OnePlus 2 delayed 2-3 weeks in North America

Unfortunately, the OnePlus 2 hasn’t gotten off to the start I’m sure the company were intending and despite attracting a huge number of people to the reservation list, shipments of the OnePlus 2 in North America are to be delayed by 2-3 weeks.

The big launch day is tomorrow, August 11th, and those with invites will be itching to press that order button and part with their hard-earned cash for the OnePlus 2. However, the phone won’t ship straight away to the US or Canada and will experience a substantial delay. Shipments to the rest of the world appear to be unaffected.

The production of the OnePlus 2 is in full swing and we’re excited to get the OnePlus 2 in your hands. However we do want to tell our users in North America that due to production schedules, shipping to the States and Canada will commence 2-3 weeks after shipments to Europe.

The reasons are unknown – perhaps it was to give OnePlus a bit more time to get the logistics side ironed out in the US, but breaking this news one day before sales begins does seem rather drastic.

But don’t worry, this won’t affect our selling date. You can still use your invite codes to purchase the OnePlus 2 starting August 11.

How can OnePlus expect users to buy a phone they’ve never seen, using an invite, to be shipped at an unknown date?

OnePlus 2 will be delayed 2-3 weeks for would-be North American buyers

oneplus 2 unboxing initial setup aa (32 of 32)

With devices like the ZTE Axon and Motorola Moto X Style, OnePlus’ competition in the “flagship specs, killer price” segment is fiercer than ever before. Despite this, things are actually looking really good for the flagship killer so far.

Not only did the OP2 manage to sell 30k units in China (where invites aren’t required) in just slightly over a minute, they also currently have about two million people waiting in line for a chance to buy a handset. Of course, all this demand won’t be easy to keep up with, and that’s why OnePlus has now announced that it will be delaying shipment to North American consumers.

Those with the first batch of invite codes were supposed to be able to start ordering phones tomorrow, August 11th. While the codes will still work and you’ll still be able to buy, OnePlus says you can expect shipping to the US and Canada to “commence 2-3 weeks after shipments to Europe”. Providing European shipments start right away, that means you’re probably looking at about a half to a full month before the OP2 hits.

For those that planned on buying a OP2 right away with an invite, does this at all change your plans? Or are you more than willing to wait a bit longer for what looks to be one of the best affordable smartphones on the market?

OnePlus 2 gets delayed by several weeks in North America

oneplus_2_styleswap_covers_varietyUnfortunately for anyone interested in purchasing a OnePlus 2 in the US or Canada, it looks like the first shipments of the device will be delays by 2 to 3 weeks after they begin shipping in Europe. Production schedules will prevent the device from being ready for shipment any earlier.

On the bright side, this shipping delay won’t affect being able to actually purchase a device. You can still use an invite to buy a OnePlus 2 on August 11th, you’ll just have to wait a little longer than the rest of the world until you actually get it in hand.

Does this have any affect on if you were going to buy a OnePlus 2?

We have the OnePlus 2: ask us anything!

oneplus 2 unboxing initial setup aa (22 of 32)

OnePlus unveiled its new flagship smartphone just a few weeks ago, and so far, it’s proven to be quite the device. The OnePlus 2 features some of the best specifications and build quality on the market, starting at the low price of just $329. Even though there’s been tons of content on the OnePlus 2 so far, we’re sure you have some questions.

Will this phone fulfill your needs? Is there a catch? Featuring a super quick fingerprint scanner, a handy alert slider on the left side, and a new USB Type-C port, it seems as though the OnePlus 2 is working hard to adopt as many new technologies as it can. With that said, quite a few features are missing from the device, which has become a major point of contention among fans of the handset.

