GB iPAD Air.
Operation Tablet Freedom begins on April 12th and kicks off with something a bit more than a price reduction on 4G LTE enabled tablets. If you bring a tablet, buy a tablet or trade a tablet for a tablet, you can pick up 1GB of 4G LTE per month for free for the rest of the year. Pair that with the 200MBs of free data they are offering regardless, and you get your hands on 1.2GB of data for nothing.
There are a few rules and details of course, like it has to be added to your voice account and is free after a $10 monthly credit. Still, free data is free data. Makes me consider a tablet a little more seriously now.
Any takers out there?

T-Mobile’s Operation Tablet Freedom: 4G LTE tablets for same price as Wi-Fi models (plus free data!)

T-Mobile on Thursday outlined its second Un-carrier move in as many days. Starting on April 12 and running through the rest of the year, customers can add a 4G LTE version of a tablet for the same price as the Wi-Fi-only version. Yeah, for real. Saving customers hundreds of dollars on the front end, it gets even better.
As they, and we, see it, what’s the point of a tablet if you’re stuck to using it in Wi-Fi locations? You’re putting hundreds of dollars into a device, shouldn’t you be able to take it everywhere? Why not enjoy a little bit of free data while you’re at it?
Operation Tablet Freedom:
- Up to 1GB FREE 4G LTE data per month through 2014
- PLUS up to 200 MB FREE monthly 4G LTE data for as long as you own your tablet
- Existing T-Mobile voice plan customers: Get our 1GB plan FREE after a $10 credit
As if that’s enough, T-Mobile is shaving $10 off its most popular internet data plans as well. Indeed, you get up to 1GB of 4G LTE data every month through the end of the year. Toss in the 200MB data that comes with every tablet and that’s a lot of free data.
And, yes, everything else stays in play, including JUMP! and credits for early termination fees.
Note that is this a limited time offer and customers can only add up to 3 tablets per account. Qualifying postpaid voice and mobile Internet service required for free 1GB of data.

T-Mobile Announces the ‘Simple Starter’ Plan for April 12th Availability, Just $40 a Month
If you thought T-Mobile would slow their roll after after offering up termination fee payoffs, no contract devices and international roaming at no extra charge, you would be wrong. The only way T-mobile will be able to pick up the pace is to keep bringing new things to consumers. Today they have taken the wraps off another new plan simply called the ‘Simple Starter’.
The Simple Starter plan offers up unlimited talk and text coupled with 500MB of 4G LTE data for $40 a month. It is pretty cut and dry.
T-Mobile CEO John Legere says this is just one of three announcements to come over the next few days.
So, starting with this morning’s news, we have three days of Un-carrier announcements for consumers – again the result of listening directly to their wants and needs. That is what the Un-carrier does!
We are certainly looking forward to what is next. The new Simple Starter plan becomes available April 12th for those that are interested.

T-Mobile rolls out $40 Simple Starter plan for people wary of overages

Oh, you thought T-Mobile might take a breather from continually overhauling its wireless plans? Not so, dear readers. The magenta-hued carrier just announced a new $40 Simple Starter plan that grants you unlimited talk, text and 500MB of high-speed data… and it turns out that’s just the beginning. T-Mobile CEO John Legere promised (in a feisty, pointed open letter to consumers) that the carrier has more to reveal over the next three days.
But let’s not get ahead of ourselves here, as there are a few tidbits to keep in mind before jumping on this new deal. You won’t get throttled when you bump up against that 500MB bandwidth cap, for one — you’ll instead be prompted to buy a day pass for more data access… or to sign up for one of the carrier’s rejiggered Simple Choice plans instead. Perhaps that’s not the more friction-free approach to getting your web surfing on, but it at least removes the possibility of getting smacked with overage fees. Would-be Simple Starter customers can still get T-Mobile to pay those termination fees if they’re coming from another carrier, so those of you running on a budget may want to give this plan some thought.

T-Mobile intros $40 Simple Starter Plan

T-Mobile on Wednesday introduced its latest service option, the $40 Simple Starter plan. Touted as part of something larger unfolding this week (Day 1 of 3), the plan provides unlimited talk, text, and 500MB data with tethering for only $40 per month.
“Un-carrier is a movement, not a marketing strategy. We are freeing consumers from the predatory practices of traditional US wireless companies and that includes these plans that start with a low price and a low data limit, but then hit you with insane fees if you send one too many emails. It’s wrong!.. I know we have it right and when we all are done reporting results from the first quarter – I think you’ll share my conviction.” – John Legere, president and CEO of T-Mobile.
The new Simple Starter Plan launches April 12 and is designed for “value conscious” customers. As of today there are no other wireless carriers offering single line $40 rate plans with 4G LTE data included.
T-Mobile CEO John Leger penned a blog post today, thumping the proverbial chest and promising more great things ahead.
Not only aren’t we done, we will never be done. We’ve hardly gotten started. We will keep listening to our customers because they are innovating and showing their creativity in the way they are using wireless.
What else would you like to see happen in the wireless space? What do you think T-Mobile has up its sleeve for Thursday and Friday?
