OnePlus 2 open sale commences in India

OnePlus 2 Amazon India

The OnePlus 2 has been on the market for a little while now, albeit with that pesky invite system still in place, but Indian consumers will be able to pick up the smartphone without the need for an invite this Wednesday to Friday.

If you’ve been looking to get your hands on one, you should head on over to Amazon India, the main portal for OnePlus sales in the country. The sale is already live and you can grab the 64GB Sandstone Black model for RS. 24,999. Purchases are restricted to just one per customer, due to the limited availability of stock, and the sale ends at 11:59pm on November 27th.

This is pretty good news for Indian consumers, as supply of OnePlus 2 invites doesn’t appear to have trickled through quite as far as was promised. The company has received its share of criticism after stating that invites would be more readily available than they were with the OnePlus One. To help shift more units, OnePlus already held an open sale in India last month.

A couple of days ago, OnePlus also announced that its latest flagship smartphone would appear for sale invite-free on Black Friday, when purchasing through its OnePlus.net website. The company will also be offering a selection of discounts on its range of accessories.

Is anyone planning on picking up a OnePlus 2 before the year is out, or has the hype passed already?

Buy the OnePlus 2 with no invite during Black Friday, accessories also discounted

oneplus 2 launch aa (36 of 93)

Every company is announcing its Black Friday deals, but we know many of you already have a good deal in mind… one that needs no special days to give you great value for your cash. Of course, by now you can assume we are talking about the OnePlus 2, a device with high-end specs and a price that is nearly impossible to beat.

At $329 off-contract, the OnePlus 2 is a hell of a deal, so don’t expect to see an additional discount coming. Instead, OnePlus aims to take people away from the so-called “deals” and have them go with the OnePlus 2 instead. This phone is normally very hard to get, due to the invite system the company uses to control supply and demand. But this November 27th things will change, and OnePlus is hoping to have all of us blasting to its digital doors to buy OnePlus 2 devices.

No invites will be needed from November 27th to November 30th! The company calls the event “Black Friday Unlimited”, a moniker that makes quite a bit of sense. In addition to having the privilege of buying a OnePlus 2, customers will also be able to enjoy “incredible deals” on other OnePlus products. Details on these offers haven’t been disclosed, but the Chinese startup tells us we should stay tuned to their Twitter account to learn about them as soon as news is released (always hyping things up!).

Are any of you considering getting a OnePlus 2 this Black Friday weekend? We know it’s not really a discount, but looking through our list of favorite Black Friday deals we can say that no comparable phones offer quite the same value, even when discounted. You might be better off just getting a OnePlus 2 during its first open sale event, now that you can actually put your name to one!

For Black Friday, OnePlus removes invite requirement to purchase its flagship

OnePlus_2_Black_friday_no_invites_banner_112315

Many criticize OnePlus for its invite system; however, during Black Friday and through the rest of the weekend, anyone will be able to purchase the OnePlus 2 without an invitation.

From November 27 to November 30, consumers can purchase the OnePlus 2 without having an invitation. OnePlus rarely provides opportunities like this, so if you’re in the market for the company’s flagship, now may be the best time.

OnePlus is also holding a series of other promotions and sales but didn’t specify exactly what just yet. You can expect to see a discounted price on the company’s OnePlus X (that may or may not be a smart purchase). But, of course, an invite might be required to purchase the handset.

OnePlus now offering extended warranty program in US and Canada

oneplus 2 review aa (18 of 38)

OnePlus recently launched an extended warranty program in Europe and India, and now it’s bringing a similar service to North America.

OnePlus’ On-Guard by Assurant program will allow new customers to pay a fee in exchange of a period of Extended Service Coverage and Accidental Damage from Handling.

Extended Service Coverage is a warranty that provides replacement coverage in case your device fails due to “manufacturer’s defects in material and workmanship that reveal themselves in normal usage.” In other words, if your OnePlus 2 or OnePlus X breaks during the extended warranty, you will receive a new device.

Accidental Damage from Handling offers protection against accidents like drops, liquid spills, and cracks. This is the coverage that you want if you’re prone to accidents and you don’t like smothering your device with bulky cases.

Assurant Solutions is OnePlus’ partner in the US and Canada. The company, which specializes in various specialty insurance solutions, has a “mobile device repair and refurbishment center” in the U.S. That will hopefully ensure fast turnarounds for OnePlus customers.

Here’s the breakdown of the available plans, in the US and Canada.

For now, OnePlus only allows you to sign up for On-Guard right after your purchase a device. The company said it’s working on bringing the option to existing customers. The OnePlus X was just introduced in the United States yesterday, with the well-known caveat that you require an invitation to buy one.

The original OnePlus One, in particular, has been dogged by various hardware issues, and the OnePlus 2 isn’t without its problems. The fact that OnePlus requires you to ship your device back to China for honoring the warranty does not help with the peace of mind. If you’re worried about it, these extended warranty solutions may offer you some solace.

