Nexus 5 (2015) renders appear courtesy of uSwitch and onleaks

One of the most highly anticipated, and rumored, phones of 2015 may be getting closer and closer to fruition. Over the last month or so, we’ve been seeing more and more information coming out about a new Nexus 5. However, there haven’t been many images to follow the rumors, but even that has been changing as of late.

Nexus 5 2015 Render 3

While most of us were asleep, @onleaks, tweeted out some renders from uSwitch, which show off what could be the new design. The two big additions to take note of are the fingerprint scanner, and the USB Type-C charger. Currently, the only phone that has been released while sporting USB Type-C is the OnePlus 2. If LG’s Nexus 5 2015 comes with the updated charging capabilities, it would be awesome, and would hopefully kickstart other manufacturers to follow suit.

As for the rest of the Nexus 5 2015, the device includes a 5.2-inch display with two front facing speakers. Of course, this could be like the Moto X 2014, where one’s a speaker and the other is just the earpiece, but let’s hope for some dual-speakers on this front. One more thing to take note of is the protruding Camera. I’ve never been a fan of having a camera bump, but these renders don’t make it look too terrible.

Nexus 5 2015 Render 2

Just as a reminder, these are just renders, and aren’t actual images of the device. However, from uSwitch, these renders are based from the “detailed factory schematics provided to accessory-makers.” Nonetheless, I’m getting more and more excited for the impending release of this device.

The Nexus 5 is probably my #1 favorite device, with exception to the camera, so an updated version featuring a fingerprint scanner and updated specs, would be an insta-buy for me. Drop us a line and let us know what you think about the renders, and what seems to be the impending release of the Nexus 5 2015.

The LG Nexus will probably look something like this

lg-logo-mwc-2015-s

The other day, @OnLeaks lived up to his name and dished out several details about the upcoming Nexus handsets from LG and Huawei. Today, @OnLeaks has help to bring us a selection of renders, showing us what the next LG Nexus smartphone should look like.

The renders are based on factory schematic information provided to third party accessory-makers, so the dimensions are quite likely to be accurate, although the final look could well vary a bit, especially when it comes to build materials.

On the back, we can see the fingerprint scanner that has been rumored numerous times in the past. LG’s signature rear volume controls seem to have given way in order to include the scanner, which sits just underneath the protruding camera module.

The camera comes with an LED flash and also what appears to be a laser auto focus module. We can also spot the reversible USB Type-C socket at the bottom of the smartphone.

Other rumors have pointed to a couple of front facing speakers, which we can also make out on the front of the render. The size of the smartphone also apparently backs up claims that the LG Nexus will feature 5.2-inch display. The schematic states that the phone will measure 146.9 x 72.8 x 8mm, with the protruding camera extending the depth to 9.8mm.

Interestingly, there’s no sign of LG’s signature curved display with this handset, so the company won’t be bringing all of its proprietary technology to its next Nexus smartphone.

We will have to see if a similar render for the rumored Huawei Nexus shows up as well. Check out the video below for a full view of the render.

New renders show LG’s Nexus 5 (2015 edition) sporting a 5.2-inch display, rear fingerprint scanner and USB Type-C

Nexus_5_LG_Logo_TA

After yesterday’s official unveiling of the Galaxy Note 5 and S6 Edge+ handsets at the Unpacked event, you would be forgiven for not wanting to read about another Samsung product for a while. Luckily, we have some news (and renders) about LG’s upcoming Nexus 5 (2015 edition) handset that should give some welcome respite.

LG_Nexus_2015 (2)

The serial leaker, @OnLeaks and (sponsor?) @uSwitchTech, have published some renders that are purported of LG’s next Nexus device. The renders are apparently based on the detailed schematics that are provided to accessory-makers to ensure that third-party accessories fit the handset when it’s released.

According to the renders, the LG Nexus 5 (2015 edition) will sport a fingerprint scanner on the rear (to make use of Android M’s native support for fingerprint scanners), a protruding camera bump as well as a 5.2-inch display, as previously leaked.