Unboxing

oneplus 2 unboxing initial setup aa (9 of 32)

While the packaging still features the signature red color that OnePlus uses, it is not quite as unique as the box was for the OnePlus One. Opening the top reveals the OnePlus 2 in all its glory, and what is nice to see is that the plastic cover that is around the phone marks out the position of the various buttons and ports around the display, such as the volume rocker, the power button, and the headphone jack, with the new additions to this phone being the alert slider and the fingerprint scanner up front, that is integrated into the home button below the display.

oneplus 2 unboxing initial setup aa (6 of 32)

The box includes the different documentation that we usually see, such as the Quick Start guide, the user manual, and the warranty information. Another unique feature of the OnePlus 2 is the USB Type-C port, making it one of the first smartphones to adopt it, and in the box is the AC adapter and the cable that is compatible with this new standard. The flat cable is similar to what was seen with its predecessor, and helps keep things tangle free, with of course, the fact that the port is now different. You do only get the bare essentials in the box, but even that manages to be unique with the introduction of the reversible USB Type-C cable.

First impressions

oneplus 2 unboxing initial setup aa (15 of 32)

Taking the OnePlus 2 out of its plastic cover, the first thing you’ll notice is how substantial the phone feels in your hand. Even if it isn’t particularly heavy, the metal frame makes the device feel very solid, and not something you would generally expect from a smartphone available at its affordable price point. While retaining a lot of the design elements of the original, a few noticeable changes is the lowering of the camera optics on the back, as well as the inclusion of a home button up front, that houses the fingerprint sensor. On the left side is the new alert slider, that lets you silence the phone, or set it to allow only priority notifications, quickly and easily. On the other side is the volume rocker found above the power button, placed ideally to be within comfortable reach.

oneplus 2 unboxing initial setup aa (18 of 32)

This review unit is of the sandstone black variety, but the back cover is now very easy to remove and doesn’t require any additional tools, making it very simple to switch out the back cover for the various other color and material options that OnePlus has available under its StyleSwap covers series. We got to get a look at the different cover options during our first hands-on with the device, which you can check out here.

oneplus 2 unboxing initial setup aa (23 of 32)

Powering on the device gives you the first introduction to the latest version of the Oxygen OS, based on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. Of course, the presence of the Oxygen OS is because of the falling out between OnePlus and CyanogenMod, and we will find out during the comprehensive review whether this OS version proves to be a worthy replacement. You may have noticed at the top right corner the presence of two SIM card icons, indicating that the OnePlus 2 comes with dual-SIM capabilities.

oneplus 2 unboxing initial setup aa (26 of 32)

Jumping into the setup, it’s great to see the device allow you to pick and choose which features you want to use. You have the option to pick between hardware or software navigation buttons, with our choice being the former, allowing us to take advantage of the full real estate that this 5.5-inch display has to offer. You can also pick a choose between the various gestures you want activated, which the options available including double to wake, drawing an O to launch the camera, drawing a V to toggle the flashlight, and drawing two vertical lines to control your music.

oneplus 2 unboxing initial setup aa (24 of 32)

Testing the gestures showed everything to work quickly and easily. The final choice available to users out of the box is with regards to the default keyboard, with the options including Swiftkey or the Google keyboard. You can also enable Shelf during this setup process, which is essentially two widgets, with one housing the most frequently used apps, and the other listing your favorite contacts.

So there you have it for this quick look at the unboxing of the OnePlus 2! Stay tuned with Android Authority for more great OnePlus 2 coverage, including the in-depth review, a camera shootout, and a few comparisons to see whether this latest “flagship killer” from OnePlus manages to stand up to its claim.

OnePlus 2 to be available in limited stock at Colette’s in Paris on August 11

oneplus_2_launch_never_settle

OnePlus has announced that it will be at Colette’s in Paris selling limited stock of the OnePlus 2 on Tuesday, August 11. They will be there from 11am CEST (GMT +1) until the OnePlus 2 is sold out.

OnePlus said:

Design has always been important to us — it’s one of the reasons OnePlus was founded, to create beautifully crafted devices. That’s why colette, with a reputation made from their idiosyncratic shop windows and impeccable fashion curation, felt like the perfect temporary home for the OnePlus 2.

Keep in mind that there will be a very limited number of stock available, so if you want a OnePlus 2, you’ll have to be quick on your feet. Additionally, that same day, August 11, is when OnePlus will begin sending out invites for consumers in Europe and the United States to begin ordering the device.

OnePlus announced the OnePlus 2 a little over a week ago, seeing over 2 million reservations for the device. The OnePlus has already seen a lot of popularity in China, selling 30,000 devices in a little over a minute. It will no doubt do well in other markets, despite the underlying controversy.

