Sony Sirius Viv (D6503) is Verizon’s Sony Xperia Z2?
Earlier this month we saw a leaked Xperia Z2 Tablet with a Verizon logo; now we have a new leak on the Sony Xperia Z2 smartphone for Verizon Wireless.
According to @evleaks the reason we have not seen this handset in the U.S. yet is due to the fact that this is a specific variant of the phone (LTE-Advanced). Reportedly, the device will come under the Sony Sirius Viv (D6503) name and it should arrive during the middle of next quarter.
Verizon customers: your wait for the Sony XPERIA Z2 will not have been in vain. The delay, if you want to call it that, is due to the fact that a very specific variant, one that supports LTE-Advanced, must wind its way through the certification and testing processes. Look for the Sony Sirius Viv (D6503) during the middle of next quarter.

The Sony Xperia Z2 is the official smartphone of the World Cup 2014
Samsung was a big winner at the Winter Olympics earlier this year with its branding slapped everywhere at every event, going so far as to release a special Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Olympics Games Edition, unveiled just before the competition started. Probably to Samsung’s behest, there is only one event that is arguably more watched than the Olympics and that event is the FIFA World Cup, for which the Official Partner is none other than Sony. And earlier this week, Sony released a commercial to celebrate that the Sony Xperia Z2 is the official smartphone of the World Cup 2014:
With an emphasis on “feeling every detail”, something that should be very possible with the Z2′s Triluminos display, Sony’s commercial tries to sell the Z2 on the basis that not everyone is going to be at the World Cup, though from the reports that are coming out of Brazil recently, it seems like most of us are better off not being there at all. Relatedly, Sony is also hosting the Sony Football Challenge, for which Sony is offering some very generous prizes. All you have to do is correctly guess the scores of all 64 World Cup matches. Rumour says that Sony Xperia Z3 will be here in September and will be 7mm thick, and no new Z Ultra
Very soon after the announcement of the Sony Xperia Z2, Creative Director of Sony Mobile, Kurozumi Yoshiro, went on record to say that they were hoping to adopt a biannual flagship cycle, not-so-obviously dropping the hint that a probably Sony Xperia Z3 might be due sometime in the latter half of 2014. Now that we’re on the cusp of that second half of the year, Sony leaker, DooMLoRD, has come out of the woodwork to give some new info on the Xperia Z3. According to DooMLoRD, the Xperia Z3 will be here in September but not have the elusive Snapdragon 805 processor that everybody in the Android community has been hoping for. He mentions that the Xperia Z3 will have a new design, though we would expect Sony not to stray too far from the Xperia formula, and also that the bezels will be slimmer (a sticking point for some) and will be 7mm thin. That’s more than a millimetre thinner than the Xperia Z2, and only a hair thicker than its form factor cousin, the Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet.
While the lack of a Snapdragon 805 is probably bad news for some enthusiasts holding out for the Xperia Z3, the news that took me by surprise the most is the suggestion that there won’t be an Xperia Z Ultra successor. Just a few days ago, we thought Sony was teasing a new device that would succeed the Z Ultra, however it turned out to be a teaser for the Xperia T3. Even so, the Z Ultra was critically acclaimed as a brilliant device despite its size and if this is true, then that is truly disappointing.

Poll: What is the best flagship smartphone of 2014?
We’re nearly halfway into the year and we’ve got a lot of great smartphones out there. Right now we are surrounded by flagships like the Samsung Galaxy S5, HTC One M8, and the Sony Xperia Z2. Looking ahead we have the soon-to-be-released LG G3 joining the fray. Suffice it so say, all of them are amazing smartphones and each would be welcome in our hands. But, just for fun, let’s find out which one of them is the best of the bunch?
Internally, we each have our preferences and favorites, but we want to hear what our readers think. In the poll below we want you to pick the best of the big four releases so far. Why we love (and hate) our smartphones [EDITORIAL]
In the world of mobile devices, specifically mobile phones, we all have our favorite device as well as our favorite manufacturer that we constantly rely on and steadily buy from. At the same time we also have things that we don’t like about certain manufacturers, such as the way they make devices, their UI/UX, the lack of battery life, too many “features” gimmicks as they tend to call them and many other things.
Today, I’m going to give you my own personal opinions about the devices that I have used over the past 3 years, which ones I liked, why I liked them, as well as the manufacturers that I prefer to use the devices from, and those that just turn my head away completely.

Devices I’ve Owned
I started in the world of Android back in late June of 2011 and my first device was the HTC MyTouch 4G through T-Mobile. I kept the device stock from the day I got until the day I got rid of it about 8 months later when I made the switch to Verizon to get the ever impressive and loved Samsung Galaxy Nexus. I ended up rooting the Nexus after about a month, because I wanted something different.
After keeping the Galaxy Nexus for a bit of time, I moved up the the Samsung Galaxy S4. Again, I rooted this device after a short period of time and I’ll explain why a bit later. After the S4 came the LG G2 which I managed to keep for a whopping 6 months via AT&T and then as usual, it was time to change devices again.
Now enter the time that I started up AndroidDissected which is now TechDissected and always having access to the latest and greatest devices for review purposes. Since these sites came into existence, I’ve owned devices such as the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, Note 3, Galaxy Mega, Galaxy S4 Activ. Then there’s devices such as the aforementioned LG G2, the LG G Flex, LG Nexus 4, and a couple of others. HTC had a couple of devices in there, such as the HTC One(M7) and HTC One(M8), the HTC Amaze and the HTC Sensation.
Also in that list is now my daily driver, the Motorola Moto X, and previously before that was my Motorola Moto G which I still own. There are of course other devices that I’m sure I’m forgetting to mention, but the point is, I’ve owned devices from all of the major manufacturers that most everyone reading this will have used at least one device from. This gives me solid ground to tell what I like about certain devices or manufacturers as well as the things I don’t particularly care for.
One thing to note is that no where in this article am I comparing battery life of years ago to the battery life we have today in some devices. I’m also not comparing Froyo or Ice Cream Sandwich to today’s Jelly Bean. I’m simply comparing devices to devices and things that I either liked or disliked about each device and/or manufacturer that produced them.

Sony Xperia Z2, which was announced during MWC in February has been officially launched today in India at a price of INR 49,900. It also comes with a lot of freebies including a free Sony SmartBand fitness tracker worth INR 5,990. Other freebies include free accidental damage protection for 6 months and 6 movies free from Xperia Lounge store. It competes with flagship smartphones from other brands such as Apple iPhone 5S, HTC One M8, Samsung Galaxy S5 and LG G Pro 2.

The price of the Xperia Z2 in India is lower than that of the Samsung Galaxy S5, which was priced at INR 51,500 during its launch. The Xperia Z2 exactly matches with the price of HTC One M8′s in India. The Sony SmartBand is being bundled for free with the Xperia Z2 and it might attract buyers.

Sony finally brings phones to the U.S. with the Xperia Z2
Its not unknown that Sony has all but left the United States out of their flagship plans for awhile now. While they somewhat catered to the U.S. with the introduction of the Xperia Z1S, it still had been downgraded replacing a lot of its metal and glass components with plastic to save money. However, they have finally decided to bring the Xperia Z2 to the States in all its glory.
This doesn’t mean there won’t be a bit of a wait, though. We already have seen Sony dragging out the release of the Z2 in all markets because of shortages. Therefore, the phone will not surface in the U.S. for a few months yet. The release is simply set to happen sometime in the summer.
We highly doubt that Sony will be drastically increasing its market in the U.S., though, because there is still no announcement of the Z2 coming out on carriers just yet. The phone will only be sold through Sony’s site in its unlocked form as of right now.
In some ways, it is awesome that Sony is finally shipping its flagship handsets over to the U.S. to be sold, but in other ways it is slightly disappointing. The Z2 has been one of the most anticipated smartphones of this year so far, and its a shame that they haven’t gotten on board with U.S. carriers to start spreading their powerful devices through North America.

Sony Xperia Z2 will be coming to the U.S. but won’t be available from any Carriers
For some people, their next smartphone purchase is going to be Sony’s latest flagship smartphone, the Sony Xperia Z2, however for fans in the U.S., it hasn’t yet been confirmed when the device will become available. Today, we’ve learned that the Sony Xperia Z2 will be coming to the U.S. later this summer, but perhaps most surprisingly the Xperia Z2 won’t be carried by any of America’s networks, not even T-Mobile who exclusively carried the Xperia Z1S. What this means is that the Xperia Z2 will only be available from the Sony online store.
While this situation seems dire (and likely a deal breaker for some), it’s still better than if you wanted to get the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact, which Sony has flatly said will not be available at all. The timing, however, is interesting as we have heard from Sony themselves that they are planning to speed up their flagship device cycle meaning the availability of the Xperia Z2 is likely going to be very close to the time the Xperia Z3 becomes available. It’s pretty clear that Sony is not yet focused on making America a prime market for them, instead focussing closer to home in the Asia region, but only time will tell if they bring their devices over to the U.S. in force later on.

Android smartphones ranked by pixels per inch
It used to be a battle of Megapixels between smartphones to showcase their superiority in the market, but now that has moved over to Pixels Per Inch (PPI), manufactures are now looking at ways of packing more pixels into their displays.
PPI contributes to many factors, but most significantly it is how sharp and crisp the display looks. There is a certain amount of pixels per inch that the human eye can distinguish and this varies given the size of the display, and achieving a higher PPI count means users aren’t able to see those individual pixels during normal operating conditions.
We’ve taken the latest smartphones available on the market and ranked them in order of their PPI count to give an idea who is winning the battle of pixels.

While we heard that Sony has finally announced availability of the Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet in the U.S. today, some lucky people around the world have already gotten their hands on the devices and the first impressions have been good. Most people have been commenting on how insanely light it is and how clear the screen 1920×1200 resolution, Triluminos display is. With each release of a new device, many of us wonder about the hardware and how the UI performance is; others of us just wonder what new wallpapers have now been made available. And thanks to a system dump by XDA forum member, bbarou, we got our hands on the system dump for the new Sony tablet and extracted the wallpapers. So, without further ado, here are the Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet wallpapers (all 30 of them):
As you can probably tell, there is a bit of overlap with the wallpapers that were available with the Z2 Tablet‘s smartphone brethren, the Sony Xperia Z2, however there are quite a few new ones too. Sony’s full frontal assault on the Android market continues with the Z2 Tablet and marks the first tablet device available with the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor (see its full specs here). It’s also being boasted as the slimmest tablet on the market, which is likely to account for the comments about its incredible lightness. And despite this, the Z2 Tablet retains Sony’s trademark waterproofing that makes it once again one of the most formidable tablet entries on the market.
