Samsung Galaxy S5 LTE-A gets announced with Quad HD display and Snapdragon 805
There has been a lot of noise lately being made about the Samsung Galaxy F, or Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime as it’s also known as. This device is supposed to build on the original Galaxy S5 with a bigger screen and a faster processor. Well, Samsung has today announced something like that, but it’s not quite what we expected. The Samsung Galaxy S5 LTE-A was announced today, and like the Galaxy S4 LTE-A that was released last year, looks like the original Galaxy device it’s based off with slightly better hardware specs and the ability to harness the speeds of LTE-Advanced networks.
Perhaps surprisingly, the Galaxy S5 LTE-A features a 5.1-inch Quad HD display giving it a pixel count of a whopping 577 ppi. Better still, the device is the first to benefit from the all new Snapdragon 805 which sprints along at 2.5GHz and houses the new Adreno 420 GPU. The remainder of the specs remain the same, and will be available in Charcoal Black, Shimmer White, Electric Blue, Copper Gold, Sweet Pink and Glam Red. Unfortunately, also like the Galaxy S4 LTE-A, the S5 iteration is also going to be an exclusive to South Korea, and will cost 940,500 won (or about $920 USD) when it goes on sale June 19th.
While some have already dismissed rumours of the Galaxy S5 Prime or Galaxy F in the light of the Galaxy S5 LTE-A’s release, something doesn’t quite add up, in particular the fact multiple rumours have specified a larger screen (5.2-inch) and a different back cover. While this might just all end up in the pit of dead rumours, I’m not quite willing to admit that this is all Samsung has in store till the Note 4. What do you think about the Samsung Galaxy S5 LTE-A? Do you think this is the Galaxy F/Galaxy S5 Prime that we’ve been hearing about? Let us know your opinion in the comments.

Galaxy S5 LTE-A is Samsung’s first phone with a QHD display and Snapdragon 805 chip
Samsung has just announced a special variant of the Galaxy S5 for its home market. The phone — simply dubbed Galaxy S5 LTE-A — plays host to the manufacturer’s first 2,560 x 1,440 display, which produces an even higher pixel density than the LG G3 (577 vs. 538 ppi) due to the use of a slightly smaller 5.1-inch panel. We’re also seeing the first appearance of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 805 chipset (rather than an in-house Exynos processor), which is accompanied by 3GB of RAM and is built to handle 4K video playback and faster graphics in general. This chip supports LTE-Advanced too, which will apparently deliver data speeds of up to 225Mb/s to stunned, jaw-dropped customers on South Korean networks. Meanwhile, there’s no word on whether this variant is headed to the West, or whether it’s the fabled Galaxy S5 Prime that has been rumored for so long. But even if this is a Korea-only product, it can still be seen as a test-run for the global release of the impending Galaxy Note 4, which will almost certainly pack many of the same specs and components.

Samsung’s ‘Gear VR’ trademark sounds a lot like a virtual reality headset
Heard some of those Samsung VR headset murmurs? Well, you probably heard them from us, but here’s the latest updates: the company has just registered a trademark for “Gear VR”. The Engadget editorial team had posited a few naming ideas for Samsung’s VR wearable on a recent podcast, but it seems the company is keeping it simple. Gear would fold mean device would fold into its family of wearables, while VR stands for… well, we’re not going to spell it out.

Samsung hints that its next Galaxy Note phone will have a quad HD display
It’s no surprise that Samsung would make a new Galaxy Note smartphone given the series’ very healthy sales, but just how is the company going to improve on the design of the Note 3? By giving it a quad HD screen, apparently. The company has posted a web profile for an unannounced SM-N910A (the Note 3 for AT&T is the SM-N900A) that includes a 2,560 x 1,440 display, hinting that the future Galaxy Note will pack visuals roughly as sharp as LG’s G3. It also backs what we’ve heard about Oculus VR getting greater-than-1080p OLED screens from the Korean tech firm. There aren’t any other big clues in the profile, but they come on the heels of import data that suggests the next Note will maintain the same 5.7-inch screen size as its predecessor — Samsung may be resisting the urge to produce a truly gigantic phone like the G Pro 2 or Lumia 1520.
As for what’s behind that new panel? That’s tougher to prove. SamMobile claims that the new Note will be powered by a speedier Snapdragon 805 or Exynos 5433 processor (depending on the market) and ship with a newly stabilized 16-megapixel camera. Those make sense when Galaxy Notes are historically more powerful than the Galaxy S models they follow, but nothing’s set in concrete — we wouldn’t rule out a surprise or two. If the profile is accurate, though, fans of Samsung’s larger handsets have at least a visual upgrade to look forward to this year.