LG_Nexus_2015 (1)

There appears to be dual front-facing speakers, as well as a USB Type-C charging port. The Nexus 5 (2015 edition) will allegedly have dimensions of 146.9 x 72.9 x 8mm, although it is 9.8mm at its thickest point around the camera bump. It’s uncertain whether the handset will feature a full metal construction, or just a metal frame and a polycarbonate rear panel. As for when the LG Nexus 5 (2015 edition) will be announced, we are probably looking at the traditional October/November period, when Android M is also set to be launched. Check out the rest of the renders in the gallery below.

Dimensions of the Huawei Nexus and LG Nexus leak out, suggest interesting specs

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();

We’re eagerly waiting to see whether Google is going to release any Nexus smartphones this year, and the evidence is mounting that it will indeed launch two devices this year – one made by Huawei, the other by LG. Thanks to @onleaks, we now have alleged dimensions of the Huawei Nexus and LG Nexus, along with a list of suggested specs. According to the leak the Huawei Nexus will be 159.4×78.3×6.6/8.5mm whereas the LG Nexus is going to be 146.9×72.9×8/9.8mm – we’re assuming the 6.6/8.5mm and the 8/9.8mm are the thicknesses of the device at the edge and at the middle of the device.

Alone, those dimensions don’t mean a whole lot, so let’s compare these new Nexus dimensions to the devices that they’ll be replacing: the Motorola Nexus 6 and LG Nexus 5. The Nexus 6 measured 159.3 x 83 x 10.1 mm and the Nexus 5 137.9 x 69.2 x 8.6 mm. As you can see, the Huawei Nexus is going to be a very similar size to the Nexus 6, despite having a 5.7-inch display as opposed to a 5.96-inch one. If these dimensions are true, the new LG Nexus 5 is going to be around 10mm taller than the original Nexus 5, which isn’t insignificant – though previous leaks of the LG Nexus do agree that it quite a stocky device.

Dimensions aren’t all that these leaks had to offer: @onleaks suggests that both devices are going to have front-facing speakers, a fingerprint scanner on the back and a USB Type-C port right where we like it. That’s a hell of a package, and we can’t wait to see if this all true sometime in October or November.

New LG Nexus “likely” to have metal body, report says

As great as the Nexus 6 is, it wasn’t quite the device everyone wanted or expected from Google. For most, the 6-inch screen was just too big but according to a new report from @onleaks, the next Nexus device, manufactured by Nexus, could be 5.2-inches and have a metal body.

We’ve seen Samsung make the move away from plastic and budget-looking materials for their flagship devices, and we could see Google make the same leap with the new Nexus.

Not only this, but it could also have front-facing speakers, similar to the Nexus 6, a fingerprint sensor on the back, and also adopt the new USB Type-C connector like the OnePlus 2.

The new Nexus would be longer when compared to the Nexus 5, with a height of 146.9mm, which is probably due to the front-facing speakers on the top and bottom of the device.

As for the bigger Nexus, it’ll have a 5.7-inch display, again according to a report, as well as all the other previously mentioned features found on the smaller model.

Pricing and release date is still unclear.

Leak: New details emerge on upcoming Nexus devices from LG and Huawei

Nexus_5_Nexus_Logo_TA

It’s never too early for Nexus leaks, am I right? While we’ve seen the odd leak in recent times showing off possible specifications and rear panels, today we have not one, but two leaks about both the Nexus handsets that are allegedly being developed by LG and Huawei.

According to serial leaker @OnLeaks, the Nexus handset being developed by LG will likely sport a metal body as well as the following specifications:

  • 5.2-Inch display
  • Front-facing speakers
  • Fingerprint sensor on the rear
  • USB Type-C
  • Dimensions: 146.9 x 72.9 x 8/9.8mm

The Huawei developed Nexus will apparently also have a metal body, along with the following specifications:

  • 5.7-Inch display
  • Front-facing speakers
  • Fingerprint sensor on the rear
  • USB Type-C
  • Dimensions: 159.4 x 78.3 x 6.6/8.5mm

As you can see, both handsets feature a fingerprint sensor on the rear panel, front-facing speakers and USB Type-C. It’s likely that this interpretation of the USB Type-C standard will include both USB 3.1 data transfer and quick charging, unlike the stripped down version that is present in the OnePlus 2.

