Samsung using Sony’s IMX240 camera sensor for the Galaxy Note 4

Samsung_Galaxy_Note_4_Back_Camera_Lens_Heart_Rate_Monitor_Closeup_TA

The Galaxy Note 4 is no slouch in any area. The phone is an absolute beast and one of the standout features is the 16-megapixel camera. Much of the time, hardware manufacturers go with components supplied by competitors. That is exactly the case with the Galaxy Note 4′s camera sensor. It is the IMX240 camera sensor from Sony. This is a departure from Samsung’s ISOCELL camera sensor that was used with the Galaxy S 5. It is possible that Samsung wants to leave all of its in-house parts for its true flagship phone.

The NSA can now use Samsung’s Galaxy phones for classified work

A computer workstation bears the Nationa

Samsung Galaxy phones and tablets have just become the first consumer mobile devices approved by the US National Security Agency (NSA) to carry classified documents. The edict covers most of its newer Galaxy devices, including the Galaxy S5, Galaxy Note 4, and the Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet (2014 edition) — as long as they’re equipped with Knox, Samsung’s mobile security app. Knox-enabled devices have already been approved by the US Department of Defense, but only for general, not classified, use. That’s a shot of good news for Samsung in the face of recent dismal earnings, and it no doubt wants to translate the NSA’s golden nod into consumer and corporate sales. Ironically, many of those potential customers may be paranoid… of the NSA.

Barnes & Noble Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Nook 10.1 now available for $299.99

Earlier this year Barns & Noble teamed up with Samsung to release the Galaxy Tab 4 Nook 7. It was a bump up from the tablet e-readers that B&N attempted to make in past years. The Tab4 Nook is still a thing and is currently being sold through Barnes & Noble for $169.99 after a $30 instant rebate. However, today they have brought the larger Tab variant to the store front with the Galaxy Tab 4 Nook 10.1.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Nook 10.1

From a hardware standpoint you are getting a 1.2GHz Qualcomm processor, 1.5GB of RAM, 16GB on-board storage, micro SD slot, 3MP rear camera, 1.3MP front camera and a 6,800 mAh battery. They have the larger tablet variant priced at $299.99 after a $50 instant rebate. Which isn’t much of a difference when the safe non Nook branded tablet is still $299.99. B&N does go above and beyond though. If you do purchase the Tab 4 Nook 10.1, or the 7, you will receive over $200 worth of best selling books, magazines, apps and TV shows for free, plus a $5 starter credit.

Barnes & Noble announces 10.1-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 NOOK 10.1

samsung galaxy tab 4 nook

Earlier this year Barnes & Noble released the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Nook 7.0, a collaboration effort with Samsung to provide the functionality of a normal tablet and the benefits of an eReader. Well, on Wednesday they announced another tablet, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Nook 10.1.

Despite the long name, B&N looks to provide more options to consumers when it comes to the eReader tablet market, with the option to choose between a 7-inch model, and now a 10.1-inch model. What’s great about this is you can get a Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 for $300, and included is over $200 worth of free content from the Nook store. I don’t care who you are, that’s a good deal.

The tablet will be available at B&N bookstores nationwide, as well as on bn.com and nook.com immediately. Evidently you’ll get a refreshed version of the Nook interface as an over-the-air update once you purchase it that will have a refreshed look, more content searching tools, and more.

Would you get this tablet? Even if just for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 10.1″ for cheap?

Samsung’s big Galaxy Tab 4 gets the Barnes & Noble treatment

We weren’t terribly fond of Samsung and Barnes & Noble’s first tablet mashup, but it seems at least a few people were. If you happen to fall into that category, congratulations — that odd couple has something else that might be up your alley. The new Galaxy Tab 4 Nook 10.1 is technically the largest Nook ever released (only because Samsung already did the heavy lifting with design and production) and once again it’s basically a stock tablet with BN apps like Nook Library and Nook Shop sprinkled into the mix for good measure. Everything else — from the 1.2GHz Qualcomm chipset running the show, to the 10.1-inch display running at 1280×800, to the full eye-searing load of Samsung software tweaks — is a well-known quantity so you’ll know exactly what you’re getting into. On the plus side at least, the Nook-ified version of the Tab 4 10.1 costs the same $199 as the bog-standard version (after instant rebate, at least) and comes with $200 of sweet, sweet content gratis. Interest piqued? You can pick up yours starting today, but you should only do so after thinking about it really, really hard.

Samsung launches budget-friendly Galaxy Core Max in China

galaxy-core-max

Samsung’s method of releasing an insane amount of phones is clearly working for them, so today Samsung continues that tradition with the launch of the Galaxy Core Max. Currently exclusive to China, the Core Max is a dual SIM budget device with the model number SM-G5108Q and ships with Android 4.4.4 KitKat.

Under the hood is an unnamed quad-core 1.2GHz processor (possibly the 64-bit Snapdragon 410), 1GB of RAM and 8GB of built-in storage (expandable thanks to a microSD slot). Also onboard is a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED qHD (540×960) display powered by a 2,200mAh battery. On the back is an 8-megapixel camera and a redesigned speaker grille. The front-facing camera uses a 5-megapixel sensor. No word on pricing but its safe to assume it will be cheap and will likely launch in other markets in the coming weeks.

Samsung teases the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Android Lollipop update with a sweet tweet

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Android Lollipop updateWith the official release of Android Lollipop, all eyes are on the manufacturers to see which of them can get their updates out the fastest. It’s no surprise then that Samsung has tweeted the above picture to presumably confirm that the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Android Lollipop update is on its way. Hopefully the update comes a little faster than this year’s update to the Note 3 which really only started in late February, and while that was certainly faster than some other manufacturers, we expect better from Android’s most prolific OEM to date. Perhaps they will be a little faster this time if they don’t put TouchWiz over everything that Google has painstakingly redesigned with Material Design…

The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is Samsung’s most attractive package yet in 2014, with a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED Quad HD display powered by the Snapdragon 805, it’s one of the few phones out at the moment which even holds a torch to the size and functionality of the Nexus 6 – and yes, in this particular instance, size is a good thing. Samsung’s track record of updates certainly isn’t without tarnish, because although its flagship devices usually get updates sooner or later, plenty of its mid to low range devices never see an update, something we’ll be keeping an eye on this time around with Android Lollipop.

Samsung teases Lollipop update for Galaxy Note 4

Samsung_Galaxy_Note_4_Front_Home_Capacitive_Buttons_TA

Samsung recently published a tweet teasing an upcoming Lollipop update for its flagship phablet of 2014, the Note 4. As you’d expect, updating their devices to Android 5.0 is a priority for any manufacturer, but what’s a little strange is that the South Korean company is already publicizing its plans to roll out the upgrade even though Google is still in the process of loading its servers with its final code.

This leaves one question on the tip of our tongues: How close can Samsung really be to rolling out the update? Unfortunately, there isn’t an answer to this question, but it is important to bear in mind that HTC is currently the only OEM to promise a delivery date, which is 90 days after they receive final code from Google. Seeing as the search engine giant hasn’t published this information as of yet, neither manufacturers could have possibly started on development.

So, understandably, we’re a little confused as to what exactly Samsung is teasing here. Is it just announcing that the update is on the way? Or is it actually revealing that it will be here sooner rather than later? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section down below.