New reports says Galaxy Note 4 to have a 5.7″ QHD screen

The Samsung Galaxy Note line is increasingly popular and each year more people can’t wait to get their hands on the new edition of the phone. Recent rumors suggested the forthcoming device will sport QHD screen along with a Snapdragon 805 chip and see official announcement at IFA 2014. All of that might still be true but we have some new reports to add to the mix that is the Galaxy Note 4.
Considering SM-N900 was the model number for the Galaxy Note 3, SM-N910A should be the Note 4′s model. That number popped up on Samsung’s website in a User Agent profile showing a QHD screen (1,440×2,560). That’s not all, though, as that same model is also mentioned on Zauba, an Indian website which tracks imports and exports. It appears that the Galaxy Note 4 should also keep a 5.7″ screen size from the Note 3, bumping only its resolution.
IFA 2014 is still a few months away so there’s still time until we see this device announced. This means we’ll probably see many more rumors and reports regarding this device until then. Are you one of those people who is considering the phone?

The Samsung Galaxy F gets spotted in gold, allegedly launching in September
A pair of leaks regarding the Samsung Galaxy F, also known as the Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime, have come to light recently. The first relates to the above press render, which shows the Galaxy F in gold, with the “brushed metal” back of the device bearing the brunt of the gaudy colour scheme. Gold isn’t an unfamiliar colour to Samsung who already has a Copper Gold version of the Galaxy S5 in the market. The second leak relates to the release date of the Galaxy F which is allegedly due to launch in September this year.
Both these leaks come from the one and only @evleaks, but what’s especially unusual about the release date rumour is that IFA 2014 is in that month and has traditionally been reserved for Samsung‘s other flagship smartphone device, the Samsung Galaxy Note. The successor in that line of devices, the Galaxy Note 4, is expected to launch at IFA, which would make the launching of the Galaxy F alongside it a bit awkward, though probably not for the Galaxy Note 4. All the same, this is all unconfirmed and we’ll have to wait and see what Samsung does with this device, if and when it comes to market.
What do you think about the Samsung Galaxy F in gold? Would you be interested in the Galaxy F over the Galaxy Note 4? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

Samsung Galaxy F (S5 Prime) leaked showing possible release date

Details of a device which is suspected to be the premium version of the Galaxy S5, dubbed the Samsung Galaxy F or Galaxy S5 Prime, have been surfacing lately leading to belief that such a device actually exists.
The latest leak comes courtesy of @evleaks again which looks very much like a Galaxy S5 from the front, but shows what appears to be a a metal rear cover, or at least what looks like a metal cover which could easily be metal-looking plastic. However, given the S5 Prime is supposed to be a premium device, it is suspected to be a high-end metal back.
Further information on the leak seems to stem from the date shown on the screenshot which may suggest a release date. Press images tend to show the date in which the device will become available and this one shows 12th September (which is actually a Friday) and is two days after the IFA electronics show.
Whilst any leak must be taken with precaution, and especially any speculation of release date from a static date on an image, the Galaxy S5 Prime may have just been confirmed together with it’s release date.

Samsung officially launches its Samsung Galaxy Tab S tablets; Super AMOLED displays for All
We’ve been hearing lots about the Samsung Galaxy Tab S tablets even before they were officially announced, but they now that they have been, we can laud at them for what they really are. Samsung announced a pair of Tab S devices at its Tab into Color event on June 12th, available in 10.5-inch and 8.4-inch variants. If you’re wondering why Samsung is launching yet more tablets, CEO and President of their IT & Mobile Division, JK Shin, elaborates: “The tablet is becoming a popular personal viewing device for enjoying content, which makes the quality of the display a critical feature.” And sure enough, both of the Tab S tablets are equipped with striking 2560×1600 resolution Super AMOLED displays.
These tablets don’t just have a pretty face however; both tablets are available with either a Samsung Exynos 5 Octa or Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor (depending on your region), come with 3GB RAM, and either 16 or 32GB storage versions. The 8.4-inch version comes with a very respectable 4,900mAh battery and the 10.5-inch variant gets a massive 7,900mAh battery. All of this you might think makes the Tab S devices quite thick; quite the contrary, in fact as both the tablets measure just 6.6mm thick, only a hair thicker than the also slim Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet. Both versions are available in either Titanium Bronze or Dazzling White and will become available in certain markets next month.
And if you were hoping to catch the whole Tab into Color event because you missed it on the day, you can catch the whole event recorded below:
