Android 4.4.3 OTA rollout started for Nexus devices, factory images also available

Nexus 7 KitKat____

Long awaited, or better said rumored, Android 4.4.3 has started rolling out on LG Nexus devices after reaching Sprint’s Nexus 5 in April.

First in line is Asus Nexus 7 (2013) which is now receiving Andoid 4.4.3 build KTU84L. This update is just a bit shy of 74MB, so have that in mind. Other Nexus devices should follow in the coming days. Have in mind though that not everyone will get the update in the coming days, this rollout (like usual) will come in waves to owner of certain Nexus devices and it might take a while ’till it reaches your device. The update itself brings a lot of bug fixes and a refreshed Phone app.

Android 4.4.3 factory images are also available for certain Nexus devices, you can get them here.

LG’s G3 is surprisingly repairable for a smartphone

LG’s new G3 has some impressive internals, but just how impressive can’t be seen until you take the thing apart. That’s just what the folks at UBreakIFix did: they got their collective hands on a newly released Korean G3 and couldn’t seem to help themselves. Turns out, the G3 is incredibly easy to take apart (and more importantly, repair) as long as you’ve got a steady hand and just a little gumption. By their count, all that holds LG’s finest flagship together are 14 screws that are revealed once you pry a bit of plastic casing off. The rest of the components are fastened to a single large board instead of multiple like in the G2, which UBreakIFix’s Justin Wetherill says makes the prospect of fixing a busted G3 less of a headache. They’re still doing a deeper dive on what makes this smartphone tick, but for now, here’s a peek into its tightly packed innards.

LG has a 6″ Quad HD phone display up its sleeve

lg g3 display____

LG announced its new flagship LG G3 just 2 days ago, a device sporting a beautiful 5.5″ QHD display 1440×2560 in resolution (cca 534ppi), marking the companies first phone with a QHD display. That apparently isn’t enough for them.

Head of LG for Display technology announced in an interview that 600 and 700ppi displays are within reach. He also said that it would take LG’s competition significant resources to catch them up, considering this would place them far ahead. LG will showcase its 6″ Quad HD display at the SID 2014 expo in San Francisco, a display whose pixel density will be around 491, which would still place them on top, considering it’s above any 1080p display on the market.

SID 2014 will take place in San Francisco June 1-6. If you’re a pixel junkie or you just like to see beautiful panels reach the market you’ll definitely appreciate this.

LG says Flex 2, Vu 4 due later this year

LG-flexible-display

For those looking for the successor of the LG G Flex and LG Vu 3, this one’s for you. LG plans on releasing the successors to these phones sometime in the second half of 2014. The company held a press event in Seoul, right after the LG G3 announcement, explaining the company’s plans to release the G Flex 2 and the Vu 4 later this year.

Though the G Flex isn’t the most popular device out there, we can’t help but get excited for what LG has in store for us. LG have already pushed the boundaries as to what smartphones are capable of, especially with new screen technology. The G Flex has completely blown Samsung’s Galaxy Round out of the water when it comes to curved smartphones, so we’ll have to see what improvements bring later this year.

For those who are unfamiliar with the Vu series, don’t beat yourselves up. The Vu 3 was mostly contained to the Korean market, so we likely won’t see a US release for the Vu 4. The Vu line has struggled to keep up with the phablets of today, mostly due to its 4:3 display ratio.

We aren’t surprised that LG is releasing a follow up to these two phones, but it never hurts to have a bit of confirmation here and there. We’ll have more news for you as more information surfaces on these devices. What do you think the G Flex 2 and Vu 4 will bring? We’d love to hear your opinions!

LG G Flex 2 and Vu 4 confirmed for second half of 2014

LG G Flex 2The LG G3 wasn’t the only thing that LG announced today. While announcement events for the LG G3 took centre stage around the world, LG held a press conference in its native country of Korea to answer a few questions, one of which was when we would be seeing the LG G Flex 2. According to previous rumours, the follow-up to the LG G Flex would be coming in early 2015, however it was announced at today’s conference that the LG G Flex 2 and the Vu 4 would be released in the latter half of 2014.

While we weren’t expecting an announcement like that so soon, LG was predictably coy about leaking any details about the two devices. The original LG G Flex was one of the first devices to make use of flexible display technology, allowing it to have a curved screen. That wasn’t it’s only party trick however as it also incorporated some clever self-healing technology, something that the LG G Flex 2 is allegedly going to one-up with something even more unique. As for predictions for the Vu 4, there’s not much to go on, but it will likely continue along the lines of its predecessor with a 4:3 ratio display.

What do you think about the LG G Flex 2 and Vu 4 coming at the end of this year? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

LG G3 Will Have Lasers, Knock Codes, And A Big Beautiful Screen

LG G3 Front Face

The LG G3 event took off in London today and for the first time in a long time I was actually excited to watch it. As we all know LG has been leaking details about the LG G3 (for about 3 weeks now) and they still managed to surprise me with their new flagship device.  Let me tell you why.

LG G3 Screen Size

DISPLAY:

I am a sucker for a pretty screen and boy does the LG G3 have a pretty face. The LG G3 is using LG’s Quad Core HD IPS display which gives you a resolution of 2560×1440 along with 538 ppi.  The display measures 5.5 inches and takes up 76% of the front face. That’s right 76%. That means less bezel and more screen for you to drool over. The age of QHD is coming and I think LG maybe winning.

LG G3 Laser Autofocus

LASERS:

Ok not real lasers that will allow you to destroy every iPhone in sight but a Laser that will allow you to Autofocus almost instantly. The LG G3 has been upgraded with Laser Autofocus which allows for faster automatic focusing on your subject. To give you a specific number, the Laser Autofocus focuses in 0.276 milliseconds. To put that in perspective for you, the human eye takes an average of 0.300-0.400 milliseconds to blink, that basically means the Laser Auto focus is pretty damn fast.

LG G3 Knock Code

Knock Codes:

If you have or have read up on the LG G2 then you know of the knock knock feature. You double tap on the screen and it automatically turns on, simple and useful. This time around LG decided to build on that feature by making it a lock screen, thats right, now you can knock to unlock. The feature will allow you to create your own unique knock code (series of taps) that will unlock your device and take you straight to your homescreen. According to LG this Knock Code lock method will give you more than 80,000 possible combinations.

Aside from the hardware I mentioned above LG the G3 will also have a beefy Quad-Core 2.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 2GB of RAM (Sucks right?), 2.1 Megapixel front facing camera, 13 Megapixel rear camera, 3000 mAh battery and Micro SD card support. The LG G3 will also launch with Android 4.4 KitKat. So what do you think? Will you be going after the LG G3 this year? Let me know in the comments below.
