At least ten U.S. wireless providers in line to carry the Moto X

moto_x-tiles

Now that the new Moto X is official and no longer rumor it’s time to look at which carriers are in line to offer the device. We swung by the Motorola website this morning to see who might be listed as having the phone on its radar. We expected to find most, if not all, of the top five providers but were pleased to see even more.

As of today there are at least carriers listed under the registration page. Suffice it to say, you should be able to get the Moto X with your provider of choice. It’s just a matter of how long it takes for some of them.

  1. AT&T
  2. Boost Mobile
  3. Cricket Wireless
  4. MetroPC
  5. Net10/Tracfone
  6. Sprint
  7. T-Mobile
  8. U.S. Cellular
  9. Verizon
  10. Virgin Mobile

If you’re looking to add your name to the list, be sure to swing by Motorola’s website to learn more about the Moto X availability.

Speakasy? Personal? T-Mobile plays it coy for Un-carrier 7.0 event

speakeasy_uncarrier7

T-Mobile has scheduled its next Un-carrier event for Wednesday, September 7 where it plans to announce, well, something. It’s not clear what we might get out of T-Mobile and its promise of “This time it’s personal.” Factor in a password of “Speakeasy” and we might assume some sort of custom-picked plan, options, or rate choices. Of course, that’s pretty vague for us to even type, let alone imagine.

John Legere and the T-Mobile team invite you to join us in San Francisco on Wednesday, September 10 at the T-Mobile store at…

We’re anxious to see what merits a standalone event just so quickly after rolling out some new initiatives over the last few weeks. Just recently we saw them add new streaming music service providers to the list of Music Freedom and more data for its Simple Starter option. What could be so big that it would call for more than another press release? Thoughts? Sound off below if you’ve got an idea.

Sony Xperia Z3 headed to T-Mobile this Fall

I am pretty sure my heart just skipped a beat. Maybe it was a mild heart attack from all the coffee I have put down today trying to keep up with all this news. Either way, it would appear that T-Mobile and Sony might have done something right together for once.

Sony Xperia Z3

Earlier this morning Sony made a flury of announcements about new devices. They unveiled the Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact, Xperia Z3 Tablet compact and Xperia E3. That is a lot to take in. Honestly, I glanced at them and shuffled them back for later in the day. Mainly because it is very rare, or extremely late in the game, before any of the flagships make it stateside. With that all being said, there is now word from T-Mobile that they will be offering the new Sony Xperia Z3 this fall for consumers.

Now, T-Mobile didn’t offer a specific date or price, but I’ll gladly take one this fall over some time next year after it is irrelevant to carry. This means the earlier news of the PS4 Remote Play will mean a little more here in the states than it did just a bit ago.

Spec wise, on a generic level, you are looking at:

  • 5.2-inch 1080 x 1920 display with a 424ppi
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor at 2.5GHz
  • 3GB of RAM
  • 16 and 32 GB internal storage options
  • Micro SD card slot
  • IP58 water-resistant rated
  • 20.7 MP rear camera
  • 2.2MP front shooter
  • Android 4.4.4
  • 3,100 mAh battery with a 16 hour talk time rating

I am not counting Sprint out of the equation just yet. Previous reports did peg a flagship Sony device headed that direction in time for the holidays as well. The T-Mobile page that makes this small, but important, announcement doesn’t make mention that it is an exclusive. We might see the Xperia Z3 hit more than T-Mobile before the year ends.

Who’s getting what? New Samsung devices per US carrier Breakdown

As expected, Samsung dropped a number of new products for consumers to consider as their next device. They officially announced the Galaxy Note 4, which we all knew was coming, we just didn’t know the specific spec details. They also brought out the new Note Edge, which we had rumors of a curved side display, but assumptions lead to it being something the Note 4 would have. Samsung also announced the Gear VR, which is a virtual reality head unit to slap your Galaxy Note 4 in for some fun. Yes, you must have a Note 4 to use the Gear VR. Samsung is pretty good about making things device and product specific.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Colors

With 3 new devices and an October time frame, which carriers in the U.S. will be getting what? You be safe to think that all four major carriers will have the Galaxy Note 4. Each of the big guys even have sign-up pages live already. That leaves us wondering about the Galaxy Note Edge and the Gear VR. The Galaxy Note Edge has also been confirmed by all four major players too. I didn’t see that one coming actually. What about the Gear VR? I honestly didn’t expect anyone to carry this contraption. I figured it would be an online from Samsung type of offering. However, Sprint, and AT&T are apparently going to be offering it. I certainly hope Sprint and AT&T have demo units of the Gear VR in store, I’d love to take photos of unwitting people crashing into displays.

Quick recap:

T-Mobile – Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge (sign-up page)

AT&T – Samsung Galaxy Note 4, Note Edge and Gear VR. (Note 4 sign-up page / Note Edge sign-up page)

Verizon – Samsung galaxy note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge (sign-up page)

Sprint – Samsung Galaxy Note 4, Note Edge and Gear VR (sign-up page)

There is also confirmation that U.S. Cellular will indeed carrier the Galaxy Note 4, but the Note Edge and Gear VR don’t seem to be included anywhere.