Be sure to hit the source link below for an address to Colette’s on Tuesday.

How to get your hands on the OnePlus 2 without an invite

The OnePlus 2 is bringing much fanfare, even after the world found out the “Flagship Killer” would not be getting NFC. According to reports, the device sold 30,000 units in 64 seconds, in China. Which is absolutely phenomenal. Unfortunately, for the rest of the world the device is still hidden behind the infamous invite system.

At the time of this article, the reservation list is approaching the 3 million mark, at around 2.8 million invitations on the waiting list. Fortunately, if you want to jump the line, you can do so. It’s just not through OnePlus. You can grab the OnePlus 2 from the folks over at OppoMart for $459.

OppoMart is only offering the 64GB black model, and is priced at $70 over the retail of the device. If you are clamoring to get your hands on the flagship killer, the $70 really isn’t that much extra to spend to get the device. Plus, you won’t have to worry about dealing with that aforementioned invite system.

There is another catch in addition to the extra money for the device. The OnePlus 2 being sold through OppoMart is the Chinese version, which is a bit different than the one that you would get through the invite system for users in the US. The specs of the device are exactly the same, however, you will still want to double check to make sure that your network is compatible with this version of the OP2.

If you don’t care about paying an extra $70 plus shipping, and want to get your hands on the OP2 ahead of the release, head over to OppoMart and get your order in. We aren’t expecting this supply to last forever, considering the basis behind the invite system to begin with.

Just as a side note, GearBest is also offering both the 16GB and 64GB variants of the OnePlus 2 without an invite. The only catch here is that your order won’t ship until after September 7th. So pick and choose between GearBest and OppoMart, if you want to jump on board with the OnePlus 2 without going through the invite system.

Be sure to let us know whether you bit the bullet and pulled the trigger on the Chinese variant of the 2015 Flagship killer, the OnePlus 2.

2 million OnePlus 2 reservations were registered in its first week, according to OnePlus

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();

In case you needed reminding just how popular OnePlus‘ new flagship is, they’ve gone to the trouble of doing it for us. According to OnePlus, 2 million OnePlus 2 reservations have been registered on their invite website which puts you in line to get a OnePlus 2 invite – and all within one week of the device being announced. OnePlus has obviously been doing a good job of wooing its fans, indicated not only by the number of registered invites, but the grassroots events in major cities around the world, like New York, that have seen huge numbers of people flock just to see the device.

That, of course, isn’t to say that 2 million OnePlus 2 handsets are going to be sold – there’s probably a few double ups and ‘just interested’ registrations in there – but it’s still impressive nonetheless. The real question is how many invites OnePlus is actually going to process since its previous device, the OnePlus One, has only sold 1.5 million devices in total – and that invite system was much more restrictive than the one we have now. If you’re keen to join the back of the line, you can still register for an invite here on the OnePlus website.

OnePlus 2 on sale through OppoMart for $459, no invite required

oneplus 2 launch aa (40 of 93)

Interested in the OnePlus 2 but not so keen on the idea of dealing with the company’s invite system? Just like last year, OppoMart is offering an alternative solution to waiting in virtual line, but just like with the OPO — there’s a few catches involved.

First is the pricing. OppoMart currently only lists the OP2 black 64GB model, priced at $459, a premium of about $70 over what you’d pay if you got the phone directly from OnePlus. Second, this is the Chinese version of the phone, which will differ slightly in terms of software and hardware. While the same overall specs and Oxygen OS-based software will apply, there will be regional changes, and you’ll want to verify that the phone will play nicely with your particular carrier/region.

OppoMart says the device will work on the following bands: GSM: 850/900/1800/1900MHz , WCDMA: Bands: 850/900/1900/2100MHz, and LTE FDD: Bands: 2100/1800/2600MHz. Obviously you’ll want to double check for support before biting the bullet.

Finally, it must also be said that OppoMart has a somewhat mixed reputation. Please keep this in mind before deciding whether or not to pick up the device through OppoMart. It is also unclear what kind of warranty you’ll get here, especially since you’re buying a Chinese model and essentially importing it to a different region. That means if something goes wrong with the phone, you may be left unprotected.