OnePlus Android Marshmallow update is coming in Q1 2016

http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();

Seems like today is a good day to announce your plans for an Android software update – after ASUS announced their plan, OnePlus has chimed in to say that their OnePlus Android Marshmallow update is coming in Q1 2016.

Detailing their plan, OnePlus says OnePlus 2 owners can expect their update to Android Marshmallow to include the standard API for fingerprint scanning that Google has cooked up, getting rid of the method that OnePlus included in OxygenOS at launch.

For the OnePlus One, OnePlus will be releasing a Cyanogen OS update in the Q1 window, but won’t be releasing an OxygenOS update until “time allows” – that’s kind of a bummer for people who have come to love the even more stock feeling of OxygenOS.

However, that’s not as much of a bummer as owning a OnePlus X. Despite being OnePlus’ latest device release, the OnePlus X wasn’t given a timeline in OnePlus’ forum post, with the only promise of this being “we will update you on a time frame at a later time”. At the very least, OnePlus is on the case, so keep your eyes and ears open for more news in the near future.

What do you think about OnePlus’ strategy for rolling out Android Marshmallow updates? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

OnePlus responds to allegations that its USB Type-C accessories are out of spec

http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();

A few days ago, an investigation by Google engineer Benson Leung found that OnePlus‘ USB Type-C accessories might be out of step with the standard. OnePlus has now responded to the claims, saying that its accessories – its cable and adapter – are compliant with USB 2.0 and Type-C 1.0 standards, curiously omitting the 1.1 standard for USB Type-C which is arguably the more important one. With USB Type-C 1.1, a connected device can be charged with up to 3A – this is what the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P are designed to do. However, if you use anything lower than 1.1, you risk damage to your device – as Leung explains it:

“Having a weaker than 3A charger is actually a risk factor because the device being charged will always try to charge at 3 and if the older adapter can’t handle 3A, that is when it might be damaged.”

OnePlus confirms that its own cables are right for the OnePlus 2 to be charged and transfer data, but it’s clear the cables shouldn’t be used for more recent devices like the new Nexuses where damage is possible. Looks like we’re going to have to wait a little bit longer before USB Type-C is truly a mainstream standard.

What do you think about OnePlus’ response to Benson Leung’s findings? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

OnePlus One and OnePlus 2 will get Marshmallow in Q1 2015

oneplus 2 vs oneplus one aa (13 of 27)

OnePlus announced on its forums a rough timeline for the Marshmallow update for its three smartphones.

The original OnePlus One will receive its serving of Marshmallows sometime in Q1 2016, via Cyanogen Inc. Despite the public breakup between OnePlus and Cyanogen, Steve Kondik’s company continues to support the OnePlus One with updates, as per its original commitment.

Kondik recently revealed that Cyanogen targets a release for CyanogenMod 13 (based on Android 6.0) by Christmas. However, this tentative ETA refers to CyanogenMod, the community project, while the commercial Cyanogen OS 13 will only follow suit in 2016.

Concerning its semi-official Oxygen OS build for the OnePlus One, OnePlus said it will offer an update “when the time allows.”

Moving on to this year’s devices, founder Carl Pei said that the OnePlus 2 will get a Marshmallow-based build of Oxygen OS in Q1 2016. Pei specified that the update won’t bring a custom fingerprint API, as some users have requested; instead, the firmware will make use of Google’s standard fingerprint sensor API, which is built into Marshmallow.

As for the new OnePlus X, OnePlus is not ready to offer any information at this point.

OnePlus – like other Android OEMs – found itself in an embarrassing situation early this year, when it failed to deliver on its promise to bring Lollipop to the OnePlus One within 90 days of its official launch. This time around, Carl Pei and the team seem to be taking a cautious approach, which can’t hurt the young company, by Pei’s own admission.

Android Marshmallow coming to OnePlus One and OnePlus 2 in Q1 2016

OnePlus_One_Official_02

OnePlus is set to roll out out Android Marshmallow updates to the OnePlus 2 and the One in the first quarter of 2016. A OnePlus staffer announced the company’s software update plans today through the official OnePlus forum.

The first one among the lot to get Android Marshmallow’s sweetness will be the OnePlus One since it runs CyanogenMod and the custom ROM maker has already started working on the next software update. OnePlus’s own Oxygen ROM will get updated a bit later, which means that the OnePlus Two and some OnePlus One devices (running the Oxygen OS) will be the next in line to get the software update.

The new update will use standard Marshmallow API for the fingerprint sensor, the OnePlus post revealed.

“The OnePlus 2 will also be updated in Q1, and the update will include the new standard Marshmallow API for the fingerprint sensor. We’ve heard requests for us creating an API for the current fingerprint implementation in OxygenOS, but have decided against this since we’re switching over to the standard Android M implementation soon,” it read.

While the company has refrained from saying anything about the timeframe of Android 6 updates, we are guessing the OnePlus X may have to wait till the second quarter of the next year for it.