Pricing and official launch dates are still under wraps at the moment. While Samsung has said the devices will be available in October, Sprint is the only carrier listing October on their sign-up page.

Isis mobile wallet becomes Softcard to distance itself from terrorists

Softcard logo

The Isis crew promised it would rebrand its mobile wallet to eliminate any confusion with ISIS, the Middle Eastern terrorist group, and today that change is at hand: meet Softcard. It’s not a particularly bold name, but the payment company believes that the “inherent simplicity” of its new badging could make it ubiquitous. Whether or not that’s true, the transition should happen relatively quickly. You should see the Isis Wallet app transform into Softcard within a few weeks. Traces of the old naming scheme will stick around for a short while, but it should be a distant memory before too long.

T-Mobile getting personal with September 10th event invites for Uncarrier 7.0

Looks like something has gotten under T-Mobile‘s John Legere’s skin again. the bad boy of the wireless industry just keeps pushing, and I like it. Invites to an event to announce Uncarrier 7.0 have started to make appearances with a very interesting message on them, “This time it’s personal.”

Uncarrier 7.0 T-Mobile

The pinkish block is covering the password that is on the invite. Not sure if each one has the same password or not. 9to5Google’s image shows “speakeasy”. The one above is from Tmonews.

The event is schedule for September 10th at 12:30 pm PST in San Francisco and will fully kickoff at 1pm. Interestingly enough, this isn’t being held at some lavish venue like usual. Instead it is being held at a corporate T-Mobile store on the corner of Market and 3rd. It should be interesting since Apple will be in town on the 9th.

What are you thinking T-Mobile will pull this time?

HTC’s One M8 for Windows is coming to T-Mobile, too

The HTC One M8 and Windows Phone 8.1 are two great tastes that (mostly) taste great together, and you’ll soon have a way to pick one up that doesn’t require inking a deal with Verizon or AT&T. T-Mobile revealed earlier today that it’ll offer the One M8 for Windows too, though like AT&T before it, the Uncarrier isn’t quite ready to divulge those juicy pricing and availability details just yet. It may seem like Sprint subscribers may be getting the short end of the stick, but that might not be the case for much longer — some of the new leakers on the block firmly assert that Marcelo Claure’s crew will get their chance down the road too. While y’all wait for those all-important details to drop, check out our full review to see if HTC’s newest Windows Phone is actually worth the wait (spoiler alert: very likely yes).

Music Freedom campaign from T-Mobile gaining 6 more services, Google Music coming

Back in June T-Mobile made a fairly awesome move that gave customers a break from their data consumption by letting you stream certain services without touching your data allotments. Sure, there were a few stipulations, like being on a plan that let you do it. Still, if streaming music is your bread and butter of data use, it certainly helped. At initial launch it offered up a variety of services that wouldn’t touch your allotment. Services like Spotify, Slacker, iHeartRadio and others. T-Mobile promised others would be added over time, but that the ones available at rollout were the heaviest used ones.

T-Mobile Free Streaming Music

Today T-Mobile is adding in a few other services to the list that should make some of you jump up and down. Starting today, if you are on the Simple Choice plan of course, you can stream from six newly added services; AccuRadio, Black Planet Radio, Grooveshark, Radio Paradise, Rdio and Songza.

“T-Mobile’s Music Freedom and services like Grooveshark are about bringing music accessibility to the consumer,” said Sam Tarantino, Co-founder and CEO of Grooveshark, “Together with Music Freedom, Grooveshark is creating a new kind of music discovery on T-Mobile devices. We believe the combined global audiences of millions represents a new and engaged audience for Grooveshark on T-Mobile.”

Now, before you throw your phone and curse out T-mobile for not adding Google Play Music, there is news on that front too. Google Play Music raked in three-quarters of a million votes in the poll for what should be added next. It topped the charts and is clearly the service we all want the most. T-Mobile says they are on track to bring Google Play Music into the fold later this year. While it isn’t ‘right this minute’ like many of us would like, it is coming. It is almost September, so later this year only gives them 4 months at most to pull it off. So sit tight a little longer guys.

An interesting set of numbers came out of the press release as well. Since the launch of the Music Freedom campaign, T-Mobile claims that customers have streamed 7 terabytes of music with 5 million more songs being played a day then before the launch. Obviously removing the data use on music has paid off for customers in a pretty big way.

Rdio, Songza and other music services won’t eat your T-Mobile data

T-Mobile’s Music Freedom initiative raised a few eyebrows when the Uncarrier revealed it a few months ago – it granted most-favored nation status to a handful of music streaming services so whatever data they used wouldn’t count against your monthly data cap. With Pandora, Spotify, iTunes Radio in the mix, the move seemed like a win for consumers… unless you happened to pay someone else to get your streaming fix. Thankfully, T-Mobile is finally expanding the list of supported services to include beloved also-rans like Rdio, Google-owned Songza, and more. Support for the six new streaming services has gone into effect today, but T-Mobile admitted in a statement that one fan-favorite service would take a little more time to set up. You see, the carrier kicked off a poll shortly after Music Freedom’s launch to see what unsupported service people wanted to use the most. The winner? None other than Google Play Music — hardly a surprise, but T-Mobile admitted in a statement that it won’t be added to the fold until later this year.
