The next Batman game on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 just got delayed to 2015

Remember when we told you that the next big Batman game was arriving on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC in 2014? That was apparently a stone cold lie. Well, at the time it wasn’t, but as of today, we’re in the wrong — Batman: Arkham Knight is now heading to the aforementioned game playing devices in 2015. When in 2015? That remains shrouded in darkness, like so much of The Dark Knight’s life. But when it does arrive, it’ll come with a tank-like virtual Batmobile (pictured above). And apparently the game has a tank mode? Find out whatever that means in the trailer below.

Sony retires the decade-old PSP in Japan to make way for the Vita

It had a good run, but Sony has decided to bring the curtain down on the PlayStation Portable. The company has announced that June’s shipment of the hardware will be the last in Japan, and local users looking to upgrade to the PS Vita can earn a $30 or $40 trade-in discount across the summer. The Verge is reporting that the handheld was quietly discontinued in North America back in January, and we’d assume that European sales of the ten-tear-old device will be next to face the chop. It looks as if Sony is now doing its best to push buyers toward the newly-resurgent PS Vita, which has ridden a wave of success kickstarted by indie titles like Hotline Miami.

Sony’s Xperia T3 is mid-range phone with premium looks

Sony has already launched most of its high-end models like the Xperia Z2, so it’s trying to spice up the arrival of its mid-range Xperia T3 model by touting the design. It claims that the otherwise modest 720p, quad-core 1.4GHz model is the “world’s slimmest” 5.3-inch smartphone at 7mm thick. That’s a weirdly specific stat, since there are much thinner devices like this 5.5mm Gionee smartphone. But with a stainless steel frame, Sony has premium aspirations for the Xperia T3 despite its mid-range niche. On top of the design, it’s pumping features like like an 8-megapixel Exmore RS back camera, LTE , a 5.3-inch Bravia IPS display and a 2,500 mAH battery, along with a suite of social and camera apps. The Xperia T3 will arrive globally at the end of July in black, purple and white, but Sony hasn’t said how much it’ll cost yet. For reference, the Xperia T2 was around $400.

Sony teasing upcoming smartphone on Twitter, likely Z2 Ultra

sony xperia z ultra 2_____

Sony Xperia Z Ultra was announced a year ago, a 6.3″ behemoth from Sony’s workshop. That phone was (and still is) huge, you need to use it in order to realize how huge that device is. And now it seems Sony is going to bring us the Z Ultra’s refresh.

Sony released a following statement on Twitter alongside an image above: “Shh… do you want to know a secret? Stay tuned for the next big thing this season.” If you ask us this is obviously a teaser for the upcoming Xperia Z Ultra 2 (just look at that picture), or whatever they intend to call this thing. Z Ultra had rather high-end specs at the time of the announcement, so we don’t doubt its successor will too.

We’ll let you know as soon as we get some more information regarding this. Do you own a Z Ultra? Would you buy its successor?

Mortal Kombat X heads to Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC in 2015

Mortal Kombat X

An official teaser for Mortal Kombat X landed on YouTube this morning, which raised as many questions as it answered. Yes, a new installment in the ultra-violent series from Netherrealm Studios is on track for release sometime in 2015. Yes, it’s headed to the PlayStation 4, PS3, Xbox One, 360 and PC. And yes, that’s Wiz Khalifa bringing his quick-witted lyrics to the original sound track. But what can we say about the game itself? Some of the teaser video almost has an in-game feel to it, with plausible graphics, fantastical moves (including the use of weapons from the environment) and hints of gruesome Sniper Elite-style forensic sequences — but it’s probably all just conceptual at this point. In any case, have a gander for yourself, and be advised that the video isn’t for youngsters. But hey, after nine MK titles, you probably guessed that already.

Has Sony started teasing the Sony Xperia Z Ultra 2?

Sony Xperia Z Ultra 2The Sony Xperia Z Ultra has a very special place in smartphone history. It was definitely the first device that made us question the line between phones and tablets with its 6.4-inch display, and while the size isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, it was widely considered as a very impressive piece of technology. One year on, we’re wondering if Sony is going to follow up the Z Ultra with another device, and if one of Sony’s latest tweets is anything to go by, a Sony Xperia Z Ultra 2 might not be that far away.

The above tweet was posted earlier today and assuming a clever play on words is at hand, a certain “next big thing” is going to be coming this “season”. In the photo that is attached to the tweet, we see the side profile of a Sony device, given away by the textbook Sony power button as well as what looks like a volume rocker and dedicated camera button. Whether this is actually the Z Ultra 2 is up for debate, but it is one of the only major devices that Sony has yet to refresh this year. What’s actually impressive is that given their reputation for having devices inadvertantly leaked early, Sony has managed to keep the device under wraps this time around. Either way, we should be finding out about this device sooner or later.

What do you think about Sony’s cryptic tweet? Do you think they are referring to the Sony Xperia Z Ultra 2? Let us know your opinion in the comments.

Got PlayStation Plus? You’re now getting two games every month

PlayStation 4 DualShock 4 controller

Now that Microsoft is offering free games each month to Xbox One owners with Live Gold subscriptions, Sony is in a tough spot — how does it get you to buy a console and sign up for PlayStation Plus? By giving you more games, that’s what. As of June, Plus members get two games per month for every PlayStation platform they use, whether it’s a PS3, PS4 or Vita. Availability will also be more consistent as of July. From then on, you’ll see the new Plus titles arrive (and old titles phase out) on the first Tuesday of a given month.

The usual gotcha for Plus applies. Unlike Microsoft’s program, which lets you hold on to games even after your subscription lapses, Sony’s service requires that you keep shelling out to continue playing any giveaways. It’s not a perfect deal, then, but it’s hard to object to getting additional games at no extra charge.

Watch Dogs: The Joystiq Review

The advanced technology in Watch Dogs is not just indistinguishable from magic – it IS magic. The game would have you believe you’re the world’s most powerful hacker, bending surveillance cameras, traffic control and all manner of personal electronics to your one-touch whims. But in this paranoid vision of the future, in which every mundane device is grafted to the same computerized skeleton, the right software might as well be an all-powerful wand.

Wouldn’t you like to be the wizard?

PlayStation 4 to get pre-loading of all pre-order games starting with Destiny

Tired of making sandwich after sandwich, idly waiting while the ol’ PlayStation 4 downloads Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes? Though we’d never encourage you to stop making delicious sandwiches, we do sympathize with the situation. Thankfully for you, Sony’s adding pre-loading of all pre-ordered upcoming games to the PlayStation 4 starting this fall with Bungie’s next big game: Destiny. That means you can download the whole shebang ahead of the game’s “official” launch on September 9th, and when midnight strikes, you’re ready to go. Bizarrely, the news comes via PlayStation Network message from Ubisoft; as seen above, Watch Dogs (which launches this Tuesday) won’t have pre-loading. Sorry Charlie! Come September, however, you’re good to go.