Besides today’s leaks, it’s rumoured that the Huawei Nexus could be the first smartphone to offer global LTE support. It’s also rumoured to use the Snapdragon 810 processor (not the 820) while the LG Nexus could use the Snapdragon 808.

While it’s interesting to see what LG and Huawei are planning with their respective Nexus handsets, it should be noted that anything can change in the coming months, thus the proverbial pinch of salt should be taken with today’s leaks. What would you like to see in the next Nexus device(s)? Let us know in the comments below.

Huawei’s Nexus smartphone may offer global LTE support

huawei_logo_june2015_event_TA

While Google’s Nexus smartphones usually come equipped with top-of-the-line hardware, their popularity can be largely attributed to the pure Android experience that they offer. But this time around, Huawei is going to give you one more reason to get excited about the upcoming Google flagship – it could be compatible with LTE bands worldwide.

According to BGR India, the Huawei-made Nexus will feature a single PCB for all bands, making it the world’s first Global LTE capable smartphone. Usually a country either has FD-LTE or TD-LTE frequency bands, therefore, smartphone companies manufacture country-specific handsets. Those travelling from one country to another often face network issues if their handset is not compatible with the frequency bands of the new country.

“In order to save costs, manufacturers instead have different variants for different regions. However this is something only Google would do,” a Huawei source was quoted as saying.

It is not clear whether Huawei is using Qualcomm’s RF360 technology that promises to deliver one global LTE solution for bands of multiple frequencies.

Earlier, we had reported a leaked video that showed the design and specifications of Huawei’s upcoming Nexus smartphone. According to rumours, the Huawei Nexus will come with a 5.7-inch QHD display, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 processor, 13.1-megapixel rear camera with laser focus, 4GB of RAM and NFC support. Needless to say, it will run Android M out-of-the-box.

Details on the next Nexuses leaked

nexus-6-first-impressions-13-of-21

New news on the next Nexuses everybody. @OnLeaks has just shared a bunch of details about the anticipated Nexus handsets from LG and Huawei.

Starting with the Huawei model, this appears to be the next super-sized handset in the Nexus line-up, with a 5.7-inch display and measurements coming in at 159.4 x 87.3 x 6.6/8.5mm. The smartphone will apparently feature a metal body, front facing speakers, a fingerprint scanner on the back in typical Huawei fashion and a USB Type-C port.

The rumored LG Nexus is a more moderate size at 5.2-inches, which matches up with previous rumors about a Nexus 5 successor. The LG Nexus is also likely to feature a metal body, along with front facing speakers, a fingerprint scanner on the back and a USB Type-C port. The phone will measure 146.9 x 72.9 x 8/9.8mm. The shared hardware extras between the Huawei and LG handsets is intriguing, but Google is likely keen to showcase the latest Android M features too, which includes native support for fingerprint authentication.

However, all of these extra features raise the question of price once again. The Motorola Nexus 6 was quite a bit more expensive than its predecessors, which didn’t go down too well with some potential customers, and these two Nexus devices sound like they could end up in a similar price bracket.

Previous rumors also point to a QHD display and Snapdragon 810 or 820 chipset for the Huawei handset, rather than the company’s own Kirin chipset. The LG version is rumored to come with a Snapdragon 808, like the G4, and a reasonable 2,700mAh battery.

What do you think about packing these high-end features in a Nexus phone? Are you concerned about the potential price tags?

‘Faster, sleeker and simpler’ Hangouts arrives on Android

Android Security Hole Found By Researcher

Google released its Hangouts 4.0 for the Android platform on Monday. First and foremost, the app now has been reskinned with material design. It also features a simplified compose button as well as a streamlined contacts list and file attachment function. What’s more, the company has reportedly has even gotten the app to consume less power thanks to improved messaging speeds and “obsessively fixing bugs.” They’re basically the same set of UI and performance tweaks that we saw at the end of June when the iOS version updated to the new material design version.
